Himeji Castle is a Japanese castle located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The main buildings such as the castle tower and turret that were built in the early Edo period still exist and have been designated as national treasures and important cultural properties.
Additionally, the inside of the middle moat, including the main wall, is designated as a special national historic site as the ``Himeji Castle Ruins.''

Himeji Castle is said to have its origins as a mountain castle built in the 14th century.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi carried out major renovations, and the current prototype of the castle was completed.
At the behest of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Terumasa Ikeda further expanded it and it became what it is today.
It is also known as Shirasagi Castle and has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 castles.
It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
