So do you think the rub was caused by the wheel flex when turning? Great forensics Dan.

Pretty sure; I would have heard a consistent rub, or at least I think I would have.

Thanks for sharing this horrible experience with us! Do you consider switching to real tubeless tire? And what width was this tire? It seems to have a maximal last of 70 kg...Best wishes for the repair!

Well I would consider it, but for now I'm staying with tubes on the back. The front tires are tubeless. If I was more careful inspecting my rear tire then the tubes will do their job, even if slower.
