The scene in first episode where Firoz brushes off the petal from Maan's shoulder needs to be paid attention. It sort of feels to say he would do anything for Maan. And in the last episode during Lata's wedding, Maan is standing and watching as Firoz walks up and joins him. They talk and as they start to walk together, Maan notices a petal on Firoz's shoulder and brushes it off just like Firoz did for him at Pran's wedding. They love each other and would do anything

I binged the entire season in a night. I thought it was fantastic. But I found the mother to be absolutely insufferable. Just once I wanted to see Lata, or someone, put the mother in her place. Tabu as Saeeda Bai was phenomenal. Ishaan Khatter really blew me away with his honest portrayal. As much as I loved it, I felt the dialogues spoken in Urdu and Hindi were more soulful than the entire series being in English. It’s still a beautiful watch.

Spoilers ahead. Consider yourself warned. Totally got the vibe that Maan and Firoz were gonna kiss the whole series but never happened. Would've made for a very interesting plot. Also, what's up with Lata choosing Haresh over the other two?! Just because her brother disapproved of him a light bulb went off in her head that she's supposed to marry the man her mother chose for her?! Rather than the other two who felt much more "suitable" For her Intellectually. Would've liked a little more background on Varun's story. Are they saving that for a season two? Felt like they gave us major details about his life but casually mentioned them in passing and moved on. Maybe it was the editing?!

in the book, there are mentions of Firoz and Maan getting intimate as kids and Firoz being more devoted to Mann as adults, though nothing really happens other than that... about Lata's decision in the book i think Amit is in his own world and his family is quite nasty while Kabir is apparently seen with a girl ( which turns out to be incorrect) making Lata hate him for a while..eventually Lata had to marry Haresh from Praha show company because afterall Vikram Seth's mother Leila ( inspiration of Lata) marries his dad who was an executive at Bata :) Varun's arc is about being considered useless and meek, but he ends up doing better than his tyrant brother since he got through civil services ;)

Tanya as lata was the black sheep in the entire cast to me. I personally couldn't handle her lack of acting range she had in the series. On the other hand performances by Vijay, Ranvir, Ishan and majority of the other actors stole the stage. I totally agree with the dialogues feeling out of place, though can't blame anyone for that. This felt like a conversion of the book into a web series and not an adaptation by any sort. The only thing keeping this web series together was the story and the plot which are what they are thanks to the wonderful book they've been taken from. Over that, the ending felt like a wind-up and not a satisfactory finish. The ending would have worked as written prose but as a web series? it just did not. I had high expectations from Mira Nair. Binge watched the series all night and was utterly disappointed out of it. Never the less, I guess I will be revisiting this again in the future. (these are just my opinions on the show and obviously not a judgment. how I feel about the series might change as I give time and absorb it better. Though Tanya Maniktala (lata) and her effortless acting (literally effort-less) is something that will ruin the show even if I revisit it) Edit: typos

Mira nair's previous films like the namesake or Mississippi masala or reluctant fundamentalist was much better since it was realistic and not too dramatic so the language whether its all English or mix of English and hindi wasnt that obvious so that characters and acting are convincing. @@sanchitbhatt1800 bhai Tabu bhi uss he poster me hai. Jitne bhi lead role hai unme se ye he doo hai jo "established" faces hai. Toh logical point hai ki promotional material me unke he faces honge. Baki ya toh debut de rahe hai ya fir lead role me nahi hai.

Very well articulated and researched as usual. Well done. I reject and completely disagree about the religious and political references, obvious;y referencing your choices. Kindly keep them to yourself and out of your reviews. Religion and politics the 2 most personal and controversial agendas. Unless you’re out in the open and jumping on the Bollywood politics bandwagon.
