The commies invaded my country and indoctrinated the people along with ruled w/ an iron fist for more than 40 years. Now the current generation of kids are just 'red cows' blindly obey their jungle laws; to the point that they had no effin clues that they are being oppressed. They all had 1 phrase that the commies love to hear "who cares about politics" That is a very sad and painful thing to see/hear from kids to adults in any cultures. Parents, I beg you to get involve with your kids education and be aware of the bs the school districts put on your kids, our future generations. We have to stand up and push back. The trend is going against us and will be worst if we don't push back.

There are worthwhile reads! Parents need to first learn about them and then introduce them to their children. Some "hidden gems" that are not likely to be on the shelf of your local public library that I highly recommend: Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men by Bob Schultz. Excellent to read aloud to your 8-12 year old boys, but, in truth, the entire family would enjoy and benefit from this book! Others by the same author include Practical Wisdom for Becoming a Man and Practical Happiness: A Young Man's Guide to a Contented Life. Boys of Grit Who Changed the World and Boys of Grit Who Became Men of Honour by Archer Wallace. Biographical sketches of real people who overcame difficult circumstances to do great things. Christian Heroes Then & Now series by Janet and Geoff Benge. Eric Liddell, Nate Saint, George Muller, Corrie ten Boom, Gladys Aylward, and Amy Carmichael are people to which you must introduce your children. This series is a good place to start!

What's unsettling about a lot of these political books is how much they heavily sugarcoat the stories and make them look overly friendly, good and innocent. It's creepy, like the utopian intro to a movie setting that's too perfect, and reveals it's actually a dystopian horror nightmare. What are these people doing to kids who then will be shocked when they discover the atrocities governments commit? The violence? This is scary. We already have a youth independence crisis with millions of people unable to cope with the real world. And people who aren't exposed to policing in the US and don't realize how authoritarian and aggressive it is, until it is too late. When will adults learn how devastating childhood sheltering is? When it's too late?

Some of the books aimed at children and purchased by schools and school libraries heavily manipulate the facts and even outright lie to kids. Of particular note are some of the current crop of gender ideology books being purchased by schools. Even the better books sugar coat facts or sometimes present opinions as facts. Schools seem to be all about "social justice" nowadays, and less about teaching kids how to assess information, look at various perspectives and firm their own opinion. Opinions are too often provided to students pre-formed. I have even seen a teacher insist that her students' career exploration projects embed a social justice element. So, as a partial antidote, here is one children's picture book you can use to counter the dogma and help kids learn to think critically: Facts vs Opinions vs Robots, by Michael Rex.

wow! I don't write children's books, I write novels and I was rejected for it because my book doesn't fit the narrative in today's woke society. I was told that my book didn't have enough female characters and it wasn't inclusive enough with race. I didn't think that the same would happen to writers who write children's books. I was looking for a new book a while back and one in particular was showing up on many lists (I don't recall the name). I looked it up and it was getting rave reviews. Then I started noticing all the "diversity" mentions. Turns out this book does not have a single male character, but was praised for its insight on the future and its diversity.

To make a change, start requesting the books at the local public libraries. If you make the requests they often get shipped from libraries that carry them. They in turn will order more copies to meet demand. You can also ask the libraries why they are not carrying a book series you want or even a book about a person you want to read about. Libraries want support and you don't get supported if you don't carry things people want.

Up until about the 1850s, in the U.S. and in Britain, local lending libraries were PRIVATE subscription or other philanthropic enterprises. (Merchant and "mechanics'" libraries were commercial enterprises. There were also "lyceums", "athenaeums", "literary & philosophical societies" [also known as "lit & phils"], "mechanics' institutes", etc..) This was also the same time that most American states created their "public school" systems, and took control of American children's education away from their parents. We need a separation of general education (and art and culture) from state for the same moral and practical reasons we have a separation of church and state. Government is an instrument of FORCE, it is not an appropriate arbiter of IDEAS (particularly regarding the True, the Good, and the Beautiful).

This. If no one is asking for certain books no one is ordering them. But MAINLY if no one is checking the books out that are ordered you have wasted valuable collection development money. If you order ten type a books and ten type b books and check out usage statistics and type a books were checked out 3 times per book and type b were checked out 50 times per book you are going to order mainly type b books the next year. It’s simply good business. A good library has both sides of every issue and if they don’t they’ll happily order whatever you’d like. But if no one is coming in to check out type b books and they sit on the shelf taking up space they’re going to get weeded out and sold at the book sale to make room for stuff that people are coming in for.

They are NEVER available. When asked why... all I get is a shrug of the shoulders. The ACTUAL answer is, it is a book from a conservative author. They KNOW it, and will NEVER buy it.

I find it particularly interesting that she highlights how motherhood is not taught much to young girls in a positive light anymore. I am young woman who works and I enjoy it for now, but if I get married in the future, I would absolutely prefer full time stay at home mothering than to be punching for higher career goals. It's great that women have a choice to work, which was not always possible, but truly only for about half a century has it been EXPECTED instead of or on top of motherhood.

That is great! It would be important to find a spouse that would value you as a wife and mother in the home and to prepare to live on one income with accordant lifestyle expectations. Bear in mind that debt from college loans often hampers a woman's ability to be at home with her children; paying such off early would really help. I was blessed to be a SAHM, but we lived frugally--my husband took the bus to help keep expenses down, for example. I would do it all over again if I could. Children need their mother's presence, nurture, and care. Good for you for thinking ahead! Encourage those around you to do the same!

No, women has always been EXPECTED to work. Who do you think were the maids, the governess, the nanny, the seamstress, the cook, the laundry washer, the scullery maids etc etc etc? Rich women were forbidden to work, even going to the kitchen will taint them, but all other women are expected to work. Even children were expected to work, so why do you ever think women were never expected to work? If you don't work for a noble, your life is even more miserable. Back then, women were expected to walk miles to draw water, to cut firewoods, to tend to fire, to cook, to clean, feed the animals and milk the cows etc etc etc. A lot of them don't go out for paying work because work at home was too much already. Also, do you think they actually take care of the kids? Maybe for the first born, but for subsequent children the eldest child would take care of the younger siblings. The rest of the world, women continue to work because the men were dead in the war. But somehow nowadays they think it's the norm for women to not work. Like, no. You are not as rich as a country you were previously, so of course you need to work. Just like the rest of the world.

A woman devoted to marriage, motherhood, and homemaking is on a completely different 'life track.' Our culture does everything that it can to remove that model from people's minds. There are young women out there that want to be a wife and mother, but often they are afraid to speak up as it is going against the grain of society. You might even help a young woman to 'deconstruct' the lies of feminism as you talk about the consequences of women's choices and their impact on family life later on. You are still young! Don't settle! Talk about these things with others boldly. Help to wake people up! As a young man of 17, you are more mature than most people your age. Marriage and family are great blessings, especially when moms and dads are fulfilling their traditional roles as God intended. @@42luke93 funny enough, my homeschooled kids actually socialized more during COVID than they did beforehand. Cuz more families started homeschooling and we had more kids to play with at the park during "school hours". Before that, our homeschool community was relatively small. Most of the neighborhood kids were in school all day and had homework after school so they didn't ever come outside to play, or if they did it wasn't until super late in the day. But my kids are done with school by noon most days, sometimes even earlier, and would run outside and play all afternoon. My two youngest are ok playing with each other for the most part, but my oldest is a social butterfly who loves having friends and the park was always empty until 4 or 5 in the afternoon which is close to dinner time. Now our homeschool group gets together at the park weekly at 1 and we even have a monthly nerf war. Because we all finish so early, that leaves plenty of time for playing with friends. :)

I have a super easy suggestion for any normal person who just wants to encourage reading in young kids. It's called buy them second hand and then check to make sure. If you get them before probably 1995 it should be fine. Anything between 1995 and probably 2005 needs to be carefully scrutinized. Anything later than that should be avoided until they're older and you've had conversations. And for the record, I'm black. I grew up on military installations and we literally didn't realize there were different races. There was no expectation that everybody be the same. All our parents wore the same uniform. That's what mattered to us. So the "refusing to acknowledge race being bad" is something somebody made up. All that mattered was whether or not you played fair.

I am a librarian and I have noticed a lot of children's books and young adult books champion liberal ideas. Usually if I want to order more conservative books I cannot go through my usual booksellers. Say what you will about Amazon, but they pretty much sell everything, liberal and conservative books. I will say the Who Was? series that they showed in this video does have a biography on Winston Churchill and on Jesus. Even though I am a conservative librarian I will say the majority of my peers do lean liberal even in a red state like mine. Teachers also tend to lean liberal (of course not always). Teachers and librarians buy a lot of books in this country.

A man I looked up to said, "That would be such a waste!" I'm happily married now. Got to birth four beautiful children. Did foster care for several years. Got to adopt three beautiful children. Many young women are pursuing demanding careers (like medicine). Likely, few realize that their best years for childbearing will be devoted to education and starting their careers. Those who delay marriage and childbearing to pursue other things may find themselves unmarried and/or childless in their 30s and beyond and experience great grief as a result. They were not mindful that that could be a consequence of their earlier choices. Young women need to be told that their ability to bear children is a precious gift that should not be taken for granted. If delayed, they may experience temporal or permanent infertility.

Two experiences in public school stand out in my mind when I think about this. In fifth grade, we wrote about what we wanted to do as adults. After a long list of potential jobs/careers, I wrote something like "if I can't do that, I'll just be a mom." My teacher made a point to emphasize that motherhood isn't less than in any way. I already knew that, and just hadn't phrased my writing well; I always planned to be a mother no matter what. Thinking back, I'm glad she spoke up about it in front of others, because while I didn't need that message, maybe someone else did. In ninth grade, my English teacher was trying to make some point (can't remember what), and said something like, "Raise your hand if you just want to be a housewife.". I proudly raised my hand, surprising the teacher, but her point still stood because I was the *only* one raising my hand. It's pretty disappointing that as a general society, we put so little emphasis on (or actively discourage/attack/disparage) the most important aspects of human life: family relationships.

I consider myself more libertarian than a conservative, but my ideologies align more closely with the right than the left. I work at a Barnes and Noble in South Florida and I think I can provide a decent amount of insight into this world. For my store which sells the most in South Florida, our customer base is more conservative and we are in the center of the city. Many people from different countries, not only Americans, are looking for books that challenge beliefs and help bolster the mind. I personally have been able to reinvigorate sales of philosophers from Marcus Aurelius to Hobbes to Marx to Ayn Rand. Letting people choose and explore ideas is true freedom. This is why I dislike the children’s area because it is only woke type books. There are no books about any conservative types, even the most popular being Reagan or Churchill. The indoctrination is heavy on that and publishers are more to blame I think.

I think Reagan was quite terrible for the country, especially in terms of the 2nd Amendment, but also because his anti-drug campaign coincided with a spike in drug usage and homicide, almost like he was saying one thing and doing another behind the scenes, like so many other politicians have done. I own and operate a lending library of exclusively English books in China. The number of English books I will not allow on my shelves is astounding. I refuse to expose children to alphabet clan talking points and themes and anything that touches on any form of racism. Sad, but it seems you have to write a 'politically aware' story to be nominated for a number of awards these days so I can no longer blindly purchase Caldecott or Newbery medal winning/nominated books. I'm also getting tired of the 'girl power' and 'we need to save the planet' stories. They're way overdone and many are simply unhinged. Children do NOT need to be exposed to any of this.

Former librarian here. I took early retirement because I'm a conservative who didn't fit in to the super liberal library system. Things to consider: 1)Libraries are funded and run by governments. Mine was funded and overseen by the county government in a super liberal north Florida county. Decisions are not made by librarians or educators, but by county commissioners and citizen committees. A small handful of county employees made decisions on what materials we got. And as a "cost saving measure," we just outsourced that decision to a third party company. Someone in New York now makes the choice as to what materials the county libraries in Florida get. 2) A few years ago, the Aspen center came out with a report on the future of libraries. (Who is the Aspen center? Are they a group of educators or librarians? Nope. I had to hunt for it, but they are a social justice group out of California. Seems they have a report and suggestion for every industry.) What they said is that the future of libraries is not books or physical materials. Libraries need to stop being book warehouses for privileged old people and everything needs to go online. How do you scare librarians into giving up their books? Show them (carefully cultivated) statistics that say no one uses libraries anymore and if they don't adapt, they'll be out of a job. (All the while moving all content online where it can be adapted to suit your narrative.) When I left, our library was purging books by the thousands to replace them with meeting rooms, online content, and programs, like LGBTQ+ bookclubs. We were told we needed to take anti-racist training and a weeks long training on helping homeless people. I don't want to be a social worker, I wanted to cultivate a love of reading and stories in kids. I was told reading wasn't supposed to be fun, it was for learning. So, I quit. As a sidenote, I was the only Republican in a library of 8 people. (Well, actually, there was another one, but he was afraid to tell anyone for fear of retaliation.) The whole time I worked there, the other people kept telling me that I wasn't a conservative, I just thought I was because I was raised conservative. I couldn't be, because I was kind, non judgmental, I talked to the employees of colour, I didn't hate gay people, and I was just so nice. I kept telling them that they had bought into the stereotype, but they refused to believe me. I can confirm that 99% of the books we purchased were completely liberal. (The YA new books were all about diversity and LGBTQ and how terrible this county is.) Even the picture books coming in were about social justice and racism and LGBTQ themes. I got to where I hated looking at our book collection. I grew up loving reading, the worlds in my head, the adventures. We've taken that away from kids. Now if your book isn't teaching an approved social value, we won't carry it. No wonder children don't enjoy reading anymore.

Today, self publishing IS what most people do: just look at YT and Tik Tok. I self published a book, because the niche market would pay 19th century prices to the authors, knowing the authors are a specific minority that wouldn't fight back. Self publishing isn't difficult, but it is a whole lot of work. Where a publishing house has dozens of individuals who handle each aspect of a book's production, the self publisher must do them all; oh, and find the capital to pay for it. The ONLY problem I had was in promoting and selling my book. If you don't have a major publisher behind you, none of the major book sellers would buy them. since I didn't havea a million dollar marketing and advertising budget, again, the book stores wouldn't buy my book. I had on a handful of multibook sales. I don't say these things to discourage you, but to prepare you. This is a lot of work; more than most folks day jobs. If you don't have the support of a loving family, you might want to consider a different option. Such as, contacting these smaller companies with your finished work, so that half of the work is already completed, and negotiate with them. My apologies, I cannot discuss my book any farther. Yes, you use a 'Vainty Press' who will have the contacts to secure a quality printing of your book, but at a much lower price. Some of them will file your copyrights, and send a copy to the Library of Congress. Yes, Lazy People will never succeed self publishing. In some niches, self publishing is far more profitable than trying to keep up with dozens of contracts from niche publishers who demand you don't get paid until they publish, then hold a contract for up to 5 years, without publishing the work, and can simply dump the work back in your lap at the end of the contract. Meanwhile, the trend your work was capitalizing on, has passed. These niche publishers do not pay enough for you to secure a manager to handle all those contracts, but they buy infinitely more Niche Content than the Big Name mainstream publishers. In a Niche Market, the consumer is paying millions every year on their interest and the Content Creators are living below the poverty line... unless they can create quickly and endlessly, and still keep up with their endless number of 'sold' but not paid, contracts, which will far outnumber their paid contracts. Or, they have a day job, and/or a separate income. The Publishing Industry, in general, is a dog eat dog world, and Lazy people don't succeed in that, either.

When I think of "kids books", I'm thinking ages 1-5, and that's what this age range seems to be, though I don't recall Stossel mentioning it. He also avoids talking about the worst propaganda kids are subjected to, and have been for thousands of years - religious nonsense. Have we become too acclimated to those lies? Between ages 5 and 10, the only things I recall reading were hated school assignments for dummies. Around age 11, I discovered others; Stephen King, Clive Barker, metal magazines like Hit Parader, Metal Edge, Kerrang!, and of course, girlie mags like penthouse. School literature got much better in middle school. I remember reading Fahrenheit 451.

Non-left-leaning small town librarian here. Please, please, please use your library. Please develop a positive relationship with your librarians. Politely request materials through interlibrary loan. Check out or request classic books. Actually using your library and getting to know your librarians will do more than attending library board meetings and angrily demanding books be removed from the shelves. Demanding the removal of materials only reinforces the negative stereotypes librarians have about people who disagree with them. Using your library and requesting the types of materials you would like to see there will have a greater positive impact on the people making the choices about what your library purchases. Being a good library patron is the way to influence your librarians. It is absolutely true that librarians are coming out of library school thoroughly steeped in critical theory. Sadly, most libraries are no longer the neutral spaces they are supposed to be. Using your library, especially interlibrary loan, can change that.

So glad you covered this. I have noticed also that LGBT books get front and center in the libraries. Plenty of new kids books seem to have something LGBTQIA+ inside, even if the book is about collecting rocks or something else just fun. Does a woke issue have to be in every kid book? It is too stressful. Kids literature has certainly changed. Also, it can sometimes be hard to find classic children's books that have been read for decades. I even had trouble finding some C.S. Lewis. We've already seen the assault on Dr. Seuss and Laura Ingalls Wilder. I think libraries should be expansive in literature choices. And some of the newer books that talk about people from the past, for instance Columbus, would downplay any significance he had in history and would make him out to be more villainous than heroic. To be fair, some older books may have tried to make everybody seem saintly, but the newer ones seem to be more vicious and only focus on the faults and sins of past heroes. We can see that in the way that Washington and Jefferson are now presented in our culture. For whatever their faults, we have a great nation because of men like them. Parents certainly have to be aware of what kids books really say.

Michael Landon's talent is desperately needed on today's TV family viewing. What can kids see today besides Sponge Bob and the Woke gay/transgender characters? How welcoming it is to see 'Little House' with its family and spiritual values! More of this type of show could keep our kids off the streets and away from gun violence.

Thank you John for bringing this to light. I thought I was the only one who noticed these trends. In fact, we stopped going to the big box stores because it’s quite obvious what was happening. The controversial topics are woven into so many new children’s stories so we are concentrating on the classics. The Tuttle Twins have been awesome to read and we will definitely check out this author and the other publishers as well.

There are awesome books out there that will hold children's interest; parents just need to guide their children to them! I highly recommend Boys of Grit Who Changed the World and Boys of Grit Who Became Men of Honour by Archer Wallace. Also, I highly recommend the series by Janet and Geoff Benge titled Christian Heroes Then & Now. Exciting, true stories in the series include biographies about Olympic track champion Eric Liddell, jungle pilot Nate Saint, and scoundrel-turned-changed man George Muller. Muller's changed life and subsequent ministry to others impacted thousands of lives; a life-changing read is his life's story! Even better, parents can read these stories aloud to their children and share the adventures!

Normally I'll tell everyone about how the Loyalists were unfairly maligned by history because they lost, but the 1619 Project is a pack of venomous exaggeration that paints all of the Revolutionaries in the same light as the worst of them. I noticed the last time I went to Barnes & Noble a few months ago how political book titles had gotten that promoted left and socialist ideologies. They were at eye level and very prominent. Conservative books that I could find were all at the bottom of shelf and turned so you had to pull it out to see the cover.

In fairness, The Who Was series does have some conservatives. We have Who Was Ronald Regan in our home library. When our kids were in public school, I couldn’t believe how all the “strong women” books were about democrats. It’s hard, but as parents, we need to be the ones looking into what our kids read and watch.

Ya know how when grandma says the N word, or when you find blatantly racist stuff from back in the day with some guy all dressed up in black face smiling like there’s nothing wrong with that and everyone just feels kinda awkward cause we know it’s not cool or ok..... in the future our kids kids are going to find stuff from our age, like kids books that are blatantly talking to kids about far too mature content and they are going to have that same feeling of “this is wrong” and that’s a good thing. Im glad we’re turning the page little bit by little bit and I hope soon we can let the kids just get back to being kids with genuinely educational content, they deserve to explore the world they will create not perpetuate the mistakes that were made before they were even born.
