Because it's canon, Merlin waited a thousand years for Arthur and he'll wait a thousand more
Well I think I have exhausted all the tears in me. Words don't describe the tears I shed during Merlin and Arthur's final moments together and just when I thought I couldn't cry anymore I made this.
I have always wanted to vid this song but I never had the inspiration to do it and do it well but after Merlin's finale on Christmas Eve it just had to be done. I thought the ending was so so but Arthur's death scene was spot on and I just had so many emotioonnnssss. Everytime I watch it I find something new to cry about. I will miss this show a lot, it always provided some light-hearted fun along with the drama and I sorely need that in my shows lol.
But on a more serious note I would really just like to thank Merlin for a wonderful ride and the fandom for being so nice. Merthur is my second favourite ship and I just love them to pieces. I don't care what way you view their relationship but to me it was one of the best on television and it was such a joy to watch them grow together. Ugh no more before I dissolve again.
So I hope I did them justice and that you all like it!

Gwen was his wife and companion in leadership. Arthur loved her because she always shared the same values in life and she supported him as a Prince and king. But Merlin, Merlin was different. He never saw Arthur as a Prince or a king. He saw him as a human being. His arrogant, spoilt, self-obsessed and proud side, but also compassionate, loyal, forgiving and strong side. He's the only person who has ever TRUELY seen Arthur for who he is. They have a love and loyalty that goes beyond Gwen.

The sad thing is, is that they were planning to do another series. At the end, we see Merlin in modern day, and that was somehow, when Arthur was to be born again. As the dragon states multiple times, Arthur is the "once and FUTURE king" and saying he will "Rise again". This means Arthur would have somehow been resurrected and Arthur and Merlin would have to cope with modern society..... So sad now!

If anything, I admire his restraint and control of himself. And everything Merlin does is for Arthur, for Camelot, for the kingdom he's destined to build, for Albion, and most of all for his best friend! I know a lot of Merthur fans want to see them as a couple, but I don't see it like that. I love this edit because it shows their bond beautifully. Just hearing the beginning notes to 'A Thousand Years' is enough to make me keel over as the feels overwhelm me. Anyone out there read the script for Season 6? This song just hits differently if you have 😭😭😭 I would HIGHLY recommend searching Balencian Merlin S6 Kingdom Come if you’d like some serious healing/closure to this INCREDIBLE story!!! Also, I only joined the Merlin fandom recently (as in I only finished S5 like a month and a half ago) and balled my eyes out like crazy. Also, I watched it Thursday night, and I’m a college student and I had class in the morning, and I was there in class still fighting back my tears, struggling (and failing) to concentrate on the lecture…it was not a fun day because all I wanted to do was curl up into a ball and cry over Arthur’s death 😭😭😭😭😭 (it also really didn’t help matters that by this point in watching the series I had developed a SERIOUS crush on Arthur, and then HE DIED 😭) So I was incredibly lucky that I stumbled upon a comment later that night speaking about the 6th season of Merlin script. I searched it and listened to the first episode that Friday night…and sobbed myself to sleep again, but for a different reason than I had the night before :) Lol, anyways I loved the video!!!!!!! And hope y’all can find the healing that I found in reading/listening to this amazing S6 script!!!

This series and its finale means so much to me as a fangirl and shipper, it's like a veil was finally lifted off my eyes - who we are and what we stand for. "I want you to always be you". Can't believe for more than a month now I continuesly watching this series from season 1-5 repeatedly and each Brough lots of tears from my eyes. I'll say wow to this but so sad Arthur had to die. They both could continue after they've worn the victory and merlin reveling himself. Just hoping they will release another cast of merlin season 6, like what the jragon said that Arthur will return as the greatest king Carmelot has ever known. Wow to this movie, I'm shuts of words just my heart and eyes can express how I feel...congratsss just hoping and waiting😁😇💓💖

The one way the final would have worked with everything, that has happened: The last "Merlin", the title card, that Kilgarrah always says, this last time ... Arthur should have said it. That way it is implied, that he has risen, that time, as Merlin walked past Avalon, as an old man. That would have been so, so goood
