It’s great to see my Somali brothers doing well in Pakistan 🇵🇰. By the way it’s “Somali” not “Somalian” when referring to Somalis!

I'm so sorry to hear some people in Pakistan are calling you in a bad way... Not trying to find excuse for it but, I wish Pakistani people were more educated in this regard.... Pakistan has been a very closed country to tourism and not much travel by Pakistanis abroad themselves.... Hopefully time will help Pakistanis to be more open minded towards people who may not look the same from outside, but realize the same blood runs in our veins....

The problem isn't racism. As in Pakistanis aren't specifically racist. We just like calling names. Motay, deengy, naswar khan, daalkhor, kala, gora, phattu, dhukkun, shapar etc. These are common among every race, religion and color.

Yeah. We should not call someone kala or black, its not good but even if some people use this word to call someone, its bcz they want their attention. It's not like racism or something. (Still calling by this word is not good, they should use alaka or bhia jan as the brother said). We, the Pakistani people love and respect people of all colors. It was really such a nice conversation though. I enjoyed it. ❤❤ One more thing, that i think my brother didn't mention about co-education is , you can fully focus on your study and not put yourself in girls and boy friendship concepts. That's the beauty of Islam and Islamic University. ❤

Why are they being racist ? Many of the prophets in the Qur'an were darker skinned. Seems like a trait the British left with them.
@Hashashin_420
@Hashashin_420 Жыл бұрын
They aren't really being racist. "Kala" just means black and "Kalay" means black man. Similarly, a white man would be "Goray". Pakistanis do have a habit of referring to people by their physical characteristics. If someone is tall he would be "Lambay", short would be "chotay", fat would be "Motay". Even dark or fair-complexioned locals are referred to as kalay or goray by their friends.
@lfchd
@lfchd Жыл бұрын
@@Hashashin_420 Well that's not a particularly Islamic habit. The companions of the Prophet Muhammad came in all shapes and sizes, it wasn't known among them to refer to one another based on characteristics.
@Hashashin_420
@Hashashin_420 Жыл бұрын
@@lfchd Yup, you are right, it's mainly guys with their friends who do this but definitely not a good habit from an Islamic perspective.

@@Hashashin_420 How do you know they arent "really" being racists?? There are definately some that are racist and see blacks as inferior, so just cuz you wanna dismiss that doesn't change the reality..im black and lived in pakistan for awhile.

@ahmadjilao8847 I am assuming you didn't know much Urdu ,But once you learn Urdu. You'll realize its more of a cultural rather than racist thing and its used in a fun way rather than insulting someone. We used to call our tall friend flamingo 😂 as his legs were slim and tall, again that was too in a friendly manner.

When we say Kala, we don't mean offense. One of my brothrers is dark skinned and we all call him 'tore' i.e kaale. But we all love him and we don't mean insult when we call him kaala. It's all about culture and the place where you live. In Pakistan, if you call someone begherat that is the biggest taunt but if you say similar kind of thing to someone in a European country, it may not sound as harsh as it sounds in our country. Similarly, if you say Kala to someone in Pakistan, it is not necessarily abusive or disrespectful. In Pashtoon society, if someone is dark skinned, we call him tore, sudane, habshi, or even changare but we don't hate him the way Americans or White people use the word BLACKS. For them, Black is a group of people who are insane and uncivilized while the case is different in Pakistan. Similarly, if someone has rosy cheeks and white skin (which 95% of the Pathans generally have) they call him desi Angrez (fake british) or they call him sur makhe or even sur kw*ne but these words do not create havoc bcz they don't mean racism when they use these words.

Black is not offensive to me as an American, the Niger word is offensive because they use it to mean ignorance, and as derogatory byword. But black/negro is just descriptive, I once assumed it was specifically the racial group of the dark mixed race american inhabitants during the colonial period, but now it seems to be all dark skin people are called black no matter of ethnicity.

I grow up with a friend who was white and blonde, and most of the people in our neighbourhood didn't even know his name. They just called him "gora". 😅 Not to make excuse for people who can be ignorant at times, but "gora" and "kala" in Pakistan do not have negative connotations. They are affectionate nicknames. Personally I wouldn't use them.
