That is an awesome quilt. My Nana never made any quilts, but she did make several generations of wedding dresses for our family. The memories that talking about her brings to me are wonderful.

Love the lay out..all who cook need a reverse lay out. Your idea of the hob and wall oven is spot on. Hope to see that soon. The kitchen as far as I am concerned is the heart of any home. And yes a good Refridg is important. If you had room for a paying guest you could make enough money in a couple of weeks to do a good share of the things you want to do. If I weren't on 02 I would jump on the chance to spend a couple of weeks on a narrow boat...to photograph , sketch and watercolor. Ps. I used to travel very light. I remember what a couple of us paid for a rental house in Ireland a couple of years ago....anyway I am jealous of your journey thru life on your narrowboat.

Hi guys...I've only just found your channel and I'm binge watching to catch up :) I wasn't going to comment until I'd caught up in case I ended up asking questions you'd answered in later videos, but, I thought I'd ask Ryan if he'd ever cooked on an induction hob? I've cooked on induction at home since 1994. When I had my kitchen re-done back then, hardly anyone knew about induction, but I love it. It is as controllable as gas (in my opinion slightly better as, if you're trying to simmer something on gas, you still get hot spots on the pan where the gas hits). It also so much easier to just wipe the ceramic hob down when you're finished.
@NarrowboatChef5 жыл бұрын
Yes, he has and he also agrees with everything you’ve said! Induction hobs are very nice to cook with 😊

A boat with a Galley Kitchen... which is a layout taken from boats. Heck, you could say you have a Correct Kitchen layout in your boat. Although, I do like the center aisle to get thru to the rest of the boat. An option is to cut a design to inset a different carpet to appear as artistic intent, not a patch job of carpet damage

Interesting vlog - I've put the deposit down on a sailaway narrowboat where I'm also having a walk through bathroom fitted. The layout I have in mind is almost the same as yours but with one difference in the bedroom - I'm happy with a 4 foot double (I don't like cross beds) but on your boat it looks like a 4 foot 6 inch conventional double would fit - could you squeeze one in or isn't the gap wide enough ?
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, very exciting to hear you’ve put down a deposit! You probably could get a 4ft 6 inch bed in with enough of a gap left to get past. The original bed on ours was 4ft wide and had decent room to walk past, so an extra 6 inches would make the gap smaller and you might have to walk past while doing a side-shuffle! I suppose it would depend on how often you wanted to walk past it and whether you wanted more sleeping room or more walking room! 😊
@llessibm6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’m quite good at the sideways shuffle or at least I’ll be getting plenty of practice
@garyabc6 жыл бұрын
I'm in the US and have never actually seen a narrowboat in the wild, nevermind being aboard one. But I'm very interested in narrowboats and have seen a lot of KZbin videos. Enjoyed yours very much! I'm curious. Why a walk through bathroom? It seems to me that this would not be convenient when you have guests or visitors. I see that the walk through is fairly popular. What is the advantage?
@llessibm6 жыл бұрын
garyabc - for me, and this is only my personal preference, the walk through bathroom only works if you have the bedroom up the front (aka reverse layout) this means that you and your guests do all the living at the stern end with access to one side of the bathroom and then at night you would both have unobstructed access from both sides - during the day if the bathroom was in use then access to the bow can still be achieved via the gunwales or roof or towpath - the big advantage of the walk through is the additional space it gives but with the boat effectively being divided in two then heating of the bedroom might be an issue especially if you rely solely on a log burner type stove in the saloon
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
garyabc @Martin Bissell explained it very well - as the front of the boat contains only our bedroom, we wouldn’t have guests in that area anyway, so there is essentially no traffic through the bathroom. If we change ours to a walk-through, we will get a little extra space in a bathroom that is quite tiny at the moment - very tricky when drying off after a shower! 😊

Nice layout, looking forward for more vids, be well

My wife and i lived on a 32 foot sailboat for 13 years, so we can relate. You will appreciate the white walls when you're done. Varnished wood is just too dark. Making the bathroom full width is a good idea. A corridor is just wasted space. There are what looks like 2 white radiators down low. One beside your bed. What is the story with them? Do you have a holding tank for black water? Is the engine noise bothersome when you are down below? If you replace the fridge, look into a top loading one. 12V top loading marine fridges are very efficient today. With a front door, you spill the cold air every time you open the door.
@NarrowboatChef5 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are a few radiators in the boat, central heating, but we don’t use them (mainly because the heating mechanism is broken right now!). Our toilet is a cassette style, so no holding tank for that. Well, I suppose the cassettes are kind of holding tanks! Our engine is a pretty quiet one and doesn’t bother us if we have it running while we are inside. Thanks for the tip about the fridge, we will look into it 😊

Hi your boat is lovely! Like you I want to make lots of changes to mine, still debating whether or not to paint the walls & was wondering what kind of paint did you use on your test wall?
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherri, we picked up a test pot of paint called Dairy Belle. We got the bathroom and kitchen version of the paint as we figured it would be more resistant to the potentially damp conditions, however we want a paint that is glossy rather than matte finish as we think it will reflect more light and help brighten the boat a lot more.

Well first off - is it even possible to ‘finish’ Skyrim??? Every time I start a new game, I discover a new quest or a new person or a previously undiscovered location! 😂😂 We’ve been in England for 4 years now and we came over as we both love Europe and the UK so we decided that 30+ hours of flying just for a couple weeks holiday every now and then wasn’t enough! We decided to move over here so that we could really experience and explore the countries.

Nice tour thank you, are you finding living on a boat more relaxing than being on land?
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
In some ways yes... I think we will find it much more relaxing now that we are no longer working in location-based jobs that require driving. It was a bit stressful making sure we were moving in accordance with our cruising licence as well as finding a mooring spot along the canal that had car access. We would have moored in a marina but there were none close by with availability. Also, it’s nice not to be renting and knowing that this boat is our home and we can put our own mark on it!

Hi Guys, great narrowboat tour. I have a question about gaming on board. I am hopefully moving on board a boat in the near future and enjoy the occasional game. Do you manage to play any online games whilst on the move or is your gaming restricted to offline games? I can live with having to play offline but would love to be able to fly my Elite Dangerous ships whilst afloat. What is your gaming setup? Also, does streaming shows on netflix etc. Use up a lot of mobile broadband data? Thanks once again for your tour and also your cooking videos, I enjoy them immensely.
@NarrowboatChef6 жыл бұрын
Hey, exciting to hear you might be moving aboard soon! We have no problems playing online games - we have gaming laptops and a wifi unit that has 200gb per month download. Most of the games that we play are online ones and watching Netflix doesn’t actually eat into our available data that much. It’s certainly easier while we are moored up in a marina over winter (due to power reasons) however we can easily play while the engine is running if we are out cruising without draining the boat batteries.
