A "Staked" Three-Legged Stool: Woodturning a Plant Stand

I made a three-legged plant stand out of Cherry and Maple using staked furniture techniques. I used a lathe to turn the seat and the legs and bored holes at the drill press. I wedged the tenons to secure them into the seat mortises.

Welcome "back". Looking forward to 2023 content. I would be very interesting in seeing a "basic" series.

William, really happy to see you’ll be posting more again! I watch a lot of woodworking on KZbin but I’ve always loved your channel for the artistic and relaxed nature of the videos while still imparting lots of woodworking knowledge. I’m glad you took the time you needed and can fully appreciate that, but it’ll be good to have you back making more videos. I’m interested in anything you’ll put out, but especially if you had a video summarizing your preferred wood finishes and when and why you use them, I think that would be super valuable. Thanks for all you do!

That's a great idea for a video! I tackle that daily in the shop. "What will this be used for? What's a good utility finish? Will this see see any moisture? Etc." Thanks for watching!

Thank you! I actually started a series called Film School Fridays a long time ago but it never got much traction so I stopped doing them. Many people have asked me to bring the series back so I still might. It's hard when there's a core audience that finds it valuable but the view count and work that goes into producing them don't align.

I am still in the process of working on that timberframe. I had stalled when I got to a point I needed some lifting equipment to tackle it by myself but I think I've sourced some duct lifts to help me. I was going to do a series on the timberframe but it's a big job for just one guy so I opted to just get to work. I might do a tour of it when I'm done and break down the joinery of how I did everything.

@@wmwalkerco The whole Anarchist's trilogy is amazing, but there's a large section of The Anarchist's Design Book that's about staked furniture. I also really enjoyed Ingenious Mechanicks which has a lot of historical information about staked workbenches. I'm still waiting for the 5/8 tapered reamer to come back in stock at Lee Valley... :P

Provided you're comfortable with it, obviously, I would love to learn more about it and see more timber framing type projects if it's possible, in addition to the normal projects that we have come to love from you.
