This video summerised my life at the moment. Making a good vision come to life in England reminds me of the time when I visited Brighton and I was trying to keep my chips safe from seagulls on Brighton Pier. By the end, I was cold, wet, traumatized, without chips... The effort might not give what initially wanted, but it gives what’s real, and real is always lovely.

You are one of those photographers that inspire me. Not because of what you shoot, in fact I will be honest and say that most of your work is not my taste. But it is inspiring because it is about bending the conventions and finding pleasure in the things you shoot

I sincerely appreciate this video, James. I've been taking photos for 20 years (off and on) and I've always felt like I never fit one category, which I've only recently starting to lean into. Your photos, aesthetic, concept, practice, etc. have been impossibly helpful (and reassuring). I'm so happy I found your channel, and have since turned into such a fan of your work. Thank you, James.

The best advice you gave was to take the photos that interest you and not worry if they neatly fit a specific/academic genre. It's taking interesting photos that tell a story that count

I always enjoy your photos. This is because the things that interest you also interest me. The interaction of humans within the environment/nature. That appeals to me a lot. I believe totally that it is interesting. Many painters in the previous centuries also had this interest.

If the number of views and likes at the 2 hr mark mean anything, I'd say that your approach to photography and subject matter resonate with a lot of people. I very much enjoy the images and b-roll from your local backroads and hidden corners. Also, I received your book. Every bit as excellent and beautiful as I was expecting. Thank you and congrats on a wonderful accomplishment.

Thanks for another good video James. I wish you and yours well for the new year. Thank you for highlighting the "saw the photo from the car" situation. My interest in photography is dominated by the photos I didn't take. So many times I think I see a great photo (scene, light....) but I can't stop. Or if I do stop, the scene isn't actually accessible, or wasn't like it seemed when scanned from the moving car. Keep up the good work.

Funny enough, up until now, i havent wasted a single minute trying to put you or your photographic style in any category. Except, you're basically photographing what I've been studying the past years: geography. :) Geography as a study programme is basically about human-nature interaction (spaces, places, environment, nature, made up invisible societal rules, constraints, compromise, dependency, ...). I take photos just as a hobby and what I like taking photos of is at times a bit weird. Cause for me its more about a "vibe" that I'm feeling in the shot, a certain interrelation between maybe different things in a shot (a lizard in the train tracks, a sign on the road), specific details (like rust on a fence or patina on a road or wood, etc.), colours and textures or maybe a sort of phantasy/ideal of a type of landscape. Its quite vague, but maybe that is just the appeal. So maybe that is why i relate to your approach and your photos so much. Anyways, thank you for making "not fitting" a comfortable thing

this is my fav video youve ever made. The slow burn and the hunt of specific photos was a very chill vibe. Not great for the algorithm I'm sure, but it really did feel like we were there with you hanging out and staking out these spots. I like how this was one continuous day with the in-between moments rather than the highlights with LightRoom commentary, although those are fun too. A way I would describe your photography is that if someone had painted your frames with oil and a brush, it would be priceless. Especially the scenes today, your photos tend to follow the "rules" of paintings more than photos. Which is why I like your style so much and also why my name is in your book.

"Know me from Adam" I think is what you were looking for. I enjoy your work quite a bit. It has a lot of diversity. At 63, I take images I like. If someone else likes them, that's a bonus but not necessary. Oh yeah, get some electrolytes for the cramps. My toes start to cramp and taking a scoop of electrolytes every day -- no sugar variety -- seems to keep it a bay. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them!

Taking photos in your local environment is great! It’s all I’ve been doing for about 15 years now. Also taking photos of things others might not. Only difference between you and me is that you’re knowledgeable and make more consistent looking photos. I’ve learned stuff from you and I’ve changed how I view man made objects in my photos. I like them more now. Thanks for all the videos!

Always enjoyed your photography,. The interplay of man and nature is an area many/most landscape photographers avoid like the plague, but there isn't a square foot of pristine land in England and Scotland (probably Wales too) - forests cleared, new forests planted, arable land, dry stone walls, and even sheep keeping the grass trimmed in the windswept and rocky uplands. Living at the edge of a large (ish) town in Lancashire, I've got access to wild deer in one direction, industrial revolution canals in another and old cotton mills now rapidly disappearing. Trouble is, I'm just not a good enough photographer to do them justice.

You have nearly 300k subscribers James, which tells me that your style of photography is enjoyed by many including me. I much prefer photographing scenes that are interesting and make me ask questions to the usual stuff that fills social media these days (sunrise and sunset landscapes). It’s not that I don’t like traditional landscapes, I do, but I very rarely look at those photos later down the line. A rusty tractor or a battered old caravan in an unusual setting, then I can’t stop studying the pictures with a host of questions. I just don’t share them because I don’t think anyone else will like them. I’ll take your advice and share them as someone else might just enjoy them too!

You remind me of one of my other favorite photography channels and I think you and him have the same sort of outlook on photography in general sort of. I'm sure you've heard of Craig Roberts and his e6 channel but if not you should check it out because he does what you describe. He views what would be considered ugly or not pretty and finds the shot which I find fascinating which must be why I enjoy your channel too. He openly hates the pretty views and sunrise and sunset and goes out of his way to not capture them which I find funny too.

For me, I have come and understod myself as a Portrait photographer, even if I like you mostly photograph "a landscape". That in it self is a subject we have a relationship with and something we can understand more via photo ( the bright red human presence of a letterbox in muted nature). It's close to documentary photography but it's not about capturing a specifik moment/action in time

james, the cramps occurence can be greatly decreased by sufficient minerals intake, if you are the tap water kind rather than mineral water kind of person then this may be a clue why you are getting them more often, as i imagine your younger self was just mostly drinking junk too :) electrolyte powder is an option, adding sea/mountain salt to your water is also an option. you are welcome.

The shear number of photos I take simply based on "seeing" something as I'm walking by is a bit disconcerting to me... but I get a lot of positive feedback so I feel like I'm doing something right? I'm still fairly new to photography but I don't have a "style" so much as a "feel". I think James helps me realize that it doesn't matter what I'm shooting, doing MY thing is what's most important. Love this channel.
