America is the first country to say to its people: all of you have a right to speak. But today speech is under siege.
The former CEO of Mozilla Brendan Eich, Pax Dickinson of Business Insider, Paula Deen of the Food Network, and real estate entrepreneurs David and Jason Benham all lost jobs because of something they said.
A Classic Stossel from 2015

Exactly. I don't vote because I usually don't align with any specific party, but conservatives and leftists (or are they communists now) want the media to tell them what they want to hear. I want to hear facts and not opinions, it's hilarious hearing the people say they're the resistance to the establishment, while voting for the Amazon, Google, and Microsoft owned politicians.

It is part of history. Not just railing on communists! The Bolshevik Party was small in revolutionary Russia. They kept accusing their moderate adversaries of not being 'revolutionary' enough. They fed off of other revolutionaries. They cancelled others in the Bolshevik party. It worked! They cancelled the more popular and more powerful, and drove society into chaos and the least common denominator. They couldn't win with numbers, so they figured out a way to reduce the numbers until they were equal to other parties. Then The Boys went to work.... Stalin killed more Communist Party members than non-Communist Party members. We've seen this before, right?

@@IHateThisHandleSystem really? Ok, let me hold your hand like a little girl and explain it in simple terms 🙄 Most people don't want to give up easy money and fame over having to apologize for saying something "insensitive". It's easier to say sorry than lose that big, easy money. Other, fewer people who actually have high standards, refuse to apologize for their beliefs and are fine with losing that "big easy money" if that's what it comes down to. It *is* coercion by the ones offering the easy money, but it doesn't always work with people who hold high standards. This is a simple concept, I don't think I can explain it more simply. Good luck with your comprehension of the English language.

It seems in most cases that if you speak out and hold your ground, you can defend yourself against cancel culture. Because the reality is that it is a fringe minority that are complaining and will actually stop using the company's business in most cases. So if you can get another fringe minority or even a large group of people to complain to the company on your behalf than you can survive and even come out better on the other end.

The problem is that when the woke mob attacks, they chase everybody reasonable away, and pretty much the only group that will actually fight them, is the literal homophobic white supremacist misogynist fascists, everything that they falsely accuse anyone they disagree of being, and, much as I despise the woke mob, that monstrosity of bigotry is even worse and they are not the ones that I want to call to my aid when my whole point is to remain separate from them.

Let people speak their minds, if you disagree with it you dont have to listen and if you dont listen their audience is smaller. That is how its done in a free society, there are many things i disagree with but i have never tried to hurt anyone for disagreeing with me, i will just walk away. Personally i have nothing against gay marriage but that is me, if another person thinks another way that is up to them and has nothing to do with me.

I don't agree with Chik-fil-a's political or religious positions, but I love their products and I support the owner's right to have a political position and to follow whatever religion they choose. This is still America, for now, and the America I grew up in you could have a different view and still be a good person and respected. Maybe that is the underlying problem, the current generation wasn't brought up to know and understand the concept of respect. Respectful people can have different view points, discuss them at length, and in the end agree to disagree, if needs be, and walk away still respecting each other and the others opinion. Respect doesn't require agreement, but it does require civility.

Our societal values are ever changing. People should not be canceled for something that they did 10 years ago when it was deemed appropriate then. My parents are from central Europe and they both used the n-word and played blatantly racist games in school. Why? Because that was the word they were tought. No one took offense, since it wasn't meant to be offensive.

I think people shouldn't be "cancelled" even for doing something that some others deem inappropriate at the time. On a couple of occasions I have heard vendors or artists I was dealing with express opinions I found abhorrent, and I took my business elsewhere. That was the end of it. I didn't start any whispering campaigns against them, or even go out of my way to publicize their revolting ideologies; I left that to them.
