I did the public bus trip from Manali to leh 20 years ago. Probably the most beautiful, tiring bus trip i ever done . Only 4 hours to keylong, stop overnight, left at 4am next day and arrived in leh at 8pm! Only a solo driver the whole 16 hours, he was incredible. I'll never forget the refreshment stations on the salt flats en route.

Tibet was part of Indian civilization and culture since time immemorial. Kailash mountain and Mansarovar lake in Tibet are where Shiva and many other great indian beings stored their knowledge and wisdom in the form of energy. these two are most spiritual places in the world while visiting them people start bursting with tears of ecstasy. though Tibet is a Buddhist place but all the Tibetan deities are Indian Hindu ones with slightly modified names. when I$lamic invaders attacked India and people were persecuted most of the sages went higher up in the Himalayas and Tibet to escape it and meditate in peace. They brought their deities with them.

Do you know Buddhism was started by Buddha as a rebellion and resistance against Hindu religion, rituals and customs and even low caste Hindus adopted Buddhism as a rebellion against Hinduism and you still have the audacity to bundle them as part of Hindus? Do you care what the Buddhists says about your this association of them as part of Hinduism? You don't just like you don't heed to the Sikhs protesting against your continuous association of them as part of Hinduism... disgusting

As for muslims islam spread through the work of innumerable sufis like Shah e Hamdan whose mosque is still found in vicinity of leh city which is said to have been constructed on the land which used to be a sea and was drained miraculous by the great Sufi.. you love to believe your hate Preacher politicians that islam spread only through sword if that was case Chengis khan who was most brutal person in history would have destroy islamic religion but he couldn't the French and European Christians who converted sub Saharan Africa to Christianity couldn't convert north African muslims although they killed millions.why? The truth is force can never ever completely change a people atleast not for long especially in far flung areas like ladakh where no one knows what goes on .. islam spread through the sufis who shrines dot ever nook and corner of Indian cities and towns where more Hindus pay reverence than Muslims.. even your famous god Sai Bagwan in whose name you have built millions of temples is a Muslim Sufi and name hindu also given by Muslims so be grateful not an jealous inferiority complex ridden insecure bakht .

Hi Gabriel, I have a theory about Tibet and why you identify with this culture I believe there's a close relationship with Native Americans and you visited the Southwest many times and you know there is such symbolism regarding depictions and artwork drawings many similarities but different and as you know Native Americans have been described as Asians and as we know Native Americans were already here when the Europeans arrived. The theory is they crossed over the Alaskan bridge when the Continents were closer. Even when Columbus arrived in the Caribbean, he called them Indians thinking he arrived in Asia there is a connection between these cultures in the distant past.

I was expecting Leh to be a relatively small remote outpost, not the thriving mini-metropolis it appears to be. Especially surprising considering how barren the surrounding area is, with little or no local agriculture? Wondering if you can explain how the local food economy works?
