An Indian army officer in the 80s who participated in the peace-keeping mission in Sri Lanka had written that they often came across remarkably innovative engineering improvements made by the Tigers on their weapons, armaments and telecommunication equipment. He believed that one of the reasons was that there were many young men with engineering or technical backgrounds to be found among the ranks of the Tamil insurgents. In the 80s, they were probably the most educated rebel movement in South Asia, and that often led to their success up to a point.

@@gayannadeera2055 if US supported LTTE why did US ban LTTE and internationally? Why did US break the arms purchase link of LTTE? US sent it's officials to enable a ceasefire to human corridor to evacuate civillians trapped in war zone, their proposal was to send a ship to mullaithivu to evacuate civillians and drop them at trincomalee to the SL gevernment. Not stop the war entirely. Any other thing that i would say would never be accepted by you. So one logical question, if actually US supported LTTE as you claim, do you sincerely think SL stands a chance to win against US backed LTTE ? The first move would have been an econimic ban on SL which would have been solely enough to cripple the country. By the way SL is the only country that can accuse it's helpers as foes, since "LTTE are defeated and you are safe and alive" why don't SL declare US as its foe since it helped LTTE?

@4:53 As an Tamil Eelam Tamil, I really appreciate your article and your video on the Tamil Tigers Tank which we Eelam Tamils simply call the 'Composite Tank - ஒருங்குசேர் தகரி', as it was made from various parts of different armoured vehicles. My second point is, The second Tank was not knocked out by the Sri Lankan AF. It was already damaged, but was in a movable condition, as it was hit by a Tiger's RPG in the same battle and was pulled back by SL Armoured Corps. After overrunning the Pooneryn base, Tamil Tigers were able to capture both the T-55 Tanks. As one of the tanks was in a good state, they seized it and destroyed the other which was in a damaged state on the second day after overrunning the Pooneryn base - 12th Nov 1993. They even recorded that destruction scene in video (The damaged tank was brought to an open field by driving and then being bombed by the Tigers) and we Tamils still preserve that video, as it's the first memorable Tank captured moment by the Tamils. As the SL govt. could not believe that more than 800 of their troops were wiped out in a single-day battle and the Tigers captured a large haul of weapons and ammunition, they fabricated this knock-out story to tell their Sinhala people that they managed destroyed some of the captured weapons. In conclusion, I would like to ask you to get your facts right about the Eelam Wars' battles and don't twist the recorded history which you have no idea about. (I'm not going to ask you to change the word 'terrorist', a word game, which you wont accept but at least don't twist the recorded battle history. Just talk only about your content. i.e. Composite Tank or whatever you call it.)

The captured T-55 was commandeered initially by a senior LTTE colonel (col. Kittu i think , not sure who it was exactly), and it was deployed to attack sl navy's dwora boats! Yes, LTTE would place baits in the sea close to the shore, when the sl navy boats come to attack the bait targets the tank which would be waiting hidden in the coast would fire at them with its 100mm main gun, LTTE successfully struck several navy boats like this until the navy learnt later that these were traps and withdrew sending dworas to such attacks. The same tank was also used as artillery to hit sl army base at trincomale when LTTE infantry attacked it. I don't know about the crew or further actions and command related to the T55. All the above info were gathered from other KZbin channels. Even srilankan media announced that "the LTTE had successfully deployed the captured T-55 and had used it powerful 100mm gun very effectively against the state's armed forces, inflicting considerable damage with a single captured MBT until it was abandoned" LTTE also used modified bulldozers, tractors against sl army as armoured platforms for infiltration attacks and as mobile cover for infantry. Some of them are placed as exhibits in war museums even now LTTE made innovations in naval and air warfare as well ( I'm not mentioning them here since this is a 'tank' channel) Thank you for this awesome video focussing on a war that ended 13 years ago. My kind suggestion is : if you are mentioning about an army or an insurgent group please don't call them as terrorists or as "the bad guys", call them by their name, since we only speak the technical aspects and not politics, so let's not take a stance here.

The Tamil Tigers were freedom fighters who fought against the terrorism of the Sinhalese government and the Tamil genocide of Sri Lanka. But they do not get the support of the world nations for the sole reason that they are an armed non-governmental organization. Using their own skills and local resources, the weapons they created were amazing.

Some briefed info about the conflict : - It was due to lack of understanding, poor political experience, and short sighted decisions from both parties. - LTTE first started because of the leftist teachings in the north around 50's 60's. However instead of resorting to communism, or socialism, there was a rise of Nationalism among tamils. - This kind of similar Nationalism uprising happened among Sinhalese on 50's and 60's as well, due to same leftist teachings. - So obviously Conflict arose first as protest , and it became a series of escalations till a Famous Tamil person who was a Moderate (was not nationalist) got shot by LTTE member. - Then the attack on the Army patrol. - This started the War, Note that at this time Sri Lanka did not have much of an Army to spare and was stretched pretty thin, and a Sinhalese uprising happened on the South as well, so had to tend to that as well. So the Army with the lack of personal, and especially new recruits ended up escalating the conflict as well. - Then India at that time used LTTE as a method for expansionism. And funded and trained them. - Later India sent troops on the pre-text of 'aiding' Sri Lanka. - Because of that Sri Lanka started underhand dealings with LTTE and funded them. - This fundings from both parties backfired to Both parties. LTTE ended sending suicide bombers both to Indian VIP's and Sri Lankan VIP's. Killing two Notables - Hon R. Premadasa(SL), and of Gandhi family(India). - This lead to mutual peace and understanding between India and SL. - SL sought peace with LTTE around 2001, however they still carried out assassinations and the mentioned incident of cutting water supplies in Eastern province. - War re-started in 2004 and ended in 2008 with LTTE leaders annihilated. As you see like in most cases, War is complex. No point on arguing who won because everyone, Tamils and Sinhalese lost. Wish both Tamil and Sinhalese, Indian leaders had more political foresight, knowledge back then. There still much to be done to build the trust, learn lessons, and give resolution to families that lost their loved or gone missing, or faced crimes.

The above ones are written by a Sinhala govt supporter who appreciated the Tamil Genocide and has given a distorted version of the real history to blame Tamils for everything. The points which he has sorted are just blatant lies and are the vomits that the Sri Lankan govt still airs through their media against the Tamil people. (I kindly request the readers to google the words which I have listed inside the quotations.) 1) No, it was not due to the lack of understanding or whatever lies he has listed out. The war started due to the "Sinhala Chauvinism" because of its "Mahavamsa Mentality" which still prevails with them. 2) No, it was not the LTTE rather it was Sinhalese who started the massacres. "LTTE" was formed in 1976 (large attacks began on 1983 only), not in the 50s or 60s. The first Sinhala govt organized massacre against Tamils was in 1956 ("1956 anti-Tamil pogrom"), later it continued till 1983 ("1958 anti-Tamil pogrom", "1977 anti-Tamil pogrom", "1981 anti-Tamil pogrom" - where the Jaffna Library was burnt by Sinhalese) where a large govt organized and premeditated pogrom ("Black July") started and lasted for 7 days. In this alone, more than 3000 Tamils were killed/raped/or burned alive. Until 1977 Tamils were using Non-violence (aka Gandhian strategy) as a method to retaliate which doesn't speak/stop the violent Sinhalese massacres but rather increased day by day. After 1983 Tamils started to fight back with arms to resist against Sinhalese massacres and colonization of Tamils' homeland which continues till today. Yes, in the 1970s as Tamils could not live side by side with the Sinhalese, who hunted them like animals, they started Nationalism to form a homeland to have a prosperous life for their future generations to come and to escape the ongoing massacres. 3) yes 4) Yes, but "Alfred Duraiappah" was responsible for "the 1974 Tamil conference massacre". He was a Sinhala govt collaborator and not a moderate. Don't hide the truth. 5) yes 6) Yes, they don't have an army to spare but they had an army to safeguard the colonies in Tamil Eelam, where the Sinhala thugs from southern SL were brought to settle in Tamil homelands. 7) Yes, but Tigers soon realized this and doesn't fall into that trap. 8) Yes, the Tigers bravely fought back against the 100k Indians from 1987-1990 killing 1,200 and wounding another 6000+. The Tigers' side martyrs were only 640. 9) Yes 10) Yes 11) Yes, 12) SL sought peace with LTTE because the military power balance increased with the Tamil Tigers after overrunning Elephant Pass military complex in 2000. In the case of assassinations, it was first started by the SL who first send their LRRP and killed LTTE's Airwing commander Col. Shanker in a claymore ambush in 2001, during the initial stages of the peace talks. And this sparked the Intelligence War for another 4 years (2002 - 2006) during peacetime, where both parties carried out assassinations on each other's key targets. 13) Again lie. The war ("Fourth Eelam War") began on 2006 and ended on 2009 May 18 with a Genocide of Tamils by the Sinhala military - "Examining different sources, including from the United Nations, census figures and World Bank data, ITJP found that the highest estimate of those killed during that final phase could be as large as 169,796" (Tamil Guardian, 12 March 2021) War would have been avoided if the Sinhalese have not started to hunt the Tamils like animals, now after Genociding the Tamils in Mullivaikkal it's hilarious to see that the Sinhalese like you are talking about avoiding the war. Sinhalese didn't lose anything rather than their soldiers who came to occupy the Tamil's homelands where the Tamils lost more than 216,000+ Tamils and their livelihood. 1 million Tamils have fled their homelands in fear of massacres by Sinhalese. No more trust in Sinhalese, you take back your occupying armed forces from our homelands and set us free. That's it.

LTTE wouldn't exist if the Sri Lanka government had been kind to Tamils. Every country is not perfect but what Sri Lanka and Sinhalese did to the Tamils cannot be forgiven even by God. What's that rifle at 2:30? I thought it was a FAL (looking kinda like the Israeli pattern) at first, then i thought it looked like a G3 with one of those Rhodesian insulator handguards, i also was thinking FN CAL. I'm also getting vibes of the Bushmaster Assault Rifle but that's unlikley. Is it a domestic rifle? Or does the mag just look like a 5.56 mag and not a 7.62 mag due to the low quality? I know FAL's would be available in Sri Lanka but it looks like most the other guys are using Type 56's. Edit: is it the same gun at 2:45? I would guess it was a FN CAL or FNC but the front end looks more HK33. The stock looks more FN though, like a FAL 50.63 stock. Edit 2: Pretty sure it's a FN CAL now.
