Its noisy, dirty, chaotic, overcrowded and energetic. Napoli is a city you'll either love or hate. i personally love it, its italy on steroids, everything turned up to 100%. A city of extremes. anybody who loves italy should visit at least once. some of the best pizzaria's / restaurants with great food at super prices, none of which you"ll find on trip advisor, all tucked away down the back streets. A city that rewards the more adventurous traveller. love it or hate it, its a city you won't forget in a hurry

You're so true. Napoli is the real italy that a tourist would like to see. The clichés that in Italy in real doesn't exist or only in a different way, are in Naples real. It is a city with contrasts and that makes it beautiful. The energy is awsome.

Man, I'm sure they've told you by now, but you've basically missed all the touristic stops of the city. And Napoli has such an iconic seafront, how could you miss that? hahaha Hope you can come back to experience it all.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
I was looking for the seafront, where I ended up by the ferry boats there, but I couldn't see in which direction it got nicer from there. Then I asked a guy about the best place to go, but he didn't speak any English, and he pointed back away from the water. I only had a day in Naples and just wanted to wander randomly, so it all worked out fine, enjoyed the wandering. Interesting city for sure.

Gabriel, Naples is where that most honored poet,giacomo leopardi, found peace for his heart and mind. He was unhappy during his life, exquisite poems reflect his internal turmoil. A nobleman himself but not at ease in the aristocratic world; the air, the sounds, and the beauty of the gulf of Naples gave him the happiness he was seeking all his. There He wrote ' La Ginestra' a most beautiful poem. I myself was taken by this city on my way to America when an adolescent. We arrived at the run down pensione in the middle of the night. Early in the morning I was awakened by joyful noise. I opened the window and all of a sudden was invested by singing voices of the vegetable vendors of the marked below (the first scene you started the video with, the one with round towers and the arch in dark gray stone) it was love at first sight. That moment is etched in my mind and heart and it was 60 years ago. I and my family left Italy with that emotion and never left me. Naples with all her fault is a magical city that enchants everyone that visits her since ancient times.

Not what I expected of Naples. I would not call this a pretty city but I love the layered history of the buildings. Surprised to see it is gritty and urban. Lots of different textures to look at. I hope to go some day to see it myself.

Looks like Naples is a city of two halves, just like most major cities really. The churches are breathtaking as is the architecture and the markets look interesting with many characters wandering about and decent fresh produce to buy. Last weekend I was in the Midlands so decided to stay over in Birmingham as I'd never been before. Birmingham was the same, loads of run down buildings, trash and general signs of hardship. But then right next to these areas where stunning new buildings, massive malls, beautiful old architecture and many museums and galleries. And there was something special about that kind of mash-up, it was edgy, cool and vibrant.

Naples is 2500 years old not 4000 as you affirmed in the beginning if the video. Parigina a.k.a. "parisienne" is one of dozens pizza types we made in Naples. It is not served at table, but rather sold as street food, and cooked in oven in big rectangular baking tins and also cut in rectangular pieces that make a single portion. It was made of two layers of dough with tomato sauce, a layer of mozzarella cheese and a layer of cooked ham. Its surface is usually crispy and that makes it different from soft neapolitan pizza. 6:40 You were in Old Market Square, a place that hosted the ancient market of Naples since 1270, and where public executions took place. There the people gained and started the Masaniello riot in 1630 ca. The modern building you saw is called "the monster" as it was a product of speculation of '50s. Official name is palazzo Ottieri, and its disgusting mole closed the square view to the sea... Lasting from 1958, during its 60 years if history (next year it will mark 60) it was added by any sort if junk such as balconies completely transformed in rooms, and it was painted in various colors depending of the landlords of various parts it belongs to. It is a very "hit punch in the eye" and I hope sooner or later municipality will acquire it, and demolish it. It is very strange you passed the square but I saw no images of the Chiesa of Carmine that was right at your back, and that contains beautiful paintings and statues and historical tombs. Also you passed under the St. Eligio Maggiore clock stopped at hour it was bombed in 1944, and ignored completely the church that it belongs that it is one of the last pure gothic style churches in Naples. The "industrial" zone that prevented you from seeing the sea were the historical warehouses of the port. Some were restored and still in use nowadays. Sure you are curious but very distracted blogger.
@raffaeleirlanda69667 жыл бұрын
EDIT I checked about the XVI century clock of Sant'Eligio Maggiore and it was not stopped the day the Church was bombed, but the hour a ship full of ammunitions exploded in march 28, 1943 with great loss of life and a shrapnel hit directly the clock, stopping its mechanism. It should had been restored in 1997, but ut seems they stopped it again.

According to Wikipedia it was inhabited by the Greeks in the 2nd millennium BC, as I said: "Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Bronze Age Greek settlements were established in the Naples area in the second millennium BC.[5]" I guess it depends on when exactly you consider it to be "Naples", but anyway people have lived in the area for a heck of a long time. Very interesting fact about the clock!
@raffaeleirlanda69667 жыл бұрын
Not to open a quarrel with you, but Wikipedia is not the best reference ever. it is hand made encyclopedia made by common people and its process of continuous editing is necessary right to avoid errors like these, as long as in 2000 bC Greeks and precisely Ionians and Aeolians began the colonization of Greece itself, so 400 years ago they could not found Naples in any way. Naples was founded by inhabitants of the nearby city of Cumae, in VIII sec bC. reltively close to classic Greek and Roman age. Cumae itself was founded around 740 bC. Just to give you some references wars with persians in Greece dated around 500bC. Alexander the great was alive about in 333 or so bC. If you want to consider the first human settlements then the site in which Naples is nowadays it was known since prehistoric age, ad precisely there were find of crockery that testimony site was inhabitated since neolithic age, so then far before bronze age dated 4000 years ago... But please, sure you could not count any fringed huts and cabs made of stones and straw (that could be just temporary refuges of neolithic sheperds) as an organized city with a precise design of streets and insulae blocks as it was the first Naples. Naples was built upon a project of colonization and expansion realized by settlers of Cumae.

VERY interesting information that was shared, with the exception of the criticism of you being uninformed. You stated it was a stop over. You are already informed and show great historical interest in your videos. More so than anyone else I have ever watched. How much can you possibility learn about a city with only a quick stop? ESPECIALLY one like Naples? You'd need significant time to learn about every thing in order to film "it all" with the pertinent facts. I agree with many of your followers who made comments. Hotels in Italy are divided in first, second and third category, the lower is the third. Any of them could be awarded with stars. Lower categories than third are Pensions and Room Renters. Bed and Breakfast and youth hostels are a category apart. I believed you were in a youth hostel but it was not an hostel. Your place was not more than a room renter as it featured common bathroom in the hall, and in the zone it was located it was sure used as love hotel or worst. Sure you are used to sleep in very strange and poor places to be satisfied with your room, but for 35 dollars at night it was a robbery. You had to spend nothing more than 25 dollars in that place. For 35 dollars at night you had found more clean and better served Bed & Breakfast places here in Naples.

SHAME! This video does NOT do justice to Naples. You missed all the tourist attractions. Your hotel was in one of the shittiest parts of town where all the illegal immigrants live. Such a shame. Sure, Naples has many problems, but it is an amazing city full of art, culture and things to see and do. You would need at least 4-5 full days to get a decent idea of the city (more days if you wish to visit world-renowned places such as Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Mount Vesuvius, Caserta Royal Palace which are near Naples). If you want to come to Naples, please do a quick research on what to see and where to eat and stay. As a general rule in Italy, avoid areas near central train stations. Sorry Gabriel, I enjoy your videos a lot, but this one is a big disappointment.

Nell'altro video ignorava la Galleria Vittorio Emanuele che è uno supendo esempio di stile liberty e non sapeva che il Museo Archeologico fosse un museo, lo chiavava "important building". @GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Oh that's what she said, haha. Yeah I wonder why she said that, especially if she's Italian.
@Andy95pirate7 жыл бұрын
Freedom8530 no, she say Italia brutto, wich is grammaticaly incorrect but maybe she sayied like that in order to make it more easy to understand for a non-italian
@Andy95pirate7 жыл бұрын
Freedom8530 l'Italia è brutta, or è brutta l'Italia. (in Italian) L'Italia è na sfaccimma (in Neapolitan)

He was walking around the Naples center train station :-) It's ridiculous, you mortified my city. It will the same thing if I'll go tomorrow to NY and I'll just walk up only in the Bronx .... and then I'll tell people on the web that this is NY City. :-) Stupid, you're spending money on the worst way ... stay at home and save your money and our culture.

+LespaulNa I agree with you. You're sure that he and his camera did not come alive in the Bronx. Is true
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
I walked many kilometers in the course of making this video and covered lots of different areas of the city. I'm sure as a local you would know the best places to go, but it's simply not true that I only walked around the train station.
@LespaulNa7 жыл бұрын
Sorry but i know my city better than you .... do you agree with me? If you wanna i'll show you on a map the area where you were walkin '. Your low cost hotel was in the area of central station, ... and you did not use any bus during the video. So why does a man go to town to show usual things as in any other city in the world? Are you able to explain to me this fact? Sorry but I think that's really stupid if you're spending your money in this way. You visit Naples but you did not see anything about the city. For example the great building if you showed in your first video about Naples is an important Italian National Museum where you could have seen in it Greek, Egyptian, Romans archeological finds, statues, and much more and many more building and monuments built during spanish and french domination that we have in Naples. Sorry but if you want to travel in a city and show it to other people how rich and beautiful and simply and normal is that place, i think that you have to study more history, urbanistic, art, and much more about that place before you visit. Sorry but this video offends Italy and Naples and with ignorance our culture ... your, and our intelligence. If you'll come back to Naples, contact a neapolitan who will show all that you have lost in this visit, and he shows to you how fun is the city and people that live in it. Ciao.

I had just one day in Naples and made the most of it by walking around exploring, seeing whatever I might see. This is often how I make videos of different places. I don't only show people the most famous tourist sights. I show some notable monuments and famous spots but also just walk around randomly in neighborhoods that seem interesting and show what normal life is like. As I said, I walked for hours in the course of making this video and showed lots of different sights and neighborhoods. Perhaps you should make a video tour of the city yourself and show the best parts as a local? No point in getting upset about my video because I didn't show the things that you think should be included. Take matters into your own hands and show people what your city is really like from your point of view. Anyone with a camera can make a video and post it to youtube. Probably it would be a fun experience.

LesPaulNa will you make a video from your angle? I would love that allot, I am interested in visiting Naples one day, fascinated by the beautiful city, but it is so hard to find videos walking the streets of the normal city

Come on, you may be a globe trotter but not really a "traveller". This is just about a living organism moving thru a given environment. I hope that people does not assume that travelling is just walking and presuming. Of course Naples is nearly impossible to digest even in many lifetimes and after thousand of years, yes, now it is in absolute decay. So I just saw a living organism moving randomly thru a decaying environment. Of course nothing against random walks but it is not appropriate to share globally such personal and visual pieces of information (I mean you walking) while eating pizza which are not pizza, hotels which are brothels and then... you lost me on Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele. You said Vittorio EmanVele... That's a barely simple latin U, the same of your english W, double U (originally written as V) ... And then, just to make clear that I am Italian, you don't care about bidet... The highest pinnacle of italian cultures, and I m not joking :) If you don't know, care (no matter how many times you shower) or do not feel the urge for a bidet, destiny will never offer you the chance to eat a real pizza or enjoying one as an Italian would! I don't want to be rude, so back on track now: travel randomly as you wish but pls do not spread general ignorance and random information/perceptions. My advise is, do your unedited videos but please do not speak it over improvising touristic guidance. Just say, it's hot, what a smell, what a chick or whatever passes the mind of a living organism moving thru that environment. For real info we have tons of books to go to. With friendship, this is a real advice!
