Hey Gabe, I'm also fascinated and blown away by the Spanish conquest and ability to do what they did - regardless if was deemed good or bad. That's basically the premise of my channel, is showing the Spanish speaking world - 1 video at a time. Before I can travel and return to Latin America (where I learned Spanish in Costa Rica), I'm taking advantage of living in Spain and understanding the origin of all of Latin America and the Spanish language. How did the Monarchy influence Latin America and the rebellion and subsequent independence? Why did the Spanish viceroys fall? How did the catholic language and spanish politics influence it? How did the Spanish language change the world? Its absolutely incredible and will take a lifetime to study let alone understand fully.

If you are going to talk about la conquista I advice to read more. They did not “somehow” manage to take over. It is very interesting how they forged alliances with the enemies of the Aztecs in order to conquer Mexico. Diseases also played a major role. Even religion, as native Mexicans followed very strict rules when fighting wars that put them in disadvantage.

Beautiful city. I visited Morelia 20 years ago, along with Pátzcuaro and Oaxaca, my three favorite Mexican cities, so far. I also visited Janitzio Island. I also love the architecture of Hispanic America, its parks and plazas and buildings that were meant to last for centuries. They are also places where people meet and socialize and that helps your mood a lot. Mexican cities in particular have great architecture, since they were built during the Viceroyalty of New Spain. That is what the country that later become known as Mexico was called then. A very rich and large territory at the time.

I'm glad that someone complimented the spanish colonial architecture. despite all the atrocities afflicted upon the native populatian in central and south america, the spanish have at least built some amazing structures that stood the test of time whereas the brits were building primarily what seemed like temporary buildings in the new world
@lbs77743 жыл бұрын
Most Spanish that came actually intermarried the native people and formed big mixed families that are now 90% of the population. So no big atrocities committed in a general way. Of course in lots of cases justice was not the same for everyone, but it's not like British and American atrocities where they killed or displaced the natives.

Morelia is a beautiful city with lots to recommend it. I was amazed when I read your caption that it had a population of 850,000. While I am sad that you are leaving Mexico, I was happy to hear you say you would be going back. It is my favorite country of all that you have traveled to. I've only been to the border town of Nogales when I was stationed at Edwards AFB and it was kind of shabby as I remember it. Most of my friends at the base traveled to Tijuana because it had a naughty reputation. When they talked about it, they always added the letter "a" and pronounced it as "Tiajuana" but as I learned many years later, it's Tijuana which has become a major border city I'm told. I have had both of my Pfizer shots and, like you, I had no side effects except for a sore arm for about 36 hours. Hope your next trip is as good as this Mexico trip. Thanks.

Given the sheer numbers of churches, cathedrals, & cities they built, it's mind-boggling to imagine the numbers of architects, artisans, builders, etc that would have to come over from Spain to accomplish this.

Welcome to my city! Love Morelia so much! But we must also remember that not only did the Spanish leave such beautiful architecture but every single part of our culture has a Spanish component to it and most of us in Mexico have Spanish blood too soother partial or full! Those Spanish conquistadores stayed in Mexico and LA and helped form the region. Without the Spanish we wouldn’t have Mexico as we know it today or any Spanish speaking country in the Americas. And the Spanish migration to Mexico and the Americas AFTER independence helped the country grow with new ideas bedsides migration from other European countries like France, Germany, Ireland,, UK, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy (where my family migrated from to work in the mines of Michoacán) etc...and Asia both west (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine,...) and east (China, Japan, Korea,...) and other parts of the world! We are a beautiful mix of cultures, races and religions in the region! Many of us see that as a great thing to improve upon, the sacrifices of our ancestors while others are vocal about their victim hood! It’s a really interesting history south of the border! Which by the way...if you want to see some of that diversity I highly recommend you go to Puebla where you will find beautiful Puebla surrounded by indigenous towns and even a town founded by northern Italian immigrants who preserved their dialect of Veneto in the town of Chipilo like 20 minutes from Puebla city! And that’s not the only example of this! Cheers and hope you come back to Mexico! :) safe travels! Buen viaje!
