As a younger man, I used to love my late night mountain bike rides home from friends through my small hometown. Some cold nights, no traffic to speak of, and so pleasing to the senses with a bright moon and sodium lighting. I like your higher horsepower huge city version, it filmed really well.

I have a 2000 FLSTC. I noticed when riding that the forks were turned slightly to the right. I checked the rear wheel alignment, which is making sure the distance from the axle center to the rear fork pivot are equal on both sides. That was spot on so I had to do a front end alignment. Which involves slightly loosening everything but the top tree pinch bolts, and with the front tire clamped in a support to hold the bike up straight, stand on the pegs and forcfully compress the forks several times. Then you tighten everything back up being careful not to twist the forks. This process allows the tubes to center themselves. So if you've bumped into something with the front tire and it's caused the trees to be knocked out of alignment with each other, they will move back into place. This procedure is not in my shop manual, but there are several videos for it on KZbin. And it worked great for me. The rear wheel can't be moved to straighten the front on a bike with a belt drive, like you can get away with a chain. I don't know if this might have caused the pully rail to pop off or not. I do know that it doesn't take a lot of continuous side load to pop one off. At least that's my experience maintaining high speed manufacturing machinery. Ride safe

I hear you about that cold! I need to get me some of those heated glove liners cause the past few days i have been riding in 20°-ish degree weather with just leather garden gloves. @@EarleeBrd the heated liners are a game changer, the 20’s is about as low as I ride in and I find myself sweating sometimes with how warm it can be 👍🏻 Yeah maybe cause I’m no professional but there are things you see in the real world that pictures or videos just can’t seem to convey, I guess that’s why we get out there and ride 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had a 2001 Springer and sometimes it rode like a pig but it was a great bike. l am wondering if it had a slight pull to the right though with the Springer the front end was always interesting. @@tta850Am hoping that you get to read this. I have done a lot of work on suspension and I actually am wondering if your front suspension is the problem with the alignment. There are so many variables with suspension that affect the handling and my gut feeling from watching the videos is that it may be an easily fixed front suspension issue. I have used linear springs with good results. Just a thought .🇦🇺🇦🇺👍

@ I can’t tell you how much I appreciate every comment, and how much I have learned from people commenting. So I’ve redone the front suspension after the crash, there’s gotta be some things I’ve missed and can’t help second guessing that I’ve missed something. All I know is something isn’t right and I’m going to keep looking till I figure it out! Thank you for taking the time to guide me in the right direction! 🙏

@@tta850Just a suggestion. I have used a moderately tight cable tie on each fork leg and sat on the bike and measured ‘sag’. I have also played with fork oil and adjustable internal gold valves which quicken or slow the oil flow between chambers. I mostly worked on ‘rice burners’ but found problems with American bikes. I owned a Buell Cyclone M2 which was almost perfect with suspension. I don’t think you have a real problem but I have noticed a very sharp ‘bounce back’ on the front of the bike when you did the sandwich ride. Personally I think it is a characteristic of the bike but the damping on the front is too sharp. Sometimes it simply can come down to tyre pressure. Hope this Aussie has helped a little.🇦🇺👍

Before I parked my '94 FLHTCU, I installed a trakula alignment kit. I never got as far as aligning the rear wheel, but was going to use 8' fluorescent light tubes to check/ align the rear wheel to the front. String is hard to use accurately with the rear tire being wider than the front. This might help give you a base line of where you are, and at least eliminate one possible reason. Another way though not as accurate, is the tool made with 1/8" metal rod and a 1/8" o-ring. If you have the factory manual, the tool's construction is in there. That will align the wheel to the swing arm at it's pivoting point. I used this for years, but wanted a way to align the assembly.

Hey buddy, the KZbin world put me in your space so I subscribed! I like the “ nighttime “ day time video, came out decent for a GoPro! These things are hard to get to film in low light. SOO my buddy bought an old Fatboy I think 96 also.. his was dropped by the previous owner so his left grip is turn in a little.. yours looks like your throttle side might be turned in .. your headlight looks like it’s facing straight.. so the issue might not be your tires.. I think if your rear wheel or transmission was off center your belt would show uneven wear.. stay well glad you made it home safely

i had the whole powertrain move on my 06 dyna after a crash. had to straighten/replace top motor mount linkage and both rubber motor mounts. im not sure about your case but its recommended to install the mounts loose, start the engine and let it idle, i had mine jacked up for this, 3 or so mins and shut it off, tighten all mounts. beyond that, its possible the swingarm got tweaked and/or the bearings/mounting point. im thinking its the motor mounts, if yours is a heim style joint like mine was, it may need straightening.
