I was bummed to see Justus go, and I’m extremely sad to see Kovalenko go, but I do think the Avs today are a better team than they were yesterday. And for a team trying to capitalize on the remaining prime years of their elite core, it’s what you need.

every time i want another Locked On market I find myself impressed at how lucky we are to have the hosts we do for the Avs version. Shaggy and Chris may not get into the weeds on stats as much as some of the other hosts, but they are far more entertaining, easy to listen too, and seem to want to be here. The preds have a good pod too, but we are a bit better off over here

I’m pretty excited for this trade. I look at Blackwood’s numbers this season and if he can do that with San Jose’s blue line, imagine what he can do with ours. Is it unreasonable to think he could get bumped to a .93? Also remember that game he goalied the Avs with like 50+ saves last year? A little sad to see Kovey go but I think with the hopeful return of a few forwards plus some of the Eagles, there was a space issue and he isn’t defensively responsible at all. Cool that he was traded for a goalie like his dad though. We all know how that trade went for Colorado so maybe this pots us another 2 as well? 🤞

Overall, i think this is probably a good deal for both teams. a couple things that i'm surprised isn't getting much chatter in the Kovalenko discussions - the emergence of Ivan Ivan as an everyday NHL player (and also several years younger), and the KHL out that Kovalenko has in his contract. That means that if the Avs sent him down to the AHL and he wasn't happy with that decision, he could just up and leave to go back to the KHL. While that would always be a possibility for a rookie playing for the Avs right now, he'll get a regular role probably higher in the lineup in San Jose so that shouldn't be an issue there.

Sir VonDoom, you’re doing awesome running the ship solo. Chris WOULD abandon you the week we trade Georgie, haha. Want me to go down the road and pinch him? I’m just up I-4 from WDW so I can totally do it. (Just kiddin’, Chris…we love you and hope y’all are having a lovely vacation.) Never have I ever been a fan of Georgiev and I’ve never hidden that, even if I have tried to temper myself and give him chances (and I’ve tried to praise him when he’s done well), but it was beyond time. I wish him the best in San Jose, but I’m very hopeful our wood tandem goaltending is way better than what we had before. Losing Kovy sucks, but the last time we traded a Kovalenko…we won our first Cup. Just sayin’. Wink.

Sad to see Kovalenko go but Ivan made him expendable. When you really break it down to it’s roots, the Avs had to give up Georgiev, a 2017 sixth round pick in Kovi and a few other picks but it should be well worth it for a team in their window. And not saying it’s the reason why, but they played their most complete game of the season with him out of the lineup the other night. And there was no way the Avs could make a run in the playoffs with Georgiev being that inconsistent. I think the trade helped the trajectory of both teams as Kovalenko was nice piece for a rebuild team and Blackwood a good piece for a contender. Only time will tell but I’m absolutely loving this!

With such a strong top 2 lines, and new rookies finding their way and proving themselves on 3rd and 4th lines, I think this was an incredibly smart trade. Losing Kove is a hit the Av’s can afford. Georgiev had his moments of glory in Denver, but I think he’ll have a better time with a new scene, as will Blackwood. Overall I’d say this is a good swap for both teams looking for an early/mid season boost. A final thought; Look out NHL, the avalanche have goaltending!

Immediate reaction was holy overpay. The sharks fans thought they were getting a first for him, so to not need to use a first is nice. If they were deadset on getting a roster player with the trade Kovi had to be the one. Ivan had been better, Malinski as well, so he was the odd man out. I would have preferred to send the other Wood, but on IR that is not likely to happen. For all the people thinking that blackwood is going to be posting .950s every night....you are going to be in for a bad time. if he stays above .900 and healthy they will be in good shape. Neither are a for sure with him

There is talk of trying to extend Blackwood, I see this as a trade of Kovi for Blackwood if that happens. And IF this team is fully healthy, Kovi is getting buried on the depth chart and a competent tendy is more valuable to the team than a depth forward currently.

Oh I'm for it. My only concern is if the price is right. It's the cumulative trading away of young talent to get older players that frustrates me. It's a big gamble to trade for a cup or bust player. If they don't pan out and all your futures are gone, then what?
@Dino-114 күн бұрын
We traded two inconsistent goalies for two consistently back up goalies. Yeah Im glad they made moves... but both I feel like were terrible moves. I Hate to say it, but I think management made this bed and the price.. trade Mikko on the last year of his deal to go get a REAL goalie. A guy we can win with. Nether of these moves does anything for me and we traded a young goalie for an old goalie.. Im disappointed. epically if Mikko walks. any upgrades form this isnt enough for me
