Great job on the doors. Just a little tip, I always plane the leading edge ‘under’ a couple of millimetres. Just helps the door close on the brush seals.

You've got some balls mate, got there in the end but that was painfull.. Whenever I get a new tool, or have to fit a lock or something I've never done before, I always do my research, practice and do a test run on a scrap door.. Did you figure out the confusion with the router yet? I think it only has a 50mm plunge and the bit was too long to sit flush with the base and plunge with.. What you did works but im uneasy about starting the router in a hole like that, it could kick and possibly split some doors. I'd probably use a shorter bit and do it in two passes, route out the max 50mm with the shorter bit then switch to the longer router bit to finish it off. Also, good on you for not editing out the mistakes.

I remember one of the jobs I was on I saw an apprentice borrow the Foreman's planer through a string line haha took hours to fix. That black bag reminds me of that.

Nice video. For both those doors if I was changing them out I would make them swing towards the wall. Makes better use of space. Thanks for sharing!

Ye good idea though the light switch may be covered when door is open which is not a deal breaker which might be deemed to be unintuitive ✨💚🙏

Have a word with trend - fancy not giving you the cordless router. Also I’ve been caught out with no dust bag before. If the plane has a round outlet sometimes you can use a bit of waste pipe on it then the black bag - gets you out of trouble 😂

Great video yet again, thanks for showing us the mistakes and mentioning the corrections and fixes. Just a request with your videos, when you mention you have done something in a previous video add that link that shows up in the top corner (in this case I know it was from the last upload - i watched it :) ) and at the end add a link to another video of yours. I think you have enough of a back catalogue now, and it will help others see more of your videos.

@@alextheman422 to each his own ? Its how I make my living hanging a 5 amp plus battery off a small trim router is odd ? I know I run them all the time. As opposed to using a light corded router hooked right next to your work area like here ? I carry both in my van! In this case I will every time plug it in and leave the battery switch out (3amp hour is what I run sometimes 5& within an hour or 90 minutes I need to switch out batteries ) . So I know what I am talking bout. It’s my bread & butter!

@andyfisher1906
@andyfisher1906 5 ай бұрын
@@Seanjames570 fitting a fire door you have to comply with what its been tested to, so the alternative is to buy a certified cut and re-sized certified blank and not an 'off the shelf' std size if the opening is not standard

@@andyfisher1906 100% right not allowed to cut the top off fire doors label on the top tells you this, label has to remain in place for inspection. only have to fit pad behind one side of the hinge as well either door or frame. Tough job and inspectors can be a nightmare

@@ZAL70 cant touch the top as you say because of the label, but only the bottom can be trimmed by 6mm on these jeld wen doors (from howdens), it vary's depending on the manufacturer and how its tested, its a mind field!!! its why they are so cheap to buy off the shelf, purchasing a purpose made blank lipped 4 edges is about 3 times the price and thats why people do it

Doors are tricky, I am just so slow doing it, so don’t do it much anymore. I am not a carpenter and don’t have all the jig. Using the router horizontally is a bit crazy in my opinion. Better of removing door from hinges, especially if you have a nice stand.

Please please please stop doing fire doors It’s not you fault but your not fully up on current legislation.. You cut off more than is recommended off the bottom of that first door which states by the manufacturer also when you took out the leg of the frame there was no fire foam or intumescent packers which means probably non behind the whole thing and also the other doors too on the job Legislation now says all frames have to be fire foamed in and intumescent packers used or intumescent mastic I’m only tell you this as I’m a uk fire door registered inspector and installers
