An amazing day of walking around Paris, the capital of France, on a chilly winter's day. So is Paris overrated or is it the greatest city in the world?

Never get tired of seeing Paris. Been there 2x in the last two years and never get enough of it.....mostly because of their art culture. In terms of pricing, it is similar to U.S. as far as lodging & food. I've also experienced thief, 3 young girls got my wallet out of my purse in the metro. Friendly Parisian.... and you got a steal for the hotel..... can you share where you stayed, I would like to consider it for my next trip to Paris. Oh and I still remember when I saw the Eiffel tower for the very first time in person, I didn't expect it to be so tall and massive. Happy travel Gabriel.

Not a huge fan of Paris. Just like every European city they keep the touristy areas nice and clean but you get to the 10th AND (neighborhood) and further, it gets very run down. The people aren't as rude as everyone makes them out to be on the plus side. I think of it the same way when people come to the USA and say they don't like it but only been to NYC, which is a bad interpretation of the whole country. I love France and the smaller cities like Bordeaux, Nantes, and Marseille, and my favorite regions like Limousin and Auvergene that's the REAL France and folks are very friendly! Enjoy your time in Paris Gabriel, huge fan of your videos

I live in Nantes and as you said it is like every European city (more like big cities in muilticultural countries). In reality it's a shithole where you can't get out in the city center past 10pm, where women can't walk peacefully during daylight and where the criminality is increasing at an alarming rate. There is not a single day without a dramatic news. Just today you'll find out news about a student getting stabbed (attempt murder) and a mayor of the agglomeration that just killed himself (I know it's not necessarily related to the depressing side of the city but still dramatic.) Nantes legitimatelly compares to Marseille as one of the few most dangerous cities in Europe. When the population gets to vote (ie on ville-ideale.fr), Nantes is currently the least rated city for security in France.

I am a frequent visitor to Paris, living in London it’s just over 2 hours by train. I love it! ❤️ I find it hard to believe the original price of the hotel is genuine. I stay at a nearby Ibis Bastille and it’s usually around €99 with a much bigger room. Another tip, that meal was expensive. I usually eat at a chain Hippopotamus, great menu, lots of steaks etc, and menus in English too,if you ask. Merci Beaucoup!! 👍🏼😀

Hi Gabriel, I stunning city of immense grandeur with concerns of crime being it's an old city with narrow streets I would say not venturing into those narrow streets of Europe would be a good rule of thumb especially at night. My favorite books and adaptations to movies have always been Alexandre Dumas The Three Musketeers and of course The Count of Monte Cristo, The Man in the Iron Mask. I can't go without also adding Jules Verne science faction writer Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in Eighty Days. Of course, these books have been adapted to film and are timeless classics.

Belleville? It's north and south Africa, unfortunately.. I feel for these people, but far too many migrants...compared to what is offered to them and what they want to do...except.bringing their families, making 5, 6 kids and living on social help ...or another kind of migrant is the one living comfortable from drug traffic... It s situated in the 20th district, used to be very popular, full of life, with its china town and northafrican integrated population, but changed alot these last years. Anyway it's not the worst...

One thing that I have learned about Paris is that many will not speak English unless they see you trying to speak French. I am Canadian and irt is the exact same thing in Quebec City. I see it on every single visit. Luckily I speak and comprehend enough French, but I had friends from Germany travel to Quebec and I watched people who claimed to not speak English, all of a sudden speak English to the German tourists because they could only speak German and English, no French. However, if you are English and just ask them if they speak English they get their backs up

French lost North America including Canada to the British so there is resentment among French Canadians towards English language still 260 years later. France hasn't lost anything they figured they owned to Germany.

I'm an English speaking only Canadian and I've also been treated with contempt in Quebec and Paris. It was bad in the 1970s, now they're making English illegal in business in Quebec. I must say I was there 4 years ago and was treated quite well.

Hello Gabriel Paris is indeed an awesome city, I used to live there for a whole year. I really liked coming to the bistros because of the delicious food and drinks but also because of the open and friendly people who made my time in Paris a really nice experience. It is of course understandable that during the terrorist threats they built fences around the Eifel tower, during my visit that wasn't there yet. Here in Maastricht it is raining at the moment. It seems terrible to me to make fun and educational videos about a city like Paris with this weather. Hopefully it stays dry and we can watch more nice videos of you. Good luck!

Hey Gabriel, always love watching any video that is done in Paris. My last trip there I almost died, yes literally. Had I not gotten the problem taken care of I would have been dead in two days. At least that was what the Doctor told me. After 7 days in the Hospital I had 5 days to stay in Paris so I did the tourist thing and bought a ticket on a tourist bus. You pay once and for 3 days you can take 5 different busses as many times as you want to. I rode around for 3 days and really enjoyed it and got to see some places I had not seen before. I was going to go up the Eiffel tower but the lines were so long that it took most of the day to just get a ticket to go into the tower the next day at a set time and if I understood it right you can only stay for so long. I do wish for the d day where you could go up and stay as long as you wanted to.

I'm Asian American and find Parisians to be rude, but I expect that being it is a bustling city like New York and people are always in a rush. If you go to the South of France, everyone is more laid back and very nice. I even had locals asking if I wanted them to take my pic, chatted with them about the best restaurants and patisseries etc. They are much friendlier in the Cote d'Azur.

Before the pandemic Paris was experiencing Chinese tourism on a truly massive scale; perhaps that has led to some hostility to all people of Asian descent. My partner is Asian American and, in many less-urban parts of the UK, people often assume she doesn't speak English, asking me, "And what will she have?" It gets frustrating.

@@goostrey4210 Well the UK barely has any East Asians though even in London, so I think many Brits just assume they are straight from Asia. America has 23 million Asians with some families that have been there for centuries so it's more normal to White people here, even in rural areas. If your partner was South Asian, they would probably assume they speak English since they're more used to seeing them there.

You said it "monumental buildings everywhere you go". The vastness is overwhelming. Clean city also. There were many people camping on the street in Paris maybe they got rid of them. How did they bury all the hydro lines? Hope you find love soon, you've been alone too long Gabe.

Heyy, yeah the architecture is definitely something in Paris ! But I went several times, and as a French guy I can say Paris isn't clean at all unfortunately.. I went to London, Toronto, Madrid and Roma and honestly, Paris is the worst for me in terms of smell and everything x) The metro is particularly dirty and smelly. Nice city though but not my favourite in France :/

@@markmillward9733 Yeah actually the problem is really concentrated in living areas like narrow streets, the suburbs and most importantly the side of the "périphérique" wich is kind of an highway going around Paris. Overall when I stayed in Toronto I found the city really clean, even if the chinatown part isn't that good, or the Jane & Finch intersection for example, or even Eglington West where i used to live. But downtown and on the lake shore it's pretty cool according to me ! By the way Toronto is such an amazing city :)

@@DABROWSKIYO you know Toronto. I'm 4 generations here. Was in Paris summer of 1984 and got a room in a little 4 or 5 story walkup in the Latin quarter. The 6 story buildings, don't know when they were built and the bridges make it as Gabriel says a city beyond compare in the world. I haven't been to Spain maybe there's a comparable 1 there not as big though.

@@markmillward9733 I'm sure Paris was way better back in these days ! Because of the "Crack crisis" that began in 1990 and still didn't end to that day combined with immigration, the scenery is becoming dull and dirty. Of course this doesn't make the city less interesting to visit, just a bit sketchier. And yeah Spain is kind of similar ! But according to me Italy is even more like France, even in the mentality and culture. Spanish people are more open minded and warm to strangers :)

Unlike other metropolises, Paris is very rich in history and compact in size. The neighborhoods are so walkable. You can walk in a very crowded street and after a few turns you will find yourself completely alone. Also the food is unbeatable especially if you love desserts. In this regard it beats out Tokyo for me. It would definitely help if you are interested in French culture/history. Even a bit would help so much. I used to love London more but now I am a Paris convert.

I studied abroad in Paris back in 2012. I lived in the 11th Arre near Pere Lachaise. I agree that Paris is so much more than simply seeking out certain sites of interest. You can walk around and just happen upon a 13th century church or Delacroix's apartment. That was my favorite part about living there. I also got mugged by the Bastille which allowed me to file a police report for the first time! Haha. Overall, it's a special city, rich in history and delicious food.

I have a friend whose job was teaching English to metro employees. He told me they had to be able to speak English to get a job selling tickets etc. But before I knew this I tried to buy metro tickets and the the woman said she only spoke French. I stumbled through the transaction on my poor, broken French. She gave me my ticket and said, in English - "Your French is okay"! Ha!
