I haven’t been feeling connected to reading these past few months as much as I want to and it’s partly because I’ve been super slowly reading War and Peace. Even though i’m loving the experience, its 1300 pages have been weighing me down a bit. So I’m also excited to be revamping my reading soon.

I'm currently reading the fellowship of the ring and I love it so much. It allows me to forget the world around me with all my problems. Another safe space for me are the Poirot novels by Agatha Christie. Once I started a Poirot I can't put it down. A book I laughted so hard (even in public) was Fredrik Backman's anxious people.

Hi Emmie! I hope you can find a book that you can completely immerse yourself in and forget about the stress of school for a bit. I know exactly how you feel, I went into such a big reading slump in undergrad because I was overwhelmed with how much you have to read as a history and classics major, especially when you take 5 classes at a time. I have been trying to recover my absolute joy in reading something besides research for years, and I am finally back in the groove and feeling really happy. I have actually finished 12 books in the last 10 days. Thank you for being such a positive influence and I hope that your TBR can help you as well!

Dear Emmie! Please take care of yourself! Thank you so much for keeping uploading and sharing your wholesome and sweet TBR for the summer season. Recently I've started reading Legends&Lattes because of your mentioning this book. And I enjoy it actually! As someone, who adores strong, slightly intimidating but secretly sweet characters (especially women, oh my gosh), I love Viv! She just sounds like a comfort character to me, honestly. Don't know where my feelings will head after reading more of the book, but right now this is wholesome and cute. One thing that makes me feel kinda stressed and disappointed while reading is my reading speed. Uni has taken a lot of energy, so I couldn't read in a while. Your vids keep me going and reading, even if it seems hard to begin anew at first. Thank you for your effort, your personality and your passion towards reading! You're a gem🥺💘

Hi Emma! As a completely exhausted lit student who can't wait for exams to be over, I almost started crying when out of the blue you said "do you ever ask yourself why you read books?". It's probably because I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown too, also because I started laughing so much at the Freud moment. Thank you for always inspiring me to find joy and passion and reconnect with myself. Hope you can rest this summer and read books with no trauma -- just cheesy romance and a light head.

I red The Raven Boys recently and it provided me with so much comfort. It was everything I was looking for in a book, and got me out of a 2 month slump. It’s rare that I pick up sequels immediately after because I am a huge mood reader, but I picked up book 2 and 3 so fast (even though it does become SAD in book 2.)

@SlnieckoAnna
@SlnieckoAnna Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your videos! And for talking about times, when people just don't want to read emotionally and philosophically heavy books... I have seen this shift in the kind of books I gravitate towards during the years.. when I was younger I had mostly read classics, had watched a lot of sad movies (again, because these kind of movies had become classics)... And I probably would not be able to digest some of them nowadays (mostly due real life in my work). I need my books to be happy. Not always, but I simply need it in my books regularly... It's great that you are open about the fact that it is ok to unapologetically combine Classics and books just for fun. And comfort books are not inferior or less important. Reading should bring us joy... On the other note, I am really curious about your opinion about the Book of Disquiet! It is my second favourite book and my favourite classic. It actually got me from reading slump few years ago. It was the most perfect summer read, because no other book had ever been so introspective and chaotic and so personal to me... Really, really curious when you will pick it up... Thank you for your channel and all the recommendations!!

I've taken a look at my "favourite favourites" Goodreads bookshelf. I don't think our usual reading tastes align all that much (you gravitate towards darker stuff than I do), but when it comes to: - feel-good and intelligent, I'd recommend anything by Israeli humorist Ephraim Kishon - Giovannino Guareschi's "Don Camillo" is a personal favourite - a special kind of healthy, down-to-earth humour - children's classics such as "The Little Prince" or "Peter Pan" - Neil Gaiman's "Anansi Boys" made me laugh, as did "Neverwhere" - anything by T. Kingfisher - snarky dark fantasy, so you can chuckle (excellent banter, as well) - James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small" was an unexpected warm ball of joy - if you want something that is most likely outside your box - "Chasing a Croatian Girl" by Cody McClain Brown: it's a nonfiction travelogue/autobiography which is funny, accurate and warm Also, for a nice, simple, short kickstarter, I'd recommend "Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops" by Jen Campbell. Hope these recs help (guide you in the right direction, at least). ;) Enjoy! :)

Thank you for talking about how the classes affect you!! It made me realize I was experiencing basically the same stuff, I had a class on Czech literature from 1948 to today and like 90% of it was either about WW2 or the communist regime that was established in our country literally right after the war. Some of the books were actually horrifying, and we had to read like 50 books for that class. I also noticed my mental health plummeting lol but I didn't realize it was probably because of the stuff I was reading. But now that it's summer I find that I'm gravitating towards a lot of romances and fanfiction to like, balance my brain chemistry out lol

So her colleague asked her what's wrong. She said that she has no clue wich books to pick for her summer vacation, and asked her, what she would be reading. Her colleague looked at her totaly outraged and nearly yelled at her, that she would never read a book, because that would be a total waste of time and left the room. What's wrong with some people?
