That's interesting to watch. All these other youtubers were showing off their TRD OR/TRAILHUNTER/TRD PRO that pushes $70k and yet this little SR5 that's almost stock is doing just fine. It just proves you don't need to spend 60k+ on a higher trim and you'll do just fine in majority of the off-road situations in a base model trim

We had a 23 frontier was a great solid truck. Not surprised about the results in this video, Toyota put a lot of money into this truck, more than i would say Nissan did for the Frontier. Can't go wrong with either though. Both are awesome and owners of both i would imagine are very happy with their purchase (maybe less for the Taco considering the prices :D)

The Tacoma hands down has better articulation, but you each took two different lines in that last obstacle. Both you and the Jeep put your passenger front tires in the deepest part of the hole (in the water). The Tacoma put that same tire upslope from that hole. His passenger side front end never dipped down because the tire was upslope and so the driver side rear end didn't have to lift very far. Once again, he does have better articulation, but that last obstacle was an apples to oranges comparison.

Wow! Just came back from an offroad trip and camp out with a group of friends here in California through Big Bear, down Rattlesnake Canyon to Johnson Valley, through the high desert and then to Cleghorn 4x4 trail. Our boy with his 24 Frontier Pro 4x was struggling BAD on these tight, exposed and endless trails and switch backs. We all found out just how bad his trucks turning radius and heavy steering is on the trails, and we had to save his truck more than once using straps and even one of our winches so he wouldn't get it stuck or die. We were so glad it wasn't heavily modified or else, who TF knows how much worse it would have been with a lift, larger tires and more weight and such. It was the only truck that we had to stop for regularly and get out and guide, just so he could make a simple switch back. 🤦🏾‍♂️ He's only had it for a month and after his ordeal this past long 4th of July pre weekend, he already made up his mind and is going back to a 3rd gen Tacoma lol! He literally traded his 19 Tacoma TRD pro for it and is now kicking himself for doing so. Long story short: the frontier is not trail friendly and I would recommend that you NEVER go solo on some isolated and potentially dangerous or advanced trails. I go solo on my Taco all the time with my kids and lady, but wouldn't do the same on a frontier. I guess I love my family too much. Also, he tore the F out of the back sides of the rear seat back rests folded down, since they are lined with weak cloth, after putting his fridge and some other materials that he would carry on his Tacoma for the trip lol! How TF you don't line them with hard materials like the Taco and other trucks?

Obligatory booger sugar. Also, I don't think that gladiator had his front sway bar disconnected. When I go off road, I take a 19 mm socket and 3/4" wrench with me. With my cordless Ryobi electric rachet, it takes me about 1 minute to disconnect and then zip tie those bad boys up out of the way. Gives way more flex. Hope that Taco lasts. The new ones don't seem super durable (Truck King had a clutch blow, and TFL blew their front diff). Still love the simplicity of a Frontier. Do they make long travel kits for it?

On that last area of the trucks driving back and forth, the Tacoma takes a different line than the Frontier, making it look like the Tacoma performed with less wheel lift. The Tacoma still has great articulation from stock, but I don’t think it out performed any one’s rig. Plus, that Tacoma had me cringing with those side steps. While I own and love my Tacoma’s, I don’t really consider one manufacturers platform completely superior to another’s. Installing aftermarket lockers though can really make the difference in performance though.

@@martbrown2775 it’s the ratio of torque at the wheels of your truck at your engines flywheel. This is in 4LO and in this instance it’s really when you’re crawling over an obstacle at a slow speed but getting as much torque to all the wheels as possible. This is also applied for towing. The higher the ratio the better it will perform really.

I would take any one of the trucks If some one gave one to me. They seems to all do well. I like the new gladiators a lot despite not owning one. I have driven a few belonging to others and like the diesel ones as well. I like my frontiers well and have driven Datsun pickup since the 520s. I was big into the D21s when the only lift was Trailmaster. Now there seems to be alot more options and components available. I really like the titan swaps. I also like the RoughCountry lift. I think that over all it depends on the trucks usesage. I have seen some Frontiers with bodylifts and roof top tents, make me nervous TBH. They have not broken anything but they are more overlander and less rocklander or trail rig. I think the Jeeps are as much as the Toyotas when I look on line to buy. I am a big Toyota fan, but the more people that have one the less I want to own and build a 4th or 5th gen. IMHO now if you "overland" you "need a Taco" with all the fixins? I have 6 friends that all have them with various mods done and various stages of building more and spending more. I am the hold out with the Frontier and then the various other 10 to 30 year old rigs on the trail. I feel like I am have as much fun as the Toyota guys and my wallet is fatter? Maybe. lmao Great video, keep up the Nissan build and footage. For the money the Nissan is great. They can to everything the Tacos can!

@@4wdAdventurz Hey, you can do quite a bit with 3 inches. But I know where you're coming from. I will say though that the added track width helps quite a bit in the stability department. Idk why all the hate on Toyota from you when all they are doing is slowly complying with government regulations set forth for all automakers, just as other brands have already done and are still doing. All new iterations of all midsize trucks in the USA will be going to turbo 4(or other, i.e., diesels, hybrids and even EVs)due to tighter emission and fuel consumption regulations(most already are and/or are no longer V6 powered) . This includes Nissan, after they move from this current generation Frontier to the next. Just like the 3rd gen Taco and current 4runner, it will be the last of its kind, so all your sh*t talking towards the new Taco is for nothing. Most full size trucks are already following that path as well, and are discontinuing their respective v8 powerplants. This Nissan is nothing special and already pretty dated. Not a bad truck at all, just like a 3rd gen Tacoma is also not bad at all.

That Tacoma doesn't look "stock". First the wheels are sticking out the fenders like 2", so either those wheels or spacers. And did it look like it was sitting kinda high for an SR5? Plus, I bet that particular lift on the frontier isn't helping it off-road any, except maybe in height/clearance. If you're going to be wheelin' often, a free 5 min deal, remove the rear sway bar.
