You literally had two of the best anti-stress characters in the game with jester and man at arms lol, you should try to focus on reducing stress with them, you'll see it helps soooo much (less stress = less meltdowns, less negative banter between characters, less negative relationships etc etc)

From just what I've seen in the video: it shows as a separate unit to the main boss, and it's vines growing down. My first thought is "you have to hit the root to stave off the looming plant death (which the boss seems to have fallen prey to)". Could have been a soft timer on the fight, but being targetable makes the former more likely to me

In fairness the dreaming general is considered the hardest of the lair bosses so good job getting through it. Barristan's damage is mediocre at best if you want a damage front line then hellion is the pick. Defend and bolster though are s-tier abilities and you should upgrade and use them whenever you can

Really? I had a much harder time with the Harvest Child and the Fish. I barely even got a chance to ACT in the fish fight. I WAS one man down when the fight started, but I think that was the boss I died most rapidly on. I've managed to beat the General once and usually come fairly close even when I lose, but the only one I can consistently kill is the Librarian.

The trick with the General is to use skills like Plague Grenade that hit ranks 3 and 4. Hitting rank 4, the Tap Root, will cause the vines to recede from one hero, but also enable a special attack once the Root's been hit thrice. And if it also hits rank 3 you're not sacrificing as much damage against the boss.

YESSS finally more long-form video Poggers! I would have loved to see more time taken to go through the details for all the different relics and loot drops, some of my favorite parts of these games is exactly the main part that got skipped or edited out in these videos. The character building and gearing, all the stuff you do in town, the reasoning and walkthrough of why you're putting this piece of gear on this person, or why you aren't doing it for that other character. Tom often does it so naturally just while talking through his process, he's comes across as a very strategic minded person and I think I also speak for many others when I saw that's the sort of stuff we looovvee. I'd still be happy to watch this video if it was twice this length!! I know you were unsure for the uncut creeperworld video, but I feel games like this are MUCH better suited to that style of video. Let us see it all please sir!! Either way, great video as usual, really enjoyed it, and here's hoping to future episodes of DD2, and we'll as other long-form videos of other games!! ❤❤❤

If you're into this type of gameplay, Battlechasers: Nightwar is a pretty underrated game cut of a similar cloth, maybe a little closer to traditional Japanese RPGs. The art style isn't all that similar to this, although it's amazing in its own right, and the campaign is pretty substantial, maybe you'll get a kick out of it.

@sweatilaa5325
@sweatilaa5325 Жыл бұрын
The main thing Tom, and many other who play both Darkest Dungeon 1 and 2, does wrong is reactive play instead of proactive play. Reactive play will put you at a disadvantage since you aren't really the one taking initiative, but with proactive play you think not only about the current fight but the upcoming fights awaiting in the dungeon and how you can put yourself in the best position possible for that. A prime example of reactive play is spreading your damage between multiple enemies and/or leaving enemies on low health but not finishing them off, tricking yourself that it will be more worth to attack that other enemy for higher damage instead. Usually this leads to you taking unnecessary damage forcing you to heal instead of dealing damage and makes the fight last longer, and you do not want the fight to last longer. That and learning how to prioritize targets is two of the most important things in this game I find :) When it comes to party composition, try and get someone who heals health and someone who heals sanity, this means that plague doctor and jester is never a bad choice. Then consider front line tank and who will hide like a coward behind your front line tank, they need to compliment each other a bit. I try to get someone who can stun and take a lot of damage up front and a coward with high damage that can easily finish off people. My personal favorite character is the leaper, such a lad! Don't let people trick you into thinking he is bad, he is really good and can basically take care of himself.
@weezact7
@weezact7 Жыл бұрын
Of course, you have to actually USE your stress healing abilities. Personally, I would have burned down 3 of the four bandits or zombies and then just kept popping my Bolster and jester's tune to get that stress down for a few rounds. Sure, Barristan would take some damage, but he'd be fine. He'd heal on the road.

Now that it's fully out I do plan to give it another go but I do think Darkest Dungeon 2 lost a lot of the charm of DD1, I know it's a very different game but some of the changes just don't feel as good, and it feels more ruthless than the original which is kinda wild. (The devs nerfing/removing good strategies in an already hard game really soured me to some of DD2 during ea) I'm glad you seemed to enjoy it though.

It's interesting to see him describe the first one as grindier. I felt the opposite. While the first one DOES get grindy near the end, there is a constant progress, whereas with games like DD2 it's largely up to luck if your run gets you any closer to any goal you want to achieve or if it's just a bunch of wasted time ending in disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the second game, but I can't play it for prolonged periods of time like I could the first one, because after 3 or 4 runs where I just fucking die halfway through, the whole thing feels really pointless.

I LOVE the style of these games. The atmosphere is fantastic. The writing and voice acting are great. But I never had FUN playing the first one. Like...not once that I can remember. The first one never felt fair. And that's a big problem. I'd go as far as to say it's bad design. Losing a run to something unlucky is totally fine. I play PLENTY of CDDA, Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, and rogue likes/lites. Learning a game so you can play it well is good. Being able to recover from bad luck by playing well is fun. But having to play well AND get lucky just to progress? No. That's a sign that your game is poorly balanced. If I HAVE to get lucky to win, then I don't need to learn. I just need to grind away at it until it happens and HOPE the losses are interesting. NOTE: I don't think I actually realized WHY I wasn't having fun with DD1 until I was halfway through this post.

to me it was the opposite lol; disliked DD2 but feel in love with DD1; having the odds against you and managing to surpass them with some planing and not being greedy, luck plays a lot in both games but DD1 no safety checks like DD2 so its certainly not for everyone; not to say i love the pain, i really dont, rage-quited at least twice for months. But not much of dd2 has grabbed my interest, it feels both less unique and with almost 0 punishment for misplaying, sure some mechanics i would LOVE having in dd1 like the 3d models, tokens, stagecoach carry capacity and the mid map stop's to trade, rest and train but thats about it, characters having a little bit of everything really made then too homogenized and the slay the spire map too linear and boring. DD1 was a dungeon crawler with resource management more than anything else, which compared to DD2 pure roguelike makes a lot of why people would like one but not the other. they are sequel/prequel of each other in story only, gameplay wise its water and oil.

I really wish they would have saved this game type for something else. The original game play for Darkest was just too different to consider this a sequel
@matheusbianquincera3104
@matheusbianquincera3104 Жыл бұрын
i consider both games as their own thing rather than sequel/prequel of each other, while the imagery is the same the gameplay is far too different. DD1 is a dungeon crawl with resource management while DD2 is a roguelike. maybe DD3 will be a return to the DD1 roots while also bringing the good bits of DD2 too. they were probably too scared of making something too similar to DD1 and get it called a cheap re-release/money grab/"overwatch 2", which considering how gigantic the modding community and their projects got in DD1 and how up they pushed the bar for a sequel is not that unbelivable
