Measuring water hardness in "TDS" or Total Dissolved Solids is an inaccurate way to do it.

Good analysis, but I would like to add that natural water and bore water normally contain sodium and magnesium, which affect the TDS. NaCl is not commonly suspended in natural water.

Good point I think you are correct and also incorrect. TDS meters do what they are supposed to do measure Total!!! Who knows what Total is of what. TDS is for hydroponic use. In aquariums it makes no sense as you just proved so I use GH KH tests.

I consider my TDS meter as sort of a "novelty" item. It does come in handy after water changes, by measuring the tanks starting TDS & using that number as a "proxy", watching nitrates & whatever else slowly build up over time. I think your TDS meter is a bit finicky though because of the need to be resetting it often. Not sure if that's a "feature" or an intermittent failure of your particular meter or not. Sometimes, my meter "hold" function is on & I forget to turn it off, etc. Good video. 👍📺😎

we do TDS & hardeness tests at work. We can have a TDS of 1800-3500 in our boilers and its soft.. not all the time though

TDS masures General Hardness or GH KH measures calcium and magnesium disolved in water.Both are hardnesses of the water but are measuring two different mineralizations.
