Gwen was his wife and companion in leadership. Arthur loved her because she always shared the same values in life and she supported him as a Prince and king. But Merlin, Merlin was different. He never saw Arthur as a Prince or a king. He saw him as a human being. His arrogant, spoilt, self-obsessed and proud side, but also compassionate, loyal, forgiving and strong side. He's the only person who has ever TRUELY seen Arthur for who he is. They have a love and loyalty that goes beyond Gwen.

The sad thing is, is that they were planning to do another series. At the end, we see Merlin in modern day, and that was somehow, when Arthur was to be born again. As the dragon states multiple times, Arthur is the "once and FUTURE king" and saying he will "Rise again". This means Arthur would have somehow been resurrected and Arthur and Merlin would have to cope with modern society..... So sad now!

Merlin Arthur I toad my mum I wanted to get a dark coloured bearded dragon called kilgarrah and a albino one called authusa. She toad me to get over it and it was like being punched in the stomach. I've been toad I'm obsessed over and over again but I'm not, i just don't have much else I'm passionate about and there just something about it, I can just watch it again and again over and over and I know there's other people like me, I believe that Merlin changed my life and I worry that one day I will wake up and not care about it as much and it scares me. If anything, I admire his restraint and control of himself. Can you imagine any young actor in the role of Arthur who had to work with Colin and *not* adore him to the point where everyone thinks he is smitten? Colin is irresistable and Bradley should be congratulated for dealing with it in a very commendable way. And everything Merlin does is for Arthur, for Camelot, for the kingdom he's destined to build, for Albion, and most of all for his best friend! I know a lot of Merthur fans want to see them as a couple, but I don't see it like that. I love this edit because it shows their bond beautifully. But, again, I don't believe their story is nor should it ever be romantic in nature. I know many will disagree with me, and that's okay. To each their own. But, the Arthurian legends don't show them in a romantic way and neither does Merlin. I love what they have, and I couldn't wish for anything more.

Just hearing the beginning notes to 'A Thousand Years' is enough to make me keel over as the feels overwhelm me. Everyone of my OTPs has a video using this song and each one of them is beyond beautiful yet heartbreaking. This series and its finale means so much to me as a fangirl and shipper, it's like a veil was finally lifted off my eyes - who we are and what we stand for. "I want you to always be you". This was a transpersonal message, but for it to be such, it would first have to be fully personal (i.e. Arthur saying it to Merlin, like "God to Goddess" talk - so I also thought of Jesus and Mary there, that she doesn't have to change...). Watching this video showed me how much Colin Morgan's range of emotions is wide. It is something else in the episode ''The gates of Avalon'' when he runs in the lake searching for Arthur. My English is so poor and I can't find the words to describe how he moves (like a momentum of an athlete) and his emotions throughout his search and after. Great performance. welcome to the club! I'm trying to figure out this phenomenon for myself too. The way the Merlin character is set up to make him extremely likeable to the viewer is not new or unique in storytelling. On the contrary, you see it quite often. More often than not these characters are portrayed by handsome young actors too. So what is the difference here? I suspect Colin to be the deciding factor. He is to what it comes down to when I analyze my extreme unusual emotional stock in everything Merlin or Colin himself even to this day.

Also, I watched it Thursday night, and I’m a college student and I had class in the morning, and I was there in class still fighting back my tears, struggling (and failing) to concentrate on the lecture…it was not a fun day because all I wanted to do was curl up into a ball and cry over Arthur’s death 😭😭😭😭😭 (it also really didn’t help matters that by this point in watching the series I had developed a SERIOUS crush on Arthur, and then HE DIED 😭) So I was incredibly lucky that I stumbled upon a comment later that night speaking about the 6th season of Merlin script. I searched it and listened to the first episode that Friday night…and sobbed myself to sleep again, but for a different reason than I had the night before :) Lol, anyways I loved the video!!!!!!! And hope y’all can find the healing that I found in reading/listening to this amazing S6 script!!!
