These pen and pencils videos are more interesting than I would have originally thought...and I'm not sure why... they're just cool...

Pencils are a pleasing artifact, I like to indulge randomly in a few nice ones, and nobody has noticed them accumulating, unlike the 4X12 Marshall cabinets that keep appearing.

If you like this Japanese pencils you will love Hagoromo chalk. When they said they would close mathematicians and physicists all around the world began to stock it. Now another person will continue the tradition. It almost produces not dust.

'Very unique'? I didn't think uniqueness had degrees. I thought it was absolute! :)

I was initially doubtful, but that eraser is impressive! My daily driver is the Blackwing 602, but I might have to look in to acquiring some of those. Great video, as always Fran!

Writes just fine upside down so don't need a space pen!

That’s a beauty! Love the way the eraser integrates so nicely. 😊

I saw a store with the Blackwing Palomino and snapped one up with my last fountain pen/ink order. I also got the new (and controversial) Lamy T52 dark lilac ink which I'm yet to try. Without a Fran video on these pencils I would have passed them by. I have other pencils, but then I have a Blackwing...

Looks a bit like a magician's wand with the white eraser... 🤔😄

I know you love astronomy and all of that stuff but, what do you mean by “Space Age”? Futuristic, new technology or retro futuristic? Sorry, but for me the Space Age is something that happened before my time and I don’t see it as something that will happen after that either.
@TorCow1234Ай бұрын
It's a descriptor that was used in the past, mostly in advertising, to describe something that's the newest and most modern by dint of it using materials or construction techniques or knowledge gained during the space race of the 1950s through the 1970s or 80s. The "Space Age Materials/Design!" thing lingered on in products advertised on TV long past the actual space age, probably disappearing around the time everything became "Y2K Compliant". So, it's mainly a tagline used by people who grew up during the actual space age or that period of time where the newness had worn off but infomercials hadn't gotten the memo yet.

My favorite pencils were the rubbery pencils we had in the 80s. What ever happened to them?
@HavlockАй бұрын
What do you mean by "rubbery pencils?" I did a cursory search query for that and the closest thing I found were triangular rubber pencil grips that slipped over the lower part of a pencil.
@scottthomas3792Ай бұрын
@@privateprivate1865 I remember seeing those back in the '80s...my cousin's children had them...I haven't seen them in forever. I don't remember what they were called, though.
@NoxonomusАй бұрын
@@Havlock search flexible pencil, they were a rubbery body instead of wood over a flexible graphite composite. You can still get them.

I hope I can get this at Office Depot. They have a lot of pens and pencils, plus markers. I also have a new Michaels near me.

Does the "[60]" have any significance? Is this just Pencil v60?

I've tried the Camel HB and it's a good pencil. It came in a set with a nice manual sharpener. I've tried a bunch of other pencils, from Blackwing to Hokusei, Tombow to Musgrave. My favorite pencil though is still the Mitsubishi 9850 HB. Checking my Amazon order history, I've ordered a fresh box of 9850s eight times over the years, most recently this past April.

Tombow makes good pencils too but their erasers are ordinary. japanese writing instruments are really my favourite.

I wish there was a hardness between HB and B. In my opinion, HB is a little too scratchy to write and B smears a bit too easily. ;-) I am a huge fan of mechanical pencils, too. My favorites are uni Kuru Toga, Zebra DelGuard and the wonderful tiny OHTO Minimo 0.5 ✍️

Wish I could join you on Patreon. I live in a foreign country (expat American) as an English teacher, which means I get paid foreign scale pay. We will soon be coming off summer break. Maybe after I start getting full paychecks again. (Got none during the break). I really appreciate your videos and if I can, integrate them into my classes. You have a pleasant voice with a neutral accent. I will not intrude without your permission.
