My dad owned one of these when they came to Australia in the 50's. We lived in the backblocks of Sydney, and dad would ride the family to the beach. It had a chair, poorly attached, which would break mounts due to the rough,narrow single lane roads and the lack of a front downtube. Up long inclines, the low powered machine would chug up, irritating the following car drivers. The rear hub cush drive was knackered too. Dad's still alive at home by himself now, aged 94. If I think about it, I'll show him your video. Many thanks. 👍

The vision is like poetry in motion and your voiceover is like someone reading me that poetry. So many believe machines inc yours. When I was a lad in the 60s in Australia, my dad used to tell me of his adventures in the 1930s on his old Harley , with friends and there Sloper panthers, scott squirrels, Brough superiors etc. to see them restored now, sends me back to those days with my dad. Thank you.

These bikes are too wonderful for words. To see them running like this is an amazing achievement. When I was born, 77 years ago, some of these bikes were only a couple of decades old. I sadly foresee a time when these bikes are banned by the eco exhaust inspectors without any discussion. Probably be the fate of vintage cars as well. Ride on regardless that is all that I say !

Fascinating and beautifully produced video! The machine is a credit to you. I own a 1930 500cc Yorkshire-built machine too, which left the factory as a 600, but it could hardly be more different from your beautiful Panther!

Excellent video thank you very much. I always loved the P&M big cats I used to see them most days as I worked near the old Panther work in Cleckheaton. They always used to say more Panthers were built in garden sheds than in the factory!. Oh happy days.

Thanks Eric. In-shed construction is certainly the case with Panther builds now! The Club's outstanding spares scheme continues to assist in restoration of the most hopeless cases.

My late Father’s comment about his pre war 600 was the most frightening ride was keeping up with his brother on the Hog’s Back. His brother had a two stroke Zenith but the oil pump had partially disintegrated so with stick cut from hedge to stem the flow it was a flat out ride from there to Epsom with Father being rather breathless!

Those Chord Tyres have some grip in the wet..! Having done lots of orienteering, I would try to use a map every time, if the regs allow it. The 'Fishbone' or the sequential junctions method, is a recipe for confusion.

Another gem of a video - which had me delving into my phone to see if I had photos of either machine from last years Banbury run, but unfortunately not. Hopefully I’ll see them in 2021 ! Thanks for posting 😊🇬🇧🏍

I had the chance in the early 80s to borrow a rigid panther with a car back wheel from a friend and in company with some Japanese German and Italian machines, we did Wrynose and hardnotts passes, the Panther played with it and was the first to the top on both, closely followed by a 550 Honda, it was a great weekend fondly remembered.
@PantherOwnersClub1 Жыл бұрын
Some challenges in those climbs Kevin. We seldom realise at the time how important these events are. I have a headful of Panther memories going back to the 1970s; rides, puncture repairs, sunny days and soakings.

I imported the twin of the first picture out of the UK in the late 70s, a model 120 with a Busmar DA left mount sidecar. Sure got a lot of strange looks riding it around in Phoenix AZ USA.

Always good to know my efforts are well-received Paul. Stop me and say hello next time, if you can catch me. Can't find fuel consumption notes for the Red Panther at present but I think not quite up to P&M's claim of 115 mpg.

Hello. I'm curios, for such a motorbike, how hard is to find spare parts and how ofen it needs repairs.

Some spares are available Telecolor but we must be inventive, and have good friends who are also interested in old motorcycles.

The Panther Owners Club spares scheme will post overseas but we don't have every part. No piston was available for the 93 year old motorcycle featured here. I found one to suit from a FIAT Mirafiori.

Gentleman please explain no air filter after all the meticulous care in restoration, at least zip-ty a Uni sock on it, when arriving at tire kicking session remove it and put it in zip lock baggy in pocket for "period" correctness display. Zip-ty back on for return trip. Always liked the Panther, love the vids, Thanks
@PantherOwnersClub13 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern from the perspective of 2021 Mark but for me the problem with upgrades of this kind is always where to stop. Like most makers' models for the home market at that time, Panthers had no air filtration. The valve gear on this machine is much more at risk, having only an oil-impregnated felt pad to lubricate the rocker shafts and nothing for the valves but whatever the rider chooses to squirt at them; in my case chain lubricant every 100 miles or so. In 30 years I have replaced valves and guides once but the bore looked good for another twenty years. I think that the engine may well outlast me.
