The Oris BC is a classic sports/dress watch. I have one in my collection and, while not a regular wear for me, I would never part with it. Such is the nature of an iconic watch to a watch collector or fan.

The only thing I don't like and why doesn't make it a sport/dress are the 50m instead of the 100m, that is a shame
@jackburtonstwin3 жыл бұрын
@@jimyarradi That is a criticism often leveled at this watch, and it's not unreasonable in this day and age to anticipate greater water resistance from a watch. Nonetheless, the watch's origins are as an aviation watch (hence the big crown design) so water resistance was not historically a function-critical element of its design.

I think they're being a little conservative with the water resistance. Screw down crown and caseback as well as the high level of quality and construction make me think this would be closer to 100m of WR.

Right ? I’d like to hear what others say as well ... I would lean towards 100wr also and I like that a lot .

Agreed. I own one in the grey/blue and it’s wonderful, but as a daily driver and at the asking price it should have 100m of water resistance and a sapphire crystal on the back or closed case back. The lume is also just okay for the price. The lume on the Arabic’s is almost nonexistent. That said, it’s lovely to look at and finished wonderfully. One of my favorite pieces. There’s nothing out there like it that I have found. The pointer date function is cool, but if you have aging eyes, you won’t be able to see the little date numbers. Teddy has presented this watch honestly I think.

@michaelansberry87053 жыл бұрын
I have the black dial 36mm version and a small wrist (6.75in but very square). I have had many 36mm watches over time and the BC36 wears smaller than all of them. The 17mm lug width is annoying but fits the small feeling of the case. I like its humble size and feel it works very well for a vintage-style watch. I’m impressed by the construction and finishing, it all feels very solid, including the bracelet and clasp. The dial is far from “black” as Teddy said and is more dark grey and even brown at times but again, I think it looks fantastic for a watch of this style and much better than if it were true black. The aggressive domed sapphire gives a pleasant distortion at extreme angles. My criticism is the grade of movement, with comparable German brands fitting “Top” grade Sellitas/ETAs at the same price. However, this is expected with the amount of advertising that Oris does and always having to pay the ‘Swiss tax’ anyway. A solid caseback would work better on this watch as well. Overall, the 36 is surprisingly not seen much even though there is a lack of great 36mm dress/sport watches from the big brands otherwise (other than BB36). As a German/Japanese watch fan, I was skeptical of getting a Swiss watch but have been very happy with it and it exceeded my expectations overall.

Great review Teddy. I agree with just about everything in this review as I have this watch with the oxblood red dial on the leather strap and love it. The pointer date execution is brilliant as you can see the date indicator whatever the time. Oddly I'm not a huge fan of the date complication for this reason. Accuracy is so far within COSC limits even though it is not certified. This was my first Oris and hopefully will not be my last from the brand. The only downside is the lume isn't great but no big deal for this watch.

Great looking watch that is a bit of a strap monster. Why a screw-down crown on this style of watch with only 5 ATM? The bracelet doesn't blend with the lugs for me. Nice watch, but with an average price point of ~ € 1200 within the EU it is way too expensive for what you get. I wouldn't go above € 800 for a watch with SW-200 based movement so € 400 for the pointer date is a bit too much to my taste. 😁
@CH-yp5by3 жыл бұрын
Well it depends on what grade of SW200 movement you get, if its the top grade thats witihin COSC tolerances of +5/-5 sec per day or the chronometer certified version than the price is totally worth the money. I would not fall into the trap that thinking an in-house movement automatically means its higher quality and / or better made. One thing for sure the SW200 is a shitload cheaper to get serviced not thats a common thing to so with this movement.
