Hahaha as an Airbus a319/320/321 pilot, this approach is hardcore. In 1:26 you'll hear an alarm, that's the pilots disconnecting the autopilot and fly the aircraft manually. What a challenging environment this is. I'd love to fly for Drukair.

Paro Airport is strictly a visual landing airport, no guides or passive aid are installed at the airport, as a result this airport only allows landings and take-offs during daylight hours. Along with that if the clouds hang too low, they airport has to be closed.

one of best one of landing at Paro. You guys were clearly circling around for a while. That last U turn down the ravine gave me the goose bumps. It would be great to see this in HD

looks like were circling around north of the airport for the airport for quite a while before they decided to head back south in order to find an opening in the cloud. the sharp turn and steep decent at 10:14 is where they start heading back up again. Not only do you have to be a good you actually have know these mountains like the back of your hand

Changed direction according to wind direction you might be knowing better than me...About time lenght, i think it probably to do with uneven terrain over the airport to make it a perfect landing through valleys..u can visit other paro landing videos in the youtube and see the terrrain in the google map

I wonder if they originally attempted to land from the north but changed the direction due to cloud cover, it does look like they circled around to the south again.

If I'm not mistaken, the airport can only be approached from the south due to mountains, so if they need to land from the north (depending on wind) they fly over the runway and make a steep u-turn in the closed valley beyond before landing.

Oh yeah, autopilot is disengaged way before this. You'd be surprised at how modern day avionics assist pilots these days in navigation.
