As a balanced engine, Mhki, Ramsey and Iwobi allow more dynamic range in midfield than the 3 defensive midfielders. Also, Wenger's tiki-taka, which was there last season, is now swapped by Pirlo's style of holding the ball and long-range passes. Counter-attacking lone-dribbler finish, particularly by Pepe, is a huge let down as well.

Besides defending, I think a lot of fans overlook some parts as well. Arsenal's midfield organisation was bad and it didn't provide the correct structure to protect our backline. Because of that, Arsenal's defence was always exposed. I think Arteta's main task is to provide a good plan and structure to the team. He needs to fix how Arsenal presses the opponents as well. The team didn't press as a unit at all. Overall, I think Emery often overthinks about his opponents, the team was passing and pressing without purpose. These are the areas that Arteta has to address and I think he will definitely do well despite the fact that he lacks experience.

a major overhaul is needed. at least 5 season should be given with full support by the board (as many as they could afford). otherwise, it will took him 8-10 years just to rebuild Arsenal team... and who knows what the other team have become at that point.

Exactly. But the board need to communicate this to the fans. It'll help prevent toxicity and over expectation, just write this year off and get a 5 year plan on to develop a new culture, new philosophies and develop our young players into an Arsenal DNA.

That's not true. Emery had a better squad than at least 14 teams in the premier league but he was not able to utilize them effectively. He turned them into a lower to mid-table squad because of poor tactics. Trying to please everybody, being too cautious and not developing any consistency in the way the team played. Arteta will be able to get better from this squad of players. I do feel sorry for Emery, it was sad to see him on the touch line having lost self belief alongside his squad. Count Dracula (Emery) can not deal with big personalities, Count Dracula shouldn't ever be put in charge of a big club due to big clubs having big players and Dracula can not deal with big players. He couldn't manage Neymar well enough, he failed with Ozil along with other Arsenal players (Mkhi?). Dracula may do well for a low league club who has a load of idiots for players but big clubs like to get players who can think for themselves, Dracula removes the individual from the players in a team, he will kill any big club he joins. The point here is that Dracula doesn't encourage mental growth of players and big clubs do develop the mentality of their players. Imagine Dracula trying to tell Messi how to play football... That is the problem with Dracula. I do not mean an overview of tactics but Dracula likes to micromanage players, who honestly thinks a top player like Messi or Ronaldo would have put up with that greasy haired dracula? If you can not get the dressing room then you have failed. Emery failed to get and hold onto the dressing room. He should have been sacked at the end of his first failed season. Emery is a good coach and like all good coaches they tend to adapt to what they have at their disposal. Emery tried to find solutions to make the team more proactive with the ball, it just seemed as if he had no faith in the quality of players so he eventually ended up reverting back to the 3-5-2 he had a bit of success with the prior season, but by then it was too late. There has been positive signs with arteta so far, I have faith in his ability to get things right although it’s only been one game. Also, you criticized emery for swapping ozil in favor of torreira in the attacking midfield role when the reality is torreira never played there in 18/19 and only 3 times this season. The guy didn't know which players were good and which ones were bad. He would put some bad players on the pitch like Guendouzi, Lacazette, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka (though he's better now), Lichtenstein and Elneny. And he would not play Ramsey, Ozil and other talented and skilled players. Then in the UEL final he did the most stupid thing, which was to use Petr Cech instead of Bernd Leno as the GK. One of the most harebrained decisions I've ever seen in the history of finals. And in the new season, he didn't use Gabriel Martinelli as a regular first steam starter in PL games. I don't know why the board didn't sack him at the end of the last season. He was clearly out of his depth. He was dross. Just stupid. He had bad instincts for a manager.
@johnd89714 жыл бұрын
Ramsey became a critical cog for him towards the middle of last season once he figured out his value to the team when playing from deep.
@engespress4 жыл бұрын
@@johnd8971 Too late. If he had used Ramsey from the beginning as a first choice starter, they would have picked up at least 8 more points and gotten into the Champions League. I know they had an unbeaten run but they still lost points along the way and the first 8 games didn't go that well. But instead of Ramsey, Emery used Guendouzi as a semi-regular starter. And Guendouzi is not good enough for this league. Period. And he won't improve either. What you see is what you will get for the next 10 years. You can't polish a turd and make it a gemstone. And on top of that, he refused to play Ozil. His excuse was probably that Ozil doesn't press and run like the others, but that is a dumb reason. Ozil may not tackle like the others, but neither did Xhaka last season. Xhaka was supposed to be the main midfielder, controlling it and spraying passes to the others. But he wasn't good enough. He also didn't run enough, and he also didn't tackle back then, and that's why he would make mistakes that led to goals - in the Wolves game, other games. He doesn't have the skill in passing. It was OK when Ramsey was playing. But not enough when bad players were playing, like Guendouzi and Elneny, and when defenders got injured. Even though a club plays defensive, pressing and counterattacking football, a club still needs an Ozil, a player to make the critical pass, a player who can control the midfield. Even Real, under Mourinho, flourished with Ozil. They were the best team at that time in La Liga, and they scored 120 goals. Yes, Ozil was "lazy" and didn't defend or press like normal players do, but he has that unique ability to pick a pass, and create opportunities for scoring, something Xhaka does not have. Why should Ozil do the running and the tackling that he doesn't have to do to achieve the same result? And not only that, much is made of defending and controlling the midfield. Ozil, although not a holding midfielder like Xhaka and Jorginho, is a fantastic midfielder, who actually holds the ball when he gets it, through sheer skill in feinting, and knowing how to run, and how to pass the ball to others when pressed. He gets out of tight corners so well. He knows how to help the club keep the ball. There is no one who does this better than Ozil. He's better at doing this than Messi. So Chelsea have Kante - he tackles and passes well and is everywhere, and they have Jorginho (who I think is overrated), who distributes the passes from a static central position. Liverpool have Robertson and TAA to pick the critical passes to the forwards to create. But Ozil is as useful to Arsenal as these players and he performs a critical function as well of being expert at making key passes to the final third, something the other players are a little less good at (Kante and Jorginho). So, in other words, he can do the midfield work, using his skill to achieve the same effect. And he does tackle, but he does it a certain way, with skill, so people hardly notice it. He doesn't dive to tackle or do sliding tackles, he runs swiftly past, sticks out a leg, and recovers the ball. He is not physical at all but achieves the same result as a physical player. People don't even notice he's tackled someone because he dispossesses them so effortlessly. In other words, Emery was stupid not to use Ozil in most of his games. He used worse players in his place, and dropped points was the result. Too many were dropped and the club dropped out of the top four. And this year, Emery even went BACKWARDS. Because of Ozil's style of playing, keeping the ball in Arsenal's possession through quick and smart passing, they are able to control the midfield when he plays, and therefore create chances and make attacks (so Ozil does two important functions - help keep the possession high for the team and help craft chances for goals by picking a good final pass or making a key pass to a player in the final third), they are more likely to score when he's on the pitch. When he's off it, they aren't. See how the midfield fell to pieces after he was subbed off last game? And finally, he's good at setpieces. There is no one like him who can take corners so well. I think Arsenal scored from a corner that Ozil did last game. So Ozil is: 1/ Good as a midfielder, in an attacking (Wenger, Arteta) or defensive (Mourinho, Emery, when he was being defensive) team. He can control the passing in the midfield, help the team's possession stay high, he tackles but no one notices him doing it because his skill is so good. He knows how to elude the press, one of the best players in the world to do this. He can pick a pass in the midfield to keep the ball in play and moving forward. Although he doesn't dart around the field like Kante, Ozil knows where to show up. He is always in the center of play in the midfield. 2/ Good at creating. No one better than him in Arsenal. Not many better than him in the world. This includes key passes and assists. 3/ Decent at scoring. Not the best, but he has excellent decision-making. He doesn't care about his goals stats as some forwards do and greedily take all the shots. He'll pass to somebody else if they are in a better position. His assists stats are excellent as a result. 4/ He is skilled in taking free kicks and corners. He gets the occasional free kick in from outside the box too. For some reason, his crosses from the corner are converted more than most other corner takers. He is one of the best players in the world for this reason. And Emery didn't use him because he was upset that Ozil didn't run more or tackle players more. He should have realized that Ozil achieves the same results as De Bruyne but in his own way, using his own style of playing. Emery misunderstood Ozil and underused him. What other players achieve with brute force, Ozil achieves with skill. Ozil personifies brains. You have to pay a lot of money for this. Not many show the same skill that Ozil has. That's why Germany won the WC 7-2, and why Real scored 121 goals in Mourinho's second year and won the league with 100 points. Ozil makes and breaks records and wins major silverware. Already Arsenal won 3 FA Cups with Ozil. Spurs have Harry Kane. How many cups have they won during his five years at the club? Arsenal as a team aren't good enough to win titles. But they are good enough to win cups. With Ramsey and Ozil (and with Sanchez to a certain extent), they SHOULD have won cups, and they did. If Arteta is smart, he won't make the same mistake as Emery did.
@johnd89714 жыл бұрын
@@engespress I dont disagree on Rfamsey, but once Emery did start playing him from CM he did become the critical player. I dont agree on Ozil - having watched every game he's played for us I dont think he brings enough to the table. I acknowledge he's a great passer, has great vision, and is a great 10, but we dont have room for passengers, and thats exactly what he is for vast periods of games. Auba is probably the only passenger we can tolerate. We are not good enough at CM or in defense to allow a passenger furtehr up-field in the central position. I also dont agree that Lacazette is a bad player. I woudl agree that he shoudl be the first name on the team sheet. He does it all - not only is he a good striker, he can hold the ball up, he can tackle, he can create and dribble, and he's strong. Arsenal are much better when he's on the field - much more so than any other player (Ramsey and Kosielny aside, which is no longer possible anyway). There's a reason he was Arsenals player of the season last year - because his impact was clear). Happy new year to you.

@HenSt-gz7qj4 жыл бұрын
Feel like when Torreira and Guendouzi are played as 2 CDMs, they perform better. Because Torreira will stay back while Guendouzi will be the mobile DM and link with the back line. But with Xhaka sitting in that sole DM role, Guendouzi and Torreira are mostly out of position. I think Arsenal should stick with 2 CDM for now, because that back line will need support from the mid most of the time.

Someone needs to carry the ball forward. Torreria played a more advanced role earlier in his career and shoudl be familiar with the b2b role.

I feel bad for Emery. He was given one of the worst Arsenal teams we've had to work with and denied his players to make his style work. It was rumoured he wanted Maguire to play out from the back, Partey to add strength in the midfield and Zaha for the high press up the pitch but instead ended up with Luiz, Torreira and Pepe. How can a a manager implement his style when he's getting B-tech options to his 1st choices? It's a shambles from the board. They've left us in a mess and I don't see Arteta being the man to fix it. If anything, I think he'll turn out to be another yes-man for the board to control.

We need to create a "Champion Team" that is a team in which the players have good understanding and coordination with each other, thus making the team perform at its best and not "Team of Champions" where all are highly skilled individuals who perform in silos and may lack the coordination with each other...rest of the tactics can be followed ..most importantly to create a winning attitude i.e. the most difficult tactic to be passed everyday to all!! Please suggest if Arteta will be successful in this...forget the trophies for now😜

Tactics? The players were/are not good enough. No tactics can save this squad of players, hence Arteta having only 2 shots on target in his first game in charge.
@huzefa53944 жыл бұрын
I would disagree. Arsenal played way better and created more chances in that game. They just couldn't finish those chances.

Huzefa it’s easy to turn up and play when u have a new manager in charge, my point is that the squad is riddled with sub par players and they’re all not good enough

How is Xhaka "good on the ball"? Torreira is more comfortable and doesn't lose the ball as much.

I realize not wrong from unai emery side.....sacking him is a mistakes. Arsenal palyers some of them were deform . whoever will be the manager will always face this problem with the team untill new players ware added in the club and get rid of the weakers player's then the club will be back in shape.

When you deploy a player with poor distribution as Xhaka as the midfield ‘pivot’. You deserve the sack. This team is desperately short of quality footballers.
