You should get yourself some soft shackles, they float for a brief bit unlike the metal hard shackles they can fit through more cleats as well. Less likely to lose a pin in the drink! Nice work!

Just food for thought on the next one, run a strap w/come along under the hull side to side to help support/catch the front of the boat instead of letting it slide down the dock.

If the pilings on either side were tall enough to do that it might have been an option

Good job, Capt. Ken. When it comes to salvaging boats, is there anything you can't do?
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Art! Yes. There's some stuff I can't do and plenty we chose not to. I have a video coming out on the 8th where I just tow the boat after we subbed out the refloat. Could we have done it? Yes. Did we want to? No. It took the guy who did 9hrs to refloat and patch it

I installed quite a few boatlifts in the Fort Lauderdale area The company recommended removing boats from boat lift and lowering the cradles into the water during hurricanes
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 ай бұрын
If you have a place to put the boat, yeah, that's great. Most people who have a boat on a lift don't
@jungletension2835
@jungletension2835 2 ай бұрын
@ doesn’t mean it’s OK to leave it on the lift cause they don’t have a place to put their boat. There’s plenty of Rackham and Stackin places that have hurricane protection policies.
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 ай бұрын
@@jungletension2835 most of those places have been completely packed. It's not like they just have 1000 empty racks hoping people will want to put their boats their during a hurricane

Capt, what was the purpose of the winch on the front? just to make sure you are controlling the movement of the bow?

Why didn't you have the lift raised more while come alonging from the Stearn. Looks like it was sitting on a nylon. Seahunts are not cheap lol

Dangerous when you were down behind the boat jacking the come-a-long w/ the boat raised in the front...... lol, I know you were completely aware but all I could picture was how easy it could go bad? The front hook(eye) on the boat.... you ever seen them pull out? I've seen one but on an old boat. Thanks for sharing this video, peace
@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Diggy! That's what the winch was for. I 100% wasn't worried about the tow eye pulling out. This was a relatively new boat, and I've never broken one before even on older boats.

I saw the front "eye" pull out of an old heavy boat on a boat launch.... it didn't come Out but it moved about 2 inches which for me would have been the end of the use of that boat/trailer. But the guy risked & drove off. Well, if you've not come across it then chances are it'll never happen. I know you take all safety precautions but my mind races along when you do these remarkable salvages..... it's educational to watch. Thanks for sharing it all. peace

@diggy-d8w

The boat was up on the trailer at this point & it wasn't my boat nor did I get to look at it. I saw the people looking at it & I saw the "Eye" appearing to be out from the boat in an unnatural spot. Something was strange & I never thought about it til you did the work on this boat. Is it possible they had done some other makeshift connection that made me see it wrong? In all honesty from my distance It might not have been as I thought. THat does happen. I hope whatever it was they fixed it before hauling the boat anymore. perace

I would have used a metal A frame on the front, winched it up in the air with a winch holding the A frame, and as you lower the boat lift, loosen the A frame in the direction of the boat lifting it off the dock 😊

Wondered why you use the winch to pull the transom aft with the lift fully elevated. Watch your channel all the time.

There was too much weight on the bow, so there was a good chance it would've toppled forward if we pulled it straight back as soon as it came off that piling

@CaptKenO
@CaptKenO Ай бұрын
Never pulled it forward. Just had the winch there to keep it from falling off the lift. You couldn't pull it back on the lift as it was since it would've fallen forward under the dock
