This is why greats like EVH were such good lead players. It was because they were great rhythm players first. Same for Steve Lukather, Daryl Stuermer, etc.

I don't really have one but it doesn't look like something I would sign up for. It works for him obviously .

The intro sounded very Steely Dan-ish (real word), even though it was from Steve Vai. Interesting.

I also love how you give the answer so as to "not have you be curious for the entire video". So nice. Down and to the point. No bs.

This is an absolutely critical skill when playing in a band, especially if you’re the only guitarist. Your drummer and bassist will hate you if you can’t groove…

But isn't this just...syncopation? Man, it seems so obvious to anyone who isn't "rhythmically challenged," but it's a different story on an instrument.

Hi may you have a look at Woodstock improvisation by Hendrix, he’s shredding really hard on this one and I can’t play it on my own 😅 Cheers from France

Hmm... although I think I do have all this syncopationstuff "mastered" (playing drums for many years), it doesn't feel like helping me techniquewise on guitar.

Love your teaching style and how clear you present the concepts with logical analysis yet not without the passion we all have for music and our instrument. This lesson in particular compelled me to leave a comment - thank you! Super important fundamental for improvising whether new or as a constant reminder. I wish I still lived in Suffolk, I'd beg you for one to one lesson to help my further develop my playing. I specially liked what you said about artsy stuff that some tell you and you need to go figure it out 😅
