I bought Pryceon with F nib. I inked it with cartige and some reason I forgot the pen. 1 year and 3 months later it was possible to start writing without dipping a nib to water or anything. After cleaning it fell a little bit scratchy so I remove a nib for better washing and found that I can remove also feeder section easily and the whole pen is really easy to wash. I really love this pen!

Another terrific review James! A very attractive color. Once in a while when using my Safari Medium, I get a squeak. You’ve officially given me the appropriate description for its feel and that periodic squeak-. “Pencil ‘y” ! THAT’s the word I’ve been searching for. I must confess I prefer a smoother feel, but this pen does check a lot of boxes for me. Again, nice job!

i really hope they release Bold or even BB. Japanese pens tend to be thin but the medium on this pen is even thinner than some Japanese fines (which you mentioned to be close to 0.3 preppy)

Thank you for your content. It is a beautiful pen. The wonderful thing about fountain pens is there is a nib and style of pen for all tastes :) I spent years finding that I really just feel one with Waterman pens after trying literally almost every brand at different price ranges. So, while Platinum isn't my cup of tea, even though I own a few, I love watching your reviews and that truly is a beautiful pen to look at. I will be waiting for the Waterman comparison.

Comprehensive review as always James. Just a heads up, the pen got scratched quite easily should you want to use it for EDC. And by that I mean I just throw it in my bag with all my stuff (keys and what not) and it came out worse over time - should be okay with a case or sleeve though. But I'm fine with it (not gonna lie it the first tiny scratch broke my heart) but I embrace the wabi-sabi - ness of it all now lol

Good to know! Pens like this I tend to carry in a way to minimize scratches. I have a couple of pocket pens that I let get dinged up when that's not possible. 👍🏻

I ordered one after seeing the December Pen Mail video, I got a champagne colored one and a bottle of the Golden Brown ink. (A Christmas present to myself!) I really do enjoy both, they make a great note taking pair for online classes. 1) Texas is my guess. 2) You're rockin' that beard! 🙂

At 1:32, that's a Platinum Prefounte, not a Preppy. I don't see where anyone pointed that out yet. I've had my pen long enough that the "PREFOUNTE" has worn off the cap! Oh, and they're all "populated places" (be hard to call them all a "city"!) in Texas! :D

Great review as always and love the shirt! I received a medium Prefounte in a mystery box last year and was not impressed with the nib, but the way the Procyon writes, I may have to give one a try. I always though it was the same nib as the Preppy/Prefounte/Plasir as well. Ugh, you’ve made me add another pen to my buy list…lol God Bless and keep up the good work brother. Thanks! I'm biased toward the mediums in the Preppy/Prefounte/Plaisir range. Smooth and cheap paper tolerant. The 0.2 and 0.3 are more paper finicky.

@@JG3Reviews and see I was always under the impression that the finer the nib, the better on cheap paper. That’s what you always hear from other FP folks. Interesting.

It depends on what the issue is. If the paper is more fibrous and rough, the M and B will glide over that fibers without picking them up as badly. Fans especially EF become fiber catchers. If it's about cheap paper that is smoothz , but bleed-prone, EF or F is better.

I have that same pen. I like it very much. It writes very well and it's so comfortable to hold. It came with three mixed ink cartridges one of which is the Gold Ochre. I love this color, sadly I haven't found where to buy the ingredients for it. Meanwhile I'm trying similar ink, mostly from Diamine, with the hope of finding its match.

Thanks for the review James, I've got one of these in yellow, and it's a good pen. Shame they don't provide a converter, given that the capacity to slurp up ink from near-empty bottles is one of its selling points! I've heard a few reviewers point out that the Curidas nib is modified from the Procyon nib - same length, just narrower across its width. Does it look that way to you?

Agreed on the converter. I don’t see much in common with the Curidas nib. It’s maybe 1/2 the size, and features a breather hole. They may share similar approaches with very different scaling, though.

I just recently bought a Procyon luster and it's a nice pen but it seems to be a very dry writer. Is there a way to open up the tines? I'm not familiar about how to with this type of nib.

It is a good writer because it is blue. Does it come in black? It does look great.

As something that goes up against a Lamy Studio I don't think it wins this comparison for me. The step up and thise long threads on the Procyon are just a bit much for me and I like the unique clip and the overall design of the Lamy a bit more. Still a great pen as it seems.

Super review as always, James. The Procyon makes me think of my Diplomat Esteem. An expensive EDC. I totally would not be happy if something bad happened to my Esteem, any more than if I owned the Procyon. That said, I got a Jinhao 8802 a couple of years ago that I write letters with. Just saying. The Procyon you review seems a splendid pen.

Great review James! But but but….I have an important question to a guy with a regular-sized hand like me. With a pretty big diameter and virtually no step down on its section, how do you personally do with a longer writing session?

I’ve used this quite a bit for note-taking and work for long sessions, and it’s a very comfortable pen to me. Probably my favorite Platinum so far.

Nice review and presentation, as always on your channel. Now, just as a personal opinion: I find this Platinum to be no more good than the Preppy, which is, essentially, just someone's idea to transform a cheap roller pen into a fountain pen ; they kept the same feeder and added a cheap feeling and cheap looking nib (which seems to be half the thickness of a good Lamy Safary nib) and performs just as bad as it looks. The pen I got was very dry and scratchy even if it was labelled as M (and I hate dry-writing fountain pens...). So, I took some time to 'tune' it as a last step before throwing it away: took out the "wonder-feeder" and made one new opening above the nib's standing position (just like at a Lamy pen...). The result is encouraging: the pen finally writes wetter and I will not throw it away (yet) but neither will I buy another Platinum ever again - you're better off with 3 Lamy Safari at the same price.

The proper is good enough (as well as the Prefounte and Plaisir) that the Procyon is in a tougher position. Especially when the others have a smoother, wetter M nib.

An impressive pen that has key enduring qualities in terms of its build,styling and performance. If Platinum had made it a piston filler, that would have made this pen even more desirable in terms of mess free filling and the amount of ink it could carry between refills.
