The triangular indentations are also seen on some doors, such as the ones concealing the chain levers in the Shrine of the Coral Tomb. The Shrine of the Coral Tomb is interesting, because the journals within it describe it as a burial place used by the sirens, but there are also many human skulls inside, and it incorporates both siren coral structures, as well as ancient stonework. It seems these triangles were used by the ancients as a symbol of passage. The Gold Hoarder's inverted triangle is similarly associated with doors, as you find it scrawled on the wall near the hidden doors that contain the keys to the chest with the ancient relic. I theorize the inverted triangle is used by the Gold Hoarder as a kind of charm or ward intended to keep secrets. I don't have any proof, but I think the circumstantial evidence is pretty good. It's inscribed on a medallion placed in the lid of the chest that holds the ancient relic, but it isn't used for anything when opening the chest. There's also a medallion embedded in the Gold Hoarder's skull which was placed there deliberately; it's not a part of his skeleton curse. And it's also scrawled on the walls near the forbidden keys, and in the Scholar's journal. The Scholar begs you in his journal not to open the forbidden coral chest, and in his final entries he says that he hopes the curse of sunken sorrow will die with him, locked away inside the Shrine of Ancient Tears. If the Gold Hoarder trusted this scholar enough to entrust a precious treasure to him for safeguarding, it's possible that even under the effects of the skeleton curse he has enough will to listen to the Scholar's advice and hide the chest away forever, thus the secrecy ward on the lid. Similarly, we know the Order of Souls can pry memories out of the skulls of defeated skeletons, and we sell the Gold Hoarder's skull to the Order following the events on the Shores of Gold, yet nothing comes of it and the Hoarder returns to the sea. What if the medallion in the Hoarder's skull prevented the Order from finding any of his secrets, and negotiated for his release in exchange for information?

Okay holy crap I know my last comment was long and rambly but I think I just stumbled into something big. The Gold Hoarder is cursed. Yeah he's a skeleton, yeah his body is mostly gold. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the coral. Spoilers for A Pirate's Life, but what are you doing on Falcore's channel if you're not up to date on SoT? Anyway, the Gold Hoarder is covered in coral, just like the Warrior, just like the ancient skeletons that roam the Shrines and Treasuries. He's cursed by the curse of sunken sorrow now, too. We know that the Scholar also became cursed, and that the Scholar received the ancient relic from Humphrey, of the Gold Hoarders. The Hoarder himself obviously trusts Humphrey a great deal, considering Humphrey's rank within the organization, so it's likely that Humphrey got the relic from the Hoarder, thus the medallion on the lid of the forbidden coral chest. We can infer from this that the Gold Hoarder himself went to the Shrine of Ancient Tears prior to the Sunken Kingdom awakening and found the tomb of the Warrior, where he became cursed for the third time. We now find him in service of the Captain, and he is even willing to risk injury and capture by pirates to ensure the Captain's plan is successful. Why would he do this, when his only loyalties previously were to wealth? Yes, Jones bribed him with Cortez's gold to get him to cooperate, but he seems obsessed with the Captain when we spy on the meeting of the Dark Brethren in the Coral Palace. I believe the Gold Hoarder has become fearful of what the cost of so many curses upon him may be, and the Captain secured his loyalty by offering to break his curses. I think the same goes for the other members of the Dark Brethren. The Siren Queen, Wanda, Davy Jones, all cursed. That leaves just Duke. But Duke was acting very strange when we last saw him. What if that's the reason he's allied with the Brethren? He discovered something or broke some taboo that cursed him, and he hopes to stave off the effects by aiding the Captain. Which leads me to my final conclusion: the Captain, who was described in Flameheart Jr's diary as a skeleton, is beyond the Sea of Thieves, recruiting an army of pirates, according to Jones. How would a skeleton be able to navigate the outside world without being destroyed on sight by a terrified navy? And how could someone secure the loyalty of a cadre of cursed cutthroats? Offer them proof you can break curses. *The Captain broke his skeleton curse.*

The Gold Hoarder skull you sell to the OoS is almost certainly never actually used in their ritual. Here's why: the Gold Hoarders are the main reason the OoS is a legit trading company. They fund them, so that they can survive and buy your skulls (which secrets are then given to the Gold Hoarders). So basically OoS gave back the skull to the Gold Hoarders as it is their leader.

It’s a star gate , Atlantis had them too. You need a special combination to make them work. You have to get it from the shrouded ghost after finding her a defeating her 5 times you will get the combination and then transport yourself where the ancients went.

The amount of lore in the game is amazing. It's my favorite part of the game besides being so open. I wonder if, after a while, Rare might partner with some other studios to make novels, and a series of movies. I can see several novels being made that depict the events in SOT from different pirates' point of views. Maybe even graphic novels.

Since Hoarder didn't have the Coral Curse until after his resurrection for Dark Brethren, I think we can assume that the curse is a byproduct of his resurrection, perhaps using siren magic?

No, we already have the Gold Hoarder's backstory. He used to be Rathbone, a member of the Pirate Lord's crew who betrayed him and became obsessed with finding all the gold in the Sea of Thieves, which is why he created the Gold Hoarder trading company. This lust for gold eventually turned him into the Skeleton Lord we know, though the Coral is a new addition that occurred between the time we fight him at Tribute Peak and a Pirate's Life. While he was once a cunning man, he never was a scholar, and now he's a gold encrusted Skeleton who's only purpose is to find gold and can only speak in a slow, disjointed manner that doesn't fit the Scholar's vocabulary. In fact, the Gold Hoarder is the "master" Humphrey refers to in the first note we get for the Sunken Voyage, as all the Gold Hoarders still serve him and bring gold to his throne room at Tribute Peak. However, we can assume that he did in fact find the tomb using the Scholar's notes, thus why they're in Humphrey's possession.

Wait. What if there is another gate on tribute island or somewhere else in the devil's roar yet to be uncovered. And that area is where flameheart comes back to life. We've seen many things from the trailer in the game. The kraken, those gates, instruments, and we do have flameheart, but only as a ghost. So if that trailer is one massive hint to all that will be in the game, flameheart may use that key to become bones. It is only speculation, but its could happen.

I wonder if the scholar killed Ramsey under orders from flame heart as a pretense or requirement for flame hart curing them of the coral curse. Part of the deal could have been to kill Ramsey’s spawn, thus why they still hunt them. I’m particularly interested as to what makes this curse so dangerous, as while it could be the skeleton curse, and would be a very interesting story development if it were, it is very clearly not, seeing as how the original bearer is not undead.

you dont need a crew for the voyage, i did it by my self in an hour and a half and i was fine, the only problem is you are sailing back and forth around the map. just keep an eye out on the horizon

I did it solo. Not difficult. Just takes patience. The good thing about it no crew can steal the chest to do the quest themselves and it can not be sold. As soon as you get a key put it in the chest and it’s safe from those lowlife players who just like to ruin players games
