I found this beautiful film after someone suggested 'Sing a Song for Yorkshire' as a poem for a proud Yorkshire friend's funeral. Wasn't Doreen so lovely!

I am very proud to say I am an amateur musician who took part in this, so to all those who have written lovely comments about the end result and/or the beauty of Yorkshire, thank you. Auditioning was nerve wracking, and arranging studio recording and filming for everyone involved must have been a nightmare for the people who organised everything. The few who choose to criticise this work, well that's your right, but it's a shame you haven't GOT what this was really all about.

Beautiful. It made me cry with happiness. I realise once again how beautiful Yorkshire is, from the streets of Hillsborough to the picturesque Abbeys and moors. Benjamin has a knack for being able to create something very special in his work. He unites diverse communities, boosts confidence & makes people feel proud & positive about their lives. Just look at all their faces, being part of this is special. Nevermind the BBC, Benjamin should be available on the NHS.

Moved from London to Yorkshire 25 years ago. I had no idea then that a place could be held so preciously in the heart. This piece is a moving tribute to Yorkshire as I know it: tradition and variety, beauty and grit hand-in-hand.

It's indeed a great piece of work. Although as a foreigner I have never been to Yorkshire, after watching this video I told myself I will definitely travel to UK again, to Yorkshire. and I have watched this video for more than 10 times. I love it very much!

"When I've done my roaming And when my step grows slow. When heart and mind assure me that it will soon be time to go, Then let me rest in Yorkshire. For it's there I want to lie. 'Neath the sun and the wind and the heather and a gleaming Yorkshire sky." Beautiful words that never fail to bring tear to my eye. RIP Doreen Vive le Yorkshire

The rapper you talk about was a joy to work with, and probably one of the most professional people we had in the recording studio. I think he did a grand job. The person who created the issues in the studio doesn't actually feature in the film because she didn't show up to the filming. We waited for her, called her... nothing. A real shame, because we turned down many talented singers to give her the chance.

To fuse together so many different musical styles into a cohesive, beautiful and moving elegy to Yorkshire is extraordinary enough. To then film it on such a grand scale (and I'm guessing on a tiny budget) represents a breathtaking achievement. The composer Ben Till has my huge respect and admiration, as does the production team behind it and all who took part. What next - a Symphony for Great Britain?

A a member of one of the acts involved in the project, I can confirm that much time and effort went into this. The whole point of this was to celebrate the people, culture and landscape of Yorkshire, creating a musical piece inspired by all the above - which is exactly what was achieved. Open auditions were held, so the final result is from the Yorkshire acts that were seen and naturally, there was a wide range of musical ability. Disappointing to see bigoted comments here, but not surprised.

Loved it for its celebration of al that makes up Yorkshire. I wish that Annie Hinchliffes Yorkshire Day Anthem composed and written in 1992 and played at the Yorkshire Society's Yorkshire Day Service every year since, could have been included somehow. It too is a celebration in simple words and a music of our beloved Yorkshire. Both pieces will live a long time.

I love this symphony for the famous broad acres of my beloved Yorkshire. Perhaps I missed it but I would have liked the symphony to include an element or phase that clearly acknowledged and celebrated the cultures of Yorkshire people of Asian descent - some bangla perhaps. Then it would have been quite perfect.

Oh and before the comments start, I'm from Doncaster originally, now live in Hull, which is part of the East Riding of Yorkshire. And with regards to the composer, it was always clear that he made sure this project was about the people of Yorkshire, not about him. However, you might be interested to find that he learnt and studied his craft in Yorkshire.

This video got 454.27 hits a day when released in 2010. It now gets 14 a day or less. I have no opinion either way regarding its artistic merits. I'm merely interested in the stats. The number of comments has reduced to about two or three per month. I know the BBC in Yorkshire originally said this was to be played every Yorkshire Day. The stats are open to interpretation. I think most works are played more when they first appear but should the annual repeating increase a work's popularity?

@tanyadawnify If Symphony for Great Britain is next on the cards then count me in. I watched his Tyne & Wear Metro musical and was gutted I wasn't involved. I am new to Ben's work but I'm with the ones who are saying "nice work". I liked the way so many diverse cultures were also represented in the Yorkshire symphony. Not sure what the language was they used at the start but it seemed to really fit very well. If this musical were being sold on Ebay, I'd give it the A++

Is it my imagination (because I'm Irish), or does the second movement seem to have a rather Irish theme? It reminds me of my beautiful niece, Catherine, who lived in Leeds for a time and whom I visited there 20 years ago, and who died last year at the age of 46...

@katasaifa It's not about political correctness at all. I also loved this wonderful symphony. It is my right as a free Yorkshireman to express my viewpoint without being castigated by someone who hasn't even met me. The Asian community in Yorkshire is large and strong. I would also like to inform you that Benjamin Till himself wanted to reflect Asian culture more obviously in the symphony as he kindly informed me by e-mail but sadly suitable response to the original advert didn't happen.

If Yorkshire had anyone capable of doing anything as brilliant as this, they wouldn't have had to go outside of the county to get the necessary composition and directing skills. I'm sure the BBC would have loved to have hired someone local but obviously the skills just don't exist in Yorkshire.
