Can Anti-seize be used in lieu of the "Squeaky Juice" ? Is the Template absolutely necessary?

so the anti-squeaky juice is just brake paste that acts as an insulator to eliminate brake noise or brake chatter. The small vibration you will get without it can cause that chatter and be annoying..not using it won't affect the braking power either, it just stops the chatter...same as on a car. You can buy brake paste pretty cheap on amazon and I really don't see why anti-seize wouldn't work...basically, it's the same thing. The template they provide just guides you in putting on an equal amount across the brake pad...honestly we use the Permatex brand or liquid molly and smear it across the whole back and install the pad. I use it on all brake pads and HD is the only one that even provides it or a template. Here is a small bottle or you can pick this up at local parts stores too. If you are doing pads pretty regularly you can get this in a bigger bottle as well for about 20 bucks. amzn.to/3KlKlJ4

FWIW, I always just remove the pads without compressing the pistons back in. I then give the pistons a good clean to fix/prevent the brake from dragging. There's a dirt cheap caliper piston compression tool available to shove the pitons back in after the cleaning is done. Great video! Thanks for the detail!

Trust me...at first I had the same question...asked a HD tech that had been there for literally decades and he said I dont know...swear to god...he said thats the way its always been and he just follows the service manual lol it wont hurt anything to add it if you want though..and honestly I usually use EBC pads and none at all on the front or rear..never had a squeak issue.

Excellent video... Took maybe 10 minutes to switch out my brake pads on my 21 SGS yesterday. Put in some lyndall gold series and IMO 10x better then oem brake pads. My service manually did not show, luckily the Harley dealership knew, that the rear brake pad pin is a different part number and maybe an 1/8" shorter than the front pins. The brake pads, for my model, are the exact same for the fronts and rear luckily.

Totally digging your intels you always share. I just purchased my dream bike ‘22 RGL, just got done my first 1k service and the HD service tried to charge me for a full brake service job because there was moisture in the lines. The service person tried to blame me for the cause, luckily the service manager caught it and took care of me under the warranty ordeal. My question is what or how do I go about avoid moisture in my lines in for the future?

if they told you at the 1K service that was your fault, id find a new dealer and tech. Moisture gets in through small pores in the lines or on the master cylinder covers...but its minuet ...you could have a bad seal on the cover or even a bad line...a 22 with 1k miles on it...no way..EVER, that was your fault.

Yes..you will have an ABS sensor but other than that it is exactly the same. Make a mental note of how the sensor is on and put it back the same way. There is nothing you need to do extra because it is abs.

for some odd reason, Ive even asked the HD techs and they have no idea, but on the rear pads, the HD pads will come with a template and anti squeal....however for the front..it will not. You absolutely can add it though.

The only difference is the ABS sensor. On the front its a plate that has a wire going to it from the brake line. you'll see it. Its behind the 2 bolts that hold the caliper on. When you remove the caliper it come off too..all you do is put it back on before you pout the bolts back in. Super easy, cant mess it up. On the rear the sensor is on the axle...its actually part of the axle spacer so you wont even mess with it. Just change the pads like normal.

I have a 21 Street Glide Special with the RDRS. I just checked my front pads, without removing the caliper, and I see the groves on the set in the caliper on one side, but the set in the caliper on the other side are worn through and need to replaced. Great video! What about brake fluid if needed? Some say DOT 4 and some say DOT silicone 5??

DOT4 is yellow, dot5 is silicone based and is purple. But once they are used over time the dot5 can turn yellowish clear..so thats only good for when its new. You cannot run dot5 in a system with ABS. It froths up and makes tiny bubbles and wont let your ABS work correctly. Most importantly you cannot mix dot4 and dot5 or 5.1, its like mixing oil and water...so its best to not ever change from what it is in there now. Also mixing 4 and 5 will gel up in your system and thats a really bad day. If you are not sure what brake fluid you have in there now you will have to buy some new dot4 and put a little in a bowl, then take a little of it from your master cylinder and put it in there...if it mixes, its dot4, if it separates, its dot5. You will be able to tell..its plain as day when you mix the 2. The only thing dot5 does is not hurt your paint if you spill it. Dot4 wont either if you get it cleaned up right away...I mean clean it with a degreaser and then rewax the part you spilled it on. Its not like this stuff eats paint right away. Only if you leave it on the surface for a period of time. I hope this helps clear it up! Be safe!

really ebay is the only good place to find used ones. but I dont use the books...All of my manuals are PDF format and can be put on your phone, pc, tablet etc...plus they are searchable. I can hit Ctrl+F and search the manual and go exactly where I need to go without flipping through pages. Plus I Have about 60 manuals...thats a lot of books. I can hook you up with a pdf version for free if youw ant it. let me know

Hey Steve, I changed the rear brake pads few days ago and inspected the rear rotor too. Everything looked good. But with these new brake pads, whenever I use the rear brake coming to a slow stop, the bike feels like it lunges fwd slowly to a stop (rear brake only). Think that's a sign of a warped rotor?

As Sean stated please run a quick bleed on your system...even if its abs...just dont turn the key on and the abs is wide open...it will llet air pass right through.

Good day man. Your videos are amazing. maybe a silly question. are the pads the same for front and back? When i spoke to Harley they said they were different and had different part numbers. After watching your awesome video im thinking the different part numbers are because of the grease that comes with the rear. Again amazing and very helpful video

Hey Chad...the reason Hd says it has two part numbers is the the rear (41852-08B) kit comes with brake paste and the front (41854-08) does not...the are indeed the same pads and pin. Only the rears call for brake paste to cut down on brake noise. You can buy third party pads ike the ones I have linked in the description and add your own paste to the rears...you would get 3 sets of those pads...2 front, one rear. I hope this helps.

God video I have a question I have a 2022 tri glide and if I push on the foot pedal and then pull on the front leaver I can’t pull it but it don’t do it all the time and I rode the smoky Mountain memorial ride and had to come home in the rain and it would not slow down I had to down shift quick .I am being told this in normal I also have a ultra classic and a Goldwing trike is never had this on those bikes .putting in the shop and I don’t want the technician to try and bull me.thank you.

Thank you Richard! Well you for sure have something going on in the system. With these newer systems there are a lot of added features that are controlled by the bikes computer such as the abs, electronic linked braking, cornering enhanced linked braking, cornering enhanced traction control system etc....there is a lot going on when you hit your brakes on a tri glide. I would make sure the ECM/BCM are up to date first and then go from there...its really hard to put my finger on one specific thing that could be causing this...regardless...i do not think that is "normal" and if it is....thats dangerous.

Hey John sorry for thr late reply...I painted it myself with high temp paint. Took awhile to mask it off...but man that oem rotor was killing me with a black rim...you can get matching rotors from these though too...i just opted to paint it...cheaper and 4 years later it still looks the same. havent lost any paint.

the only difference on a abs bike is the abs sensor on the spacer which does not need to be touched in a brake job. The two bolts that hold the matal plate are the same 2 bolts you need to pull to remove the caliper. It will still be attached to the spacer though...so just pull it off the same as this video, put it back when you put the 2 bolts back in. Go out and look at your bike...the wire going going to the spacer and the metal plate on the 2 bolts..youll see what im saying. Its only on the left side of the bike where the abs bearing is

If your torque setting for the rear caliper is 45 foot lbs what is the front caliper around 30lbs.

front brake caliper mounting screws are 28 - 38 ft lbs. rear is 43-48

Steve, I would recommend throttle body salvent cleaner that's safe for rubber and plastics. Most solvent cleaners expand rubber.

No the service manual does not call for any thread locker. just torque them to spec.

Wondering about the service manual, Do I need a 2 manuals if I have a 2021 Road Glide Special and a 2022 CVO Road Glide Limited? 1 Shop said I need 1 for each bike and another shop says no I don't. All touring models are covered under the same manual...so its by year...however there is little to no difference between the 21 and 22...so significant changes.

Hey man have a question I have a 2022 street glide special would like your opinion on brake pads which is the best and last longer? I’m going to try to do it on my own because Harley is extremely expensive. And how do u know if u need to change them,I heard u say they are thin so how do u know if u need to change them

Having a basic knowledge of how thick they are when you get them new will help you decide on if you need them but if you have a cheap digital caliper like this amzn.to/3wYy7lA you can check..if the brakes are less than 016 in (0.4 mm) you need to change them . Brake pads come in 3 flavors and they all have positives and negatives (Organic to Sintered, Organics are softer to Sintered which contain a ton of metal) 1. Organic ( stops you on a dime, super easy on chrome rotors, wont last long, creates a ton of brake dust) 2. Semi Sintered (stops really good, lasts pretty good, semi abrasive on chrome rotors, still creates a little brake dust) 3. Sintered ( lasts forever, doesnt stop you the best, creates very little dust, super rough on chrome rotors) I run EBC Semi Sintered on all 5 of my bikes. Great video thank you. Subscriber here. Question: I always use a wire on my CAR brake caliper when i change brakes so that the weight of the caliper doesn't damage the brake line. I noticed you let the caliper hang. Did you secure it somehow off cam or is it ok to let it hang? Thank you in advance

The car calipers I would to..much heavier. If the bike is newer I really dont worry about ti too much..older bikes, yes hang them with a wire. never know how brittle they are.

I torque them to spec and have never had an issue with them backing out. Im a firm believer in blue thread locker on harley parts and it certainly wont hurt anything if you use it.

No Advan didnt do pegs. I had these from an older bike and had them powder coated as they were chrome but they are the baddad 900 series pegs and just a set of clamps from amazon
