Are you worried about the expansion of the slab breaking the legs? Awesome build and video!

Not over that span. There are calculators for tangential movement and radial movement. Over this small span, it isn't a big factor if it were say a tabletop, absolutely. Wallowing out the holes a little also cam alleviate this. Years later and the bench is still solid as ever. Thanks for watching!

You’re not the only one who assembled the base that way. I’m seeing a bunch of guys who did that. I had one of these bases for a long time, but never used it. When I put it together I realized the wheels would get in the way once I saw my new saw. But that was partly luck. I didn’t want the wheel at the right edge of the saw sticking out where I would bump into it with my right foot when using the saw, so I put them at the end on the right side. Personally, I think their big machines are better than the Laguna. They have far better customer service as well.

Just found your videos after Thanksgiving dinner. Hope you had a good holiday. Glad to see a work shop that is used instead of a production studio like a lot of KZbin creators have. Reminds me of my Dads shop as a kid and mine I have know. Purpose built cabinets and repurposed furniture, dust and a reasonable amount clutter shows you work there. Nice to see makes it obvious you have skills and came by them honestly by working and learning as you do. Subscribed

Biscuits are for pullout strength, not loading the thin biscuit as if it's going to be a load bearing spline. It's use is for keeping miters and such from opening. Not the bending strength of a biscuit. Dowels are better obviously, or dominios for speed if you can afford it. Other joints by hand are even stronger, they just don't allow as much efficiency.
@Cessna172G2 ай бұрын
Rabbeting on a jointer only works if your knives are set to the edge of the table. If not, when you pass the wood through it’ll hit the outfeed table edge since the knifes aren’t aligned with it and the cut is not made deep enough

Somehow slicing your finger with a saw is 3x worse than a sharp chisel. At least the sharp chisel gives a clean, surgical grade slice. The saw... not so much.

I could not agree with you more. use what ever the heck type of wood you want to make your jigs. drives me insane how negative people are and insist on forcing there negative opinion down your throat. That being said as soon as you said you were in bed with grizzly I stopped watching your video and changed my mind about subscribing to your channel. They manufacture trash! absolute garbage.The go514x2b bandsaw I got from them brand new worked for about a month and then I needed to replace the motor. It took 2 weeks for them to ship it then they put it on the slow boat and took another week to get! Then against my better judgement I bought the south bend 15" helical cutter planer from them. It has leaked oil since day 1. Then just yesterday the handle broke off the g0645 mortiser I got from Grizzly under a year ago, only because it was on sale and super cheap. Your insert plate looked great by the way. How did it turn out.

I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences with them! They did have a problem with one of the factories they contract with, but that's no excuse for poor customer service and I'm sorry it turned you off of my channel. The insert turned out great and it's had a great service life. I'm still using it to this day!

This is what I would do is use this as a cost of learning how to operate a business and now make sure that after paying dearly for the lesson you get the full benifit by never doing this type of deal again and checking the background of any who will supply you with their custom machinery. This way you move forward and put this incident in your rear view mirror knowing this will not happen to you again. Good luck, when fixed mill will likely be productive and you will have expertise to DIY any needed repairs. Ray Stormont

Poplar bows and cups are really easy. The board may look straight but once you cut it on the table it's a different story. Clean Alder is a good alternative to cherry it stains very similar to cherry but you have to use a pre stain. Knotty alder is a good inexpensive wood.
@wmwalkerco4 ай бұрын
I've always found poplar really stable. It sounds like you may have had some improperly dried (case hardened) poplar. I have always heard of using alder but it doesn't grow east of the Mississippi so isn't really found locally on the east coast and, therefore, more expensive. Cherry on the east coast of the USA is usually cheaper than alder.

Adjusting the fence to correct "blade drift" is not the way to do it! Your table slot is not corrected ! Leave the fence parallel to the slot... loosen the four bolts holding the table to the trunnion and line it up to your cut piece. Oh, and don't pull and drag the table when you want to move the saw to a new location.
@wmwalkerco5 ай бұрын
I'll stand by my way as my results have been perfect for years. I resaw often for bookmatched door panels. I prefer the Snodgrass method to tuning a bandsaw and you'll never convince me there's a better way to tuning a bandsaw than Alex's.. The "slot" has nothing to do with it. The guides above and below the table do though. My results speak for themselves but you do you. Years later, by the way, and I've cut thousands of feet on this particular bandsaw.
@wmwalkerco5 ай бұрын
Just to be clear. The TABLESAW, you align the slots of the table to the blade then the fence parallel to that. The bandsaw is different though

Sorry to hear about the obvious and intentional ripoff. Is there a reason that you did not go and pickup the mill?
@wmwalkerco5 ай бұрын
The reason was it was an 18 hour drive and their sales pitch is they deliver them wherever you are. Clearly, I overestimated the quality of the thing that would arrive.
@markpashia70675 ай бұрын
Too many slick talking salesmen and not enough real craftsmen out there. They took advantage of a shortage and backlog. I hate to say it our systems suck on these type issues with slow uneven courts and a judgement is often just a piece of paper. Might just be best to sell the judgement to a pro and let them try to chase him. That would free you to move on and make the best out of a bad situation. Good luck. Sometimes it is best to put them in the rear view mirror and learn a lesson. At least he did not use some patriotic plea to scam you the way he did.
@wmwalkerco4 ай бұрын
I've accepted this as a very expensive lesson. I realize I'll probably never see the judgement money. Ive tried to sell the judgment to a few agencies but I haven't found one that will take it because it's less than 6 figures unfortunately. If you know of a service that I could sell to, I'm all ears!

That sawmill shaped hunk of steel is an absolute POS. I had a similar experience w/ seqouia sawmills, absolute turds. I spent more time working on the stupid machine than cutting wood. Ended up buying a large TK2400, 70hp kubota diesel, thing cuts like a monster, no down time other than switching blades and occasionally belts etc. Lesson I learned is, buy the largest heaviest sawmill you can afford, TK, cooks, WM, Baker all make good sawmills, I personally like 4 post fully supported hydraulic mills but you pay for it. Hope your rebuilt sawmill works out for you. Hopefully Sean goes bankrupt and stops making sawmills.
@wmwalkerco5 ай бұрын
That TK2400 is a beast! Yeah this isn't the most efficient mill but at least it's making lumber now. I also like the 4 post design and am baffled you don't hear about more issues with the cantilever WM design.

@@wmwalkerco The cantilever WM design is proven and tested, really can't be questioned after 40+ years of their mills being used in production sawing. I'm on my third WM mill and all they need to keep sawing and making money are routine maintenance, wear parts, and occasional alignment.
