I just bought a D10v. I remembered this video when I saw this exact problem. Thank you for making videos. I headed off a lot of trial, error and disappointment. Mine had several issues that are now fixed, Thanks again.

Agree. Valve body need disassembled, turned 90 degrees,maybe refaced if needed, and confirm valve opens a tad (5 to 8 degrees ) before top dead center (TDC). Make sure the reversing lever is full reverse or full forward so you get the TDC right. 😊 Enjoy your videos and learn from them.

I suspect that it's the wrong shade of green, you do tend to repaint a lot of these engines and I can only assume this is to improve performance.

I know very little about any of this. It's just always fascinating to watch someone who is skilled and knowledgeable in a field/hobby/profession do their thing.

I go for the valve slider is on sideways..low power and won't self start.

Valve has been turned 90° on shaft & due to the valve itself being slightly more oblong than square, it's effectively changed the vavle timing.... Fix; disassemble, turn valve 90°, reassemble, oil, re-time.... I dont know steamies too well- it was the shape of the valve & the comparo that gave it all away........OCD much?!? :v

No slack in the valve body so it can float and/or the port face of the valve is machined wrong
@ropulse15 жыл бұрын
Well I see two things I would investigate further: 1. the valve appears to be fixed to the adjustment instead of free floating (I need to be able to feel it to be certain) , second the valve is not uncovering all of the port, it would bear looking into why, is it the reversing mechanism or the cam.

No - that's not it ......

Hmm interesting ... I have no idea as a start but two things come to mind from watching your other videos ... either the valve is turned 90° (it looks like the ports are not properly uncovered like in your other engine) or that cross bar which moves the valve up and down is too tight so the valve does not sit flush against the back face, or something else stops the valve from sitting flush (maybe *gasp* forgotten to machine the bottom!?!)

Is that valve fitted sideways ?
@NathanielKempson5 жыл бұрын
Could it be something lifting it off the face? A bit of dirt or something causing a leak perhaps?

The only thing I can see is the block on the threaded rod isn't central to the valve. Would this cause blow by down one side of the valve?

Keith, I am no engineer, and mechanically I am a bit of an idiot. From what I thought I saw in the video, it looks like the dimensions of the two valves are different, and they open the ports by different amounts. Could the dimensions of the valve slide be off?
@keithappleton5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the valve worked a lot better the other way around . . .
@fireutility215 жыл бұрын
I’m no expert, but you presented a challenge and I accepted. Is it the travel in the valve? I looks like the one from the Netherlands barely travels over the ports, while yours travels completely from top to bottom

The valve was too long
@marbella915 жыл бұрын
Armchair engineer here: At 4:50 it looks like the valve moves too far and opens the exhaust passage to the steam chest, therefor blowing steam straight into the exhaust whilst preventing the expanded steam from the side of the piston which should be exhausting to escape. Seems to me that the excentricity of the excentrics is too big.

I’d say not enough clearance between the valve and its threaded brass retainer (can’t remember the name of this part) so the valve is not allowed to sit properly on the portfaces
@brianargo45955 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of with the exhaust call of this engine is the other cylinder is fighting the one that works alright, or also vice versa, since the crank timing is out of whack. Good possibility I'm wrong, since I be no expert on such. Generally more of an i.c. engine specialist, versus e.c.

obviously, you've cross-wired the infandibulator!

In my opinion the slide valve is to long from top to bottom and therefore not uncovering the ports enough

I bought a nice Yamaha keyboard today as used to be a bonesman back in some punk and ska groups back in the early eighties and want to get back into playing some music, have an electric guitar but my attempts at it makes it sound like a cat going to toilet with a sewn up bum but know I can pull off some tunes with a keyboard hehe

This is just a just gess, had to watch it 10 times or so but: I think the plate covering the holes is to big, and covers all the holes some of the time. when starting there must be air flowing to a cylinder(s) else the pistons do not move.and you need to start it manual.

Guesses: (1) not enough kittens in the mechanism; (2) too many kittens in the mechanism; (3) operator failing to wear a hat; (4) weather not sunny enough; (5) not being operated on a Tuesday afternoon. Are any of these close?

is it due to being made of recycled heineken cans or due to the cheese stuck in the steam chest? e damned if I know.
