@UC6VegvgAGN-3XWPP3Kcsotg he should have just married her just a quiet down any talks of her having a stronger claim which she did. and her having a stronger claim is why he chose not to acknowledge Rhaenys as his heir when Aemon died. because then he'd openly be admitting that he stole the throne from his sister. The targaryens forgot a lot of things when they left valyria like gender blind linear birth succession and the use of magic. And in the current narrative they forgotten incest as Viserys tried to use Dany as a meal ticket, yet the whole time he was complaining that the blood of the Dragon must be kept pure.

The voyage took a route far to the southwest rather than due west from, say, the Iron Islands, so it’s also fairly possible they missed a continent between Essos/Ulthos and Westeros. I do like the concept of there being a non-human land out there somewhere.
