A Time for Repair and Reparations

James S. Gordon MD’s latest conversation, “A Time for Repair and Reparations” with Adjoa Aiyetoro, is now available on KZbin.
Adjoa is a human rights lawyer, social worker, and activist who has for more than thirty years played an important role in the campaign for reparations for Americans of African descent. Over the course of her career, she has served as the Executive Director of the National Conference of Black Lawyers, the Director of Administration for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc., and as a Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She’s also served in various capacities at the U.S. Department of Justice, the Malcolm Bliss Community Mental Health Center, and the ACLU National Prison Project.
Jim and Adjoa discuss systemic racism and the toll it takes-psychological and spiritual, as well as economic. She discusses why reparations can be so important in addressing and promoting healing from the injustices inflicted on African slaves and their descendents, as well as the lessons that we should draw from the current violence against Black men. They explore how mind-body approaches, spirituality, and The Center for Mind-Body Medicine’s work can heal the psychological damage done by historical and present trauma.
