I admit in comparison to the Salamancas who have a better fluidity in speaking Spanish in this scene... Gus sounds very robotic. Just one of those things you take the amazing with the slight setback with casting someone who has to learn the language. Outside of the accent, he still carries his mannerisms and expressions with great care despite sounding like he's trying to pronounce every syllable in Spanish.
@levilima99254 жыл бұрын
I agree. That's the kind of thing Americans usually do when speaking a different language. They kinda lack the ability of impersonating the phonology of the target's language. Walter got lucky, he had no idea about Gus and Hector's animosity towards each other until Saul told him in the nick of time. Walt wasn't a great planner like Gus, he was more of a resourceful opportunist who stopped at nothing when his back was against the wall. Basically he was the quintessential chemist, who mixed up whatever he had in front of him and transformed it into a favorable outcome (for him). It kept him alive but it's also why everything around him always fell apart, and why Mike saw him as a ticking time-bomb.

@Cool70sfreak3 жыл бұрын
Gus' sheer genius and level of control was what really made him scary. Keeping Walter White in his pocket and alive for his business, leading the cousins to Hank and explicitly telling them to go for Hank, warning Hank so they could die without anything to trace his direct involvement, and if Hank died, well, that that play worked to his advantage too. Either way, so long as the DEA knew about the cousins, they and Bolsa were no longer in his way when they got raided, and the DEA's focus was on the cartel more and on any of his business less, which allowed his empire to run unchecked. It also opened up a way to essentially destroy the cartel later on, since they were no longer standing in the way of Eladio.

@@josiahgonzalez942 'Gargoyles' was a cartoon series several year ago, and the main villain was called 'David Xanatos'. He designed situations so no matter what happened he would benefit. If you look up the phrase 'Xanatos Gambit' you will find examples for a lot of places. For example in the game 'Connect Four' a standard tactic is to set up two potential methods to get four in a row, but designed where if a person blocks the first it allows the second to occur. Or from the movie Schrek, where Farquaad sends Shrek after the princess Fiona. If Schrek fails then the fantasy creatures can stay in the swamp. If Schrek succeeds then Farquaad gets the Princess at no risk to himself or his troops. Either way, Farquaad would win. The escape was that Schrek and Fiona fall in love.
