They do have individual personalities, but in some ways many pigs are similar to one another. As I've seen in many sanctuary videos now, many sanctuary pigs are very friendly and affectionate, they love mud wallows and love belly scratches. And most pigs looove to eat. Many pigs follow the same friendly behavior style by walking up to people pointing their snouts up at them while grunting alot, and they rub their sides against the person's legs and give "snout kisses" (which is pressing their snouts on someone while sniffing). It's how pigs show happy friendly affection to someone they like. And, most pigs in sanctuaries do that regularly with almost every person who's kind to them, which is most in sanctuaries. Factory farm pigs very rarely do that and often frantically scurry away from any person who gets near them. And they squeal when anyone touches them. These pigs have been made way too frightened of people to be friendly and affectionate to them. People in factory farms sadly often abuse pigs and treat them dreadfully. There's a huge difference in behavior between factory farm pigs and sanctuary pigs and it almost all has to do how people treat them. Almost all pigs have this in common, and respond to love and kindness joyfully and respond to roughness and cruelty fearfully. So pigs have individual personalities from each other only to a point, and in many ways are the same as one another. Add on: when I mentioned seeing Buttercup's happy eyes while in the tub, I was referring to 5:50 to 6:00. When I posted the above paragraphs, there was still a minute left of this video I hadn't seen yet, and didn't know there was another bit with Butterçup in a pool of water. It's hard to see her eyes in this one due to the shadow from her ears, but I can still tell she's happy because of the position she's laying down in. Butterçup is one lucky happy pig

If you’re into animal welfare, (not animal rights because those people are loons that think meat should be banned) it would probably be more effective to improve animal welfare standards in your area and buy meat from those who do have better practices. I’m an animal welfare advocate and I eat local product only because I know that my research and advocacy directly impacts the lives of the food I am eating. Here in Kentucky we have the Kentucky Proud program and desperately needs more attention and I would recommend other places do the same with their products meat or otherwise. It’s a great first step into improving conditions for the animals.

@@kimmiewise1044 if you eat meat in the end you still use mama pigs like buttercup to constantly give birth to enjoy the taste of their body. If people had this mindset of "eating better meat" instead of "not eating meat at all" buttercup would've been killed like others production animals. After seeing this video, do you still wont mind buttercup getting killed for some bacon or such? Or do you want her to live a normal life? If it's the second option then why not keeping the same mindset for other piggies? Or other meat animals? Sure buying from local small farms may guarantee the animals to live less of a hell than buying from industrial farms (and unless you personally know how the farmer treats their animals, you still wont know if they do well or not) but in the end they are being used and killed, right? Buttercup for example would just be dead with this reasoning. I mean of you dont mind that then I guess it's fine, if you do then that's contradicting and maybe you should rethink your mindset? In whatever way you want I dont force you thinking vegan but just for you to make sense with your own point

@BikersBitchHD3 жыл бұрын
No the farmer is supplying a demand. WE are the monsters for giving them a reason to keep doing it. If you eat meat, dairy eggs or any animal products or secretions from their body, YOU are directly responsible for the farmers to keep doing this. ALL animals raised for Food are treated like this. AND YOU as a meat eater, vegetarian or anything other than ethical vegan are responsible. It's math. If you buy it they keep doing it. Simply really. Not Rocket Science.

Caging animals that way should be a criminal offense. It says in the Bible, even, to treat the animals you raise for even food to a good life. Life in a cage or chained is no life. Her life began when these wonderful people saved her. 💘

It doesnt matter how well you treat someone if you end up killing them and eating them...
@irishmary24903 жыл бұрын
@@sarahgabriella84 I agree with that. However, animals are being raised for food all over this world. To stuff them in cages or animal prisons to increase revenue is unconscionable. If this could be abolished, it would be a good start.

This is how all animals are treated when they exist to produce, produce, produce. It's quite horrifying what human beings are capable of in the name of profit. I'm not vegan, but I can sure see why people get upset by the wholesale immorality of the meat and dairy industries.
@tiffanymichaels24293 жыл бұрын
@@walterco7701 I'm not a vegan either. But only because I have a variety of food sensitivities and because of medical issues I'm on a highly restricted diet. So I'm unfortunately dependent on animal proteins. Otherwise I would be. But at least I live in a rural community and almost everything in the meat market is local. Knowing it comes from small family farms where the animals are at least raised humanly helps. Plus helping those farmers rather than large commercial industries that have unethical practices.
@y_fam_goeglyd3 жыл бұрын
I don't want to sound anti-American (I'm not, I promise), but US animal welfare standards compared to most if not all equally developed countries is pathetic and often disgusting. I'm not saying that the other countries have got it all right - absolutely not, there is still a way to go - but at least, for example, our pigs have more room. I actually live in "pig country" (downwind from a small pig farm about 150 yards away in a straight line, that the village, which dates back at least 1500 years, has grown around!) Nearly every pig that's being raised for pork lives in a field, has an individual shelter, like a sort of long igloo. In fact they remind me of some bomb shelters, with the vaulted ceiling. They can come and go freely, they are fed however many times is necessary, but they also have their own territory to root around in the mud which keeps them happy and occupied. If it's particularly hot weather, they'll be regularly hosed down, wetting the mud so they can roll in it and use it as sunscreen (which is what wild pigs do). They're near others and can interact with them, even play if they want. Many fields can be seen from the road, and you can be sure that if anything is amiss, someone passing by will alert the authorities. Caged hens are either banned outright or are in the process of being so (depending on the country). Most people prefer to buy free-range or "barn raised", which isn't a perfect solution but does protect them from foxes, and they're not squashed into the disgusting "factory" farming cages. Chickens for eating are kept in cleaner circumstances (many are free range), so much so that we don't bleach our chickens before selling them (just cook them properly!) These are just a couple of the differences that I've seen between images of animal farming in America, and their equivalent elsewhere. I won't try to go further because these animals are the ones I know most about. Our breeding sows have a legal minimum of space, which includes space for them to lie down when they want to and not squash the babies when they come. As you can imagine, it's a _lot_ bigger than in this film, but IMHO, it could still be better. I get the impression that whilst many countries' populations (esp in developed ones) are disassociated from the source of their food, compared to its peers, America's people are by and large completely clueless about it. It's such an easy fix, too! I know that in primary school here, one of the subjects they study on and off over the years (so the info is age appropriate) is quite literally about where the food comes from. They even visit farms when possible. Many cities have "farms" for visitors, mostly filled with rescued animals which are then used in the discussion of where their bacon or whatever comes from. It's probably why there are so many younger vegetarians and vegans these days! Seriously though, the American people need to protest for better conditions for farm & zoo animals (though I suspect that typical zoos are excellent, I'm thinking about those horrid roadside ones). If you don't, there will be more need for these shelters ☹️
