Since I started studying metabolism a couple of months ago my intuition was that fat storage was an evolutionary response to scarcity of meat. I’ve been asking on various channels but this is the first time I’ve confirmed it with this excellent and thorough explanation. This Doctor is now in my top 5 along with Dr. Bikman.

Fat storage serves more than just the purpose of preparing for times of food scarcity. It also plays a crucial role during illness or injury, providing energy when the body may need it most for recovery and healing.

It's always best to avoid consuming any type of sugar, it's hard to quit because it's an addiction. It took me almost two months to quit sugar, but the benefits are many. I lost 15 lbs, cleared up my skin, and slept way better, dandruff gone clear mind

Agree, great presentation. I’m learning a lot! The fear is if I start eating sweets, even allulose, I’ll consume more food? … because I love sweets. I better stay out of that. Doing low carb for a year by now, no refined sugars, forgot what it taste like 😃 And I totally believe in cognitive health improvement with no sugars in my diet!

The Caloric Baseline used in the Minnesota Starvation experiment in WW2 was based on studies in the 1920’s & 1930’s. An average American Male was 5’6” and weighed 143#. Their average caloric intake was 3500 per day. Higher activity and being outdoors in the winter required more calories. The US Army determined men needed 8-10k if living outside in the winter to maintain weight.

Carbs also block Vitamin C. It's been found that carnivores requirements for Vitamin C are met by the tiny amounts in meat since its not being blocked by carbs.

Very compelling information in the first 75% of the presentation. So I’m thumbing this up 👍🏽 And then he starts to sell another sugar substitute. My last sugar substitute (which I’ve used for 20+ years) was Stevia. The non-commercial slightly bitter stevia. They said it was “natural.” Until I eliminated it. It still causes a desire for sweet. And that desire is longer lived than one might think. I can’t imagine yet another “miracle” sweetener is going to prove beneficial long term for anyone who is of addicted behavioral patterns, which is probably 95% of the American population. I believe eating as if all of these processed, GMO, non-foods, hybridized grains, fruits and vegetation did not exist the way it was 150+ years ago, is the way. But I’m sure I’ll have a piece of cake (that I’ll make at home) on my birthday. Everybody’s looking for something to fill in the hole. Discipline equals Freedom.

I started very low carb and now using Allulose because of early onset dementia and immune neuro Sjogern's. The tale of '2 sugars' is the name of the talk. Nothing surprising that he would tell us about both? I am finding it so mush easier using the Allulose and now I know why. Im so glad I got to hear this. My immune issue stole my hearing and balance. Very discouraging to wake in the night deaf in one ear and lose 30% in the other and walking into walls. This happened 11 years ago at age 52. Im taking matters into my on hands now. We all take our own path. I hope yours goes well. Science is Great!

He's not really promoting the allulose for sugar replacement though, he's saying it's a GLP-1 agonist like Ozempic. For those trying to lose weight this is a low cost, low side effect substitute.

Thanks Dave. I respect him disclosing he works for a company making a Fructose substitute. I am not sure I agree with making a “ food “ that substitutes for fructose and uses human addiction as a marketing method.

Thank you for mentioning that - sadly I don't think many will notice. The issue, in my opinion is not 'fructose' per se, but perhaps the quantity/form in which it has been consumed. i.e HFCS which is in almost all processed foods and all drinks now. I am always skeptical of someone who is pushing a product and has financial gain associated with clinging to a theory of one substance being responsible all disease. I'm not convinced fructose is the problem. I do know that eating another processed chemical , or trying to manipulate nature is not the answer.

Yeah, it does not help him to go around overweight with his message, however I notice few of the keto or carnivore people are a good weight. Many are still overweight.

Now please someone compare keto and a high carb diet where fructose replaced with allulose. And then compare keto and keto with allulose. ... And what about the sweet taste? Doesn't the sweet taste (even in the absence carbs) provokes insulin secretion? ... So allulose is naturally present in some fruit in small amounts along with glucose and fructose. Shall we consider a pure, extracted allulose as a highly processed food? ... Allulose? No, thanx, I'll stick with real low carb food.

Low carb low sugar, high protein/fat diet keeps you trim. Sugar and carbs are a secondary energy source.

​@@hikerJohn simply tasting "sweet" causes an insulin response. It's been measured by people tasting something sweet and then spitting it out. Simply expecting sugar in the system is enough to provoke this response.

Check your visceral fat with an MRI, see Dr Sean O’Mara’s work. You can appear thin and have dangerous visceral fat which what this presenter is not making clear. Subcutaneous fat is healthier, Visceral deadly.

The issue for allulose is that it doesn't encourage lower overall consumption. So people will tend to continue to over eat even if fructose is reduced. Not good for them or the planet. This is likely why weight loss using alulose is inconsistent. Just ditch the starchy carbs and sugars.

I found that I had to completely detrain my sweet tooth, so no sweeteners even if they have little to no calories. My sense of taste adjusted quickly and now anything sweetened tastes gross.

So if increased uric acid is the primary driver here, would the detrimental effect be similar from consuming high protein? 🤔

Most meat doesn't really increase uric acid. The main problems are fructose and alcohol. And then goes the break down of food containing high levels of purine which are shellfish like oysters and sardines and organs like liver and spleen. Another pathway is excessive breakdown of our own muscle tissue which happens when we do intense resistance training. There is an initial period when the body is transitioning from sugar burning to ketone burning where the kidneys reduces the excretion of uric acid in favor of ketones, but that's corrected when the ketone metabolism upregulates (that's why the urine ketone strips stop working when a person becomes adapted to use ketones). So people with gout should use uric acid reducing drugs like allopurinol when they are starting a keto diet, but then can stop using it after a couple of weeks

If you drink a lot of alcohol or fructose and eat a lot of lean meat, yes. Without drinking or fructose, just red meat, then no.

Labelling nutrients in isolation as either the new poison or the new superfood, is just wrong, to me. The grams of fructose in a whole fruit, are not equal to the grams of fructose in a highly processed fruit juice that contains no pulp, even though they are equal in mass. Your body processes them differently. Fructose is believed to be harmful compared to what? A piece of cheesecake? A slice of pizza having a lot of nutrient and fiber free white flour?

@dan-qe1tb …. There is not such thing as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ fructose or carbs… in the bloodstream the process is the same. The dose makes the poison…. High volumes of fructose whether from HFCS or apples is the problem… not the source…. Over time fruit has become sweeter, which means higher loads of fructose as fructose is sweeter than glucose…. Your comparison is specious.

Dr. Robert Lustig mentioned that anything tastes sweet will raise insulin levels, so Allulose should be taken in moderation ...

Hi, for me it is a bit like the chicken and egg question. Take a normal weight individual who eats ( = energy intake in calories) according to his activities (= calories burned) and who eats high glycemic foods. Does this individual convert glucose into fructose ? Why would that be happening ? All the calories that this individual takes in are used to fuel his activities. I assume (= this is my hypothesis) that this conversion happens with excess glucose in individuals who are already overweight or obese. Is it not exactly like Dr. Johnson pointed out in the beginning that we ate more and decreased our activity level ? Look at the all the 7/11 stores in the world. A 100 gram bag of gummibears has 540 calories. A bag of mixed nuts (85 grams) has 700 to 800 calories. A large latte at starbucks has 300 calories. A chocolate chip cookie has 310 calories. And you don't even have to get out of your car as you can use the drive through to get your 610 calories snack. It is very easy to overconsume food. Does this not explain a lot ?

Even though it’s all interesting most of his sources are animal studies. it’s all indicative at most and warrants extra research but so far hasn’t been proven in humans.

Because most humans, especially healthy humans will not agree to be locked in a room for 20 years for a long term RCT. That is what is needed. Also for "ethical" reasons they can't test on humans. This is why there are no actual studies proving that smoking causes cancer. Not allowed. Here in South America we use prisoners who volunteer as they live better and make money on the study while in prison. The US, UK, Canada,...all face a lot of legal troubles and law suits while performing studies. This is why the USA pays China to do the Vaxx and "Virus" testing. Out of sight and out of the hands of lawyers. Lawyers who go after the Chinese royal family don't live long.

What about athletes . . . ??? How do they overcome the loss of ATP from sugar? Athletes are insulin resistant when exercising but that's on purpose so that blood sugar increases so it's available for muscles. Lipids also cause insulin resistance while exercising (distance running)

Athletes have highly developed muscles that gobble up the glucose, so their liver doesn't suffer as much. But as Prof Tim Noakes has shown, many carb loading athletes start developing insulin resistance when they reach middle age and many develop diabetes, like he did even though he was a marathon runner because they are consuming too many carbs. Also it will be better for athletes to use starches instead of sugary drinks since glucose can be easily absorbed by their muscles, but fructose can only de metabolized by their livers. Also they should eat their starches with protein and fat, so their digestion is slowed down and their blood glucose doesn't spike, turning on the polyol pathway that converts glucose into fructose

If a carnivore athlete calculates the expected caloric requirement for an activity and then consumes that amount of carbohydrates, then all "should" be fine. From antedotal experience, during the activity, the blood glucose does not seems to rise much. As soon as you stop, if there is still glucose available, the levels bounce up. Ideally, it seems beneficial to consume glucose right before activity, to provide quick energy, but have it taper off by the end so as to not spike blood glucose at the end. At least this seems to be the case for myself. Your milage may vary.

It drops your insulin and has an appetite suppressant effect. BEN Bikman uses it. I also use it while fasting.

Paul could have stayed on carnivore with some salt. I use pickle juice. And eat a pickle a day. But I’m low carb high fiber not carnivore.

Is it made from GMO corn and is that significant? Is it banned in other countries and why is it thought to contribute to cancer? Lastly, I use it in the protein sparing bread recipe I make, because the crust won't brown without sugar, but I don't use it otherwise because I got a UTI when I was using it more frequently, and I think I read somewhere it can feed the bacteria in your bladder.

Obesity is primarily linked to processed foods and environmental toxins. Fructose from natural-unprocessed, whole foods is not responsible for obesity. In contrast, high fructose corn syrup in processed foods plays a significant role in contributing to obesity. It’s important to distinguish between these sources of fructose. Moreover, despite a decline in sugar consumption over recent decades, obesity rates have continued to increase. Given that sugar is 50% fructose, I find it hard to believe that fructose from whole, unprocessed foods is responsible for driving metabolic disease/obesity.

Hmnm. Liver converts Glucose to Fructose. But why? Every cell can use glucose. What possible reason body makes fructose from glucose? Usually excess glucose gets converted to Fat by lnsulin signaling. Did Dr. J say insulin resistance? Glucose to VLDL I've heard before.

We really need more studies on this but it looks like 7g twice a day in a drink after meals is a good place to start. 25:14 I am going to be trying it while fasting.

So if I'm dropping ATP, does it also drop ATP production in the mitochondrial? If so, wouldn't you uncouple ox-phos, producing a di-nitrophenol, hyperthyroid effect (especially excess T2) and massive weight loss? I don't understand.

I use allulose. Last night I over did it. Over 30 grams. Dipping strawberries into it.. It gave me a MONSTER headache. I did not get gastro issues. Just don't overdo it and you'll be fine. It's perfectly good.

This may well turn out to be Nobel Prize level research. My Uric Acid has fallen from gout producing levels to below the normal range in a few months. I have more energy and NO fucking inflammation anywhere in the bodyThat much can be demonstrated. Hi Stan. Full disclosure, I'm honestly not that active on KZbin save posting our conference videos (but this will change soon). I haven't deleted any comments on this video or any others, so I assumed they must have been automatically held "in review" by YT, but I don't see your comment there either. I suspect it might be due to having links...? That's happened to me before when commenting on other channels, so I leave the links off. See if you can reply me here with your original comment -- maybe it will work if I've interacted directly.

No significant effects were found when fructose or HFCS was substituted for glucose, except for a slight decrease in diastolic blood pressure when fructose was substituted for glucose. Similarly, no effects were found when fructose or HFCS was substituted for sucrose

Conclusions: Strong evidence exists that substituting fructose for glucose or sucrose in food or beverages lowers peak postprandial blood glucose and insulin concentrations. Isoenergetic replacement does not result in a substantial increase in blood triglyceride concentrations.

Yes. Nature designed it that way. We gorge in summer on fruit, get fat, develop IR so we can go into winter and eat animals to survive. We burn off the fat in the cold and scarce food. Today, it's a problem because we eat fruit all year round, don't eat only meat in the winter or ever, and don't suffer exposure, as well as exercise constantly. We need to live and eat like it's 200,000 years ago. Let them keep their grain. Raw dairy is optional. Europeans are fine with it, but it was a survival food. It doesn't work for everyone.

While Dr. Rick Johnson is 'not' trying hard to promote Allulose, I wonder under how big of a rock he will be crawling when in a few years a new study comes out showing Allulose correlation to heart attacks.😂

I wonder what Dr Lustig would say about the claim that the body makes fructose out of glucose. What he told about his overwhelmingly successful research with the obese kids says something different.

He would say the dose makes the poison, the body will only make the fructose from the sucrose that it made from glucose. It's a limited multi step pathway, it won't convert toxic levels.

I done target keto too, whole life fat Aš endomorph, i got ripped but i never count calories when i Ate zero carbs from day 1 to day 2 yes bídy reacts but this Is hardcore restriction,Develop minerál nutrition deficience And so on , IT was not suistable fór working man !!!, muscles needs glucose, So in back on carbs with Belly And obese, Belly Is symptom of carbohydrates rich diet.

Too bad he is pushing a processed product via fructose fear porn, rather than suggested the more rational approach. of avoiding processed fructose in the excessive quantities being used now - i.e HFCS in all processed foods and beverages. We do not consume pure fructose like they use in many experiments. We don't consume fructose in isolation.

Excess Carbohydrates are converted into fat. But if you burn the carbohydrates, they would not convert to fat. Excess glucose also converts to fat.

This is so bad it's not even funny. Depending on what else the fruit has, it will have different effects. Fiber and polyphenols will blunt the fructose effects and will actually make you healthy. Also getting fat from fruits+nuts is a way different beast then getting fat from mcdonalds and juice, fat will store nutrients and/or toxins. Not to mention that i'm talking about fruit that hasn't been modified like berries, not the sugar bombs that are bananas or watermelons. Also glycine seems to blunt the fructose effect but hey..the man needs to sell some allulose cuz dumbasses will think he knows what he's talking about. There are plenty of overweight people with good metabolic system and skinny people with insulin resistance

Dr. Lustig has stated he does not do low carb as a way of eating. In fact on of his projects is to make highly processed foods less harmful. I don't know how Dr. Johnson eats but I also don't know how big his belly was a year or two ago either. Most of our bodies don't match our knowledge as in general we had damage before knowledge.

@@CP59FIT The effects of a low carb diet were extremely rapid for me. Maybe not all people respond so strongly but I lost 50 lbs so far, down from 255 lbs to 205, within months. Used to have a belly and was getting quite chubby, now I can almost see my abs. It is so easy to do that you would think anyone who knows a lot about it would not allow themselves to have a belly.

I have a belly even on ketovore. At first I successfully got less belly while eating 900-1000 calories daily, but it was not very healthy. So now I eat 1600 calories, and I got it all back while maintaining weight. Something got wrong long ago, or it's genetics.
