Hey everyone!
So a little background information about this vide first of all. It's actually about 4 years in the making. I first came across this version of "Fix You" on tumblr and it completely finished me with emotion and knew at once that I had to vid it one day. I started a merthur project with it soon after, before season 5 had even aired. When the show ended I was so upset about the ending and about the end of the show that I threw myself into the Glee fandom and stopped vidding so much Merlin for a while because it was just too painful. Cut to this year and the amazing ladies that hosted the Coinelot convention in Berlin asked me to make a video exclusively for this convention, which was a merthur convention (more information on my tumblr for how amazing it was!!!!)
Merlin/Arthur are honestly my favourite ship of all time. When I first got into the Merlin fandom I was a completely different person. I'm half Polish and come from a huge Polish family, and my upbringing was not particularly liberal. I'm not proud of it in the slightest, but I did have a lot of internalised homophobia and it wasn't until I saw these two together and read the fic and found YT that it cured me of that and opened my mind.
These two are really so special to me and I wanted to give the coinelot convention something special. My aim when making this video was, if something had never seen the show and didn't know about this ship and why it was so unique and special, what could I show them that would explain to them what is merthur? And this is what I came up with. It took weeks to edit, and it took 4 full days to render. It was the most emotionally exhausting and satisfying vid I've ever made and I think just because of all the aspects and the link to coinelot that it has to be my favourite thing that I've ever made.
The text at the beginning and the end is from an article that was written soon after the finale and it touched me so deeply that I just NEEDED it in this vid to bookend it and make it emotionally satisfying, as the ending is fucking BRUTAL.

Even the show runners thought of it as a love story between Merlin and Arthur, even saying that in the commentary. The final two episodes sadly are the only two that they really go so far as to be almost blatant about it - short of declarations or a kiss (which frankly, they should have had the declaration because it was true and even if you don't ship them, they DID love each other, whether you want to view that as platonic or romantic, and Arthur was fucking dying, and to have him say Thank You - something he has said MORE than once throughout 5 seasons really was just ridiculously pointless). They just sadly took the coward's way out there, as far as dialogue went - but Colin and Bradley more than mad up for that (and honestly, they did throughout the whole of the series - it's boggling to see people watch this show and see the way they look at each other and NOT get the clear indication that there is something MORE there between the characters). That said, in the final two episodes, they made such a point about it being a love story about Merlin and Arthur that there was literally nothing about Arthur and Gwen - he wasn't upset that he wasn't going to see his wife again, he didn't send any kind of message back to her with Gaius. The ring wasn't a token of his love, it was the symbol she needed to be able to rule Camelot, because Arthur KNEW that he wasn't going to survive, but he was going with Merlin, spending his remaining hours left with the person that had loved him, that he loved most in his too short life, because despite being upset about the magic, there was no one else that he wanted to spend his last moments with. All you have to do is WATCH the way they look at each other, the way they touch in that episode and you KNOW they loved each other, and not in a platonic way. It's also clear that Colin assumes or is at least playing Merlin as gay or bi at the very least from the interview where he talks about Merlin's romantic prospects and how he gets a romantic interest and the show kills HIM off -pause-...or her. So it would not at all be a stretch to think that he'd be playing Merlin as falling for Arthur, since he's in Arthur's back pocket every day, saving his life, becoming closer, and Arthur becoming a better man because of his relationship with Merlin. It's not at all that hard to believe either that Gwen was a beard - as all King's require a Queen and an heir. Several times in the beginning the relationship sounds less about love and more about how Gwen would like to be Queen because of what she could do in the position for the people of Camelot - better than some rando-Princess from a neighbouring kingdom. And Lancelot did leave, trying to be all noble, by leaving Gwen to Arthur (though it's actually quite horrifically sexist - though sadly likely accurate for the period in time - that either man should be making that decision for her without even TALKING to her), so of course she said yes to Arthur but she obviously would have chosen Lancelot if he had stayed because HE was the one she actually loved. There are SO many things throughout the series that suggest that Merlin and Arthur were more than friends - GOD, just look at that scene where Arthur is telling Merlin that the Knights are more than brothers to him and Merlin tells him he understood, wishes he didn't but he does. The WAY that Bradley looks at Merlin - JAYSUS if that isn't love.

I totally agree. I watched this show twice and almost a third time, but I honestly couldn't get through it a third time because 1) I have a million other shows to watch and 2) I couldn't handle that he didn't heed Kilgarrah's warnings. But I realize that it was becauae he didn't heed them that made the story, but eventually lead to Arthur's death and I'm too weak to go through that emotional pain a third time 😭❤ I still love them, though

I think it would have made him rather heartless if he had blindly listened to everything Kilgharrah said... I keep going through the story in my head, trying to think of things he might have done differently, but always come up short 😔

_Never_ take this down. This video is by far my favorite out of the thousands of Merlin videos on this website. It’s so beautiful. The quote at the beginning is so true, and the last quote redeemed my hope for the future and strengthened my love for these two, and the whole show for that matter. You somehow managed to capture the essence of _Merlin,_ the love and inspiration and heartbreak that we feel from it. Merlin and Arthur is about a love story and I believe the creators and producers of this show intended that way. But, because it was framed and outlined as a family TV show, the writers and producers had to hide their intentions by using class divisions, magic and loyalty as a backdrop. The intro is beautiful as it is accurate. Damn ten seconds in and I'm already on a verge of tears.. EDIT: _This is enchanting._ You made such a sad yet fantastically beautiful video, I have no words to describe how much it affected me. It did make me cry, I admit, but it also made me smile with eyes filled with tears. It's like, the whole show, what makes *_Merlin_* so dear and special to me, has been summarized in 7 minutes. Arthur and Merlin's relationship is extraordinary. I have never once seen anything like it. My heart aches to think about the ending and how unjust it was, to Merlin especially. I'd pay real money if I knew what strange forces are responsible for the weird chemical processes going on inside me while I watch this. My breathing gets irregular, it sometimes even feels difficult to breath, my heart is disturbed by some sort of constriction while my vision gets blurred and at some point threatens to start the waterwork. This video tells the story of two men, who risked their life for each other soo many times, they literally have the greatest friendship I've ever seen - of any show! Many thanks for your choice of clips and music so beautifully edited. This was definitely a love story between two men. It has happened since the beginning of times. Luckily for all the fans, the actors played it to perfection. James Bradley gave a moving, credible interpretation of Arthur's last 2 days with Merlin. The incredible talented Colin Morgan, playing Merlin crying at the end, is the best interpretation I have seen in my life... and I am old.
