This is very interesting for me. I've been vaping for over 12 years and make my own coils. So I have lots of different resistance wires and a very good lab power supply. For this reason, I have been toying with the idea of building my own hot wire cutter for some time... Greetings from Germany!

Excellent video Gerard! I'd like to add that along with the 0.3mm wire the use of the Proxxon foot pedal would be a great option. That way you can still make precision cuts and quickly power off the heat to avoid any unwanted burn.

The thicker the wire the less resistance they are. The main problem will be that the lower the resistance the higher the amperage draw up to a point where you might burn out the power supply.

Been needing this. I have some "fatter" wire, swiped from an old hair dryer, and been wondering if I could swap it into my cutter. Thanks for this

Using the foam cutter is like playing an instrument - experience and feel - the smaller wire is the better option.

I bought some foam a while ago which was really dense. This sounds like it might help. Thanks Gerard!

Good to know, the default one always seems like it's not sturdy enough.

My wire is a knife blade. I never understood why exact cuts are all that important when the foam gets textured afterwards anyways.

Hi Gerard, thanks for the video ! It seems like the thickest wire is on the hottest temperature at the beginning of the cutting test ? As the vido blurs the button, I can't see well but it looks like it's on temperature 6… or are my eyes not working well (they might be !) Anyway are you sure the first hole was made on the lowest temperature for the 0.4mm wire ? It seems weird that on the lowest or the hotest setting, the hole remains the same ! Have a good day, sir !

@@clprtr yes they are all on the hottest setting and yes cutting the thickest wire was set on the lowest heat.

yes I do think so!

@@ShiftinglandsI would like to make an order but it should be cheaper to buy what I need there instead of paying extra charges for postal service. Hope to see you there. Thank you again

I have some large sheets of 48x24x2 inch foam, I would like to make some 6x6x1/4 inch pieces but my Proxxon is not tall enough to cut 6" pieces. Any suggestions please.
