I live in Denmark. Gets pretty cold here in the winter. Straw keeps warmer than hay. Hay gets moist, straw doesn't as quickly 🌾

I don’t care where you live Florida Arizona or up north. Anything below 40 is cold. Well maybe not in Alaska that would be warm winter temperatures where they get -20 . There are always exceptions to the rule. Oh goody a calm non eventful feed up. I just love Candace. She is smart up and out of the way feeding spot. Dang Carl you need some chill out meds. How is Lenny doing? Good to see Boss Ringo getting around well during this cold. I hope you and the animals are not struggling to stay warm. You are right about the conditioning we and our animals experience leading up to the extreme cold . All My animals have a fluffy full winter coat by the end of October. My horse transforms into a wooly mammoth until late spring 😆. When temps are below -10° 🥶, I occasionally provide a warm feed mash to all.(tepid)

Those babies need put in enclosed barns, out of the wind and cold! If the wind is blowing in on them, they might as well be outside! Loafing sheds are just good for being out of the sun!

So crazy how much Tim and Newtons tusks grow. Love feed time ❤❤❤. Corn will warm them up nicely. I have corn out here in New Jersey for the deer cause it's 18 degrees during the day. 100% I would not survive a Texas heat of summer 😂. Just as a NJ winter would be horrible for you. We get used to the environment we live in. We adapt. Here donkeys tend to have thick thick winter coats. Much thicker than your donkeys get because their bodies are conditioned for out winter blasts.

We got 6-8 inches of snow, 2 inches of ice and the got a couple more inches on top of the ice…it’s 28 degrees right now…branches on our trees have snapped from the weight of the ice…I’ve been putting out seed, corn and nuts for the birds and squirrels…I’ve got some of the fattest squirrels lol
