I like this actor playing the role of Sherlock Holmes. Very serious, not over reacting, sure of him self, not stand off type of character. I give this movie a 10.

Again, filmmakers are bound and determined to make Watson a paunchy old man. He is a 30yo man, recently honorably discharged from the army, who is still recovering from severe illness, and deficient weight. Holmes, as well, is only 29 in A Study in Scarlet. These actors couldn’t have been more physically miscast.

That loss MAY have to do with children being more at ease with the `benevolent grandpa´ imagery, instead of the severely hypocrite drug-addict `modern Holmes BS´. Popularity choice, not necessarily making sense, or being fun to watch.

The villains in the original story were members of that still-evil cult known as the Mormons. The plot had nothing to do with a tontine.

Well, this film was almost, but not quite, a total disappointment. It was slow and anticlimactic. Though Owen is not a great Holmes in either look or manner, his acting was, as always, just fine. Same for Mowbray. But the main attraction that brought me to this film was Anna May Wong. Sadly, she was completely wasted in this role, and that is a shame.

I drifted in and out of this and lost my way completely....only 2 things I could be sure of...same title but totally different story to ACD's original.....and the obvious lesbian come on at 1h:04 when Anna May tells the blonde to come to her room if she needed anything and the look on Anna Mays face...but then this was pre code.

I thought it was a good movie though it had little to do with the original story. The Holmes was masculine and lacking eccentricity. Watson played a minor role. The female and male lovers were likable and well played. The villans both the male lead amd the very sexy snd seductive Anne Maye Wong was great. Good effort. Worth a watch.
