Britain may have played a central role in the transatlantic slave trade however English law did not recognize slavery. Hence why many black fighters could box without a Lynching. Bill Richmond; Born into slavery in America, Richmond moved to England and became one of the first Black professional boxers. Known as the "Black Terror," Richmond later trained another black figher Tom Molineaux. Molineaux's famous bouts with Tom Cribb, the English champion, were major events. Caribbean born Peter Jackson (1861-1901) Known as the "Black Prince," Peter Jackson was one of the most successful Black boxers of the late Victorian era.

As long as it pushes black-excellence propaganda on to the target female demographic, the ShekelGoblin isn’t concerned with authenticity.

To be fair. there were a whole bunch of black boxers in Regency and early victorian London. People like Bill Richmond and Tom Molineaux to name but two. Also, a good number of Jewish boxers were champions in the same era . Pre-Queensbury rules.

2 isn’t “a whole bunch”. And the Jewish boxers were probably responsible for the presence of the black boxers in the U.K. to begin with. Just like a Jew was responsible for building Britain’s first mosque..

History is the foundation for informed patriotism. African and Caribbean people had been present in London since the 16th century, but their numbers increased during the Victorian era due to Britain's involvement in the transatlantic slave trade (before its abolition) and its colonial reach. Many were former enslaved people, sailors, or laborers who settled in London, often working in low-paying jobs. Some worked as servants in wealthy households. South Asians, primarily from India, arrived in London as students, sailors (known as lascars), or servants accompanying British colonial officers and merchants. Chinese immigrants, mainly sailors and merchants, settled in London's East End, especially around Limehouse. This area became associated with a small but notable Chinese community involved in businesses like laundries and restaurants. Jewish immigrants, particularly from Eastern Europe (e.g., Russia and Poland), escaping pogroms and persecution. Many settled in the East End, where they established vibrant cultural and religious communities. Whitechapel, in particular, became a hub for Jewish life. The Irish were one of the largest immigrant groups in Victorian London, particularly after the Irish Potato Famine (1845-1852). Many worked as laborers, dockworkers, and domestic servants Immigrants from Italy, Germany, and France also made their homes in London. Italian communities were known for their work in street entertainment and trades like ice cream vending, while Germans often worked in brewing and baking. God save the King 👑 🇬🇧
