I run pedals into the v4 duchess which runs into my 1x12 cab with a creamback speaker that I use for church. I'm not good at tweaking digital amps so this was a great alternative for an Amp. Also is nice to just put it in my backpack with my cables.

@@jhneilson Good question. I have owned & presently own several Tone King amps, and if I recall correctly, there have always been some amps in their range that never had an effects loop. It may be that the earlier versions of the Royalist had an effects loop, but I would have to look it up to know for sure.

Almost all these types of pedal allow you to defeat the speaker simulation or IRs to allow this so it would be weird if this one didn't.

Please bear with me. I was out of playing for about 15 years and now i'm back, and a bit confused. People are ditching amps? How does that work for stage volume to hear yourself? Do you run direct to the board and the put it through your monitor? I suppose you can use an external speaker, but now you just back to a head and a speaker like a regular amp. SO wh😮at is the advantage of these in a live setting?

Plug in direct. Lots of people now using in ear monitors. No need for stage volume. The biggest advantage is being able to crank these to desired level, no need to go volume 10 (too loud) to get driven tones, etc. No need for mics. Many such systems also can do multiple tones (mixes of amps and cabs) so you can have wildly different rigs at the touch of a button.

Because the Imperial Preamp has an effects loop, an external reverb pedal can be used to replace the rather 'vintage' sounding Imperial reverb.
