I can't even begin to tell you just how much I enjoyed this home tour. I don't quite have a home of my own just yet to decorate, but when I do, I'm certain that I'll be returning to this video for inspiration. I've become disillusioned by all the current home trends and fell into a rut of trying to envisioning my future style and after watching this I now remember just who I am. This home brought a forgotten warmth and nostalgia from visits to my grandmothers house when I was younger and I'm so thrilled to have discovered it. Being unique to who we are as individuals is so much more important to our comfort and well-being than trying to keep up with the status quo of what everyone else is doing. So thanks so much for this.

Their beautiful home is not just designed, it is an expression of this woman and her family. Their home is lived in, but not cluttered, it is orderly and meaningful. The design is easy and light, doesn’t scream in your face like many other designers’ homes. If I ever needed help to decorate my home this is the door I would knock on.

Love this. Her home looks like they've always lived there, nothing's been bought, just found and collected, and they have interesting lives way beyond interior design. She gives some great tips - your home should look evolved rather than planned; go to designers' homes and if something works for you, just copy it. Not all designers are this articulate and can explain their method so clearly. 'Good jacket' versus 'prep school trousers' corduroy - everyone in England can understand instantly what that means. It looks so welcoming and comfortable, if you're lucky enough to be a guest you just know you're going to have a great time.

''Good jacket' versus 'prep school trousers' corduroy - everyone in England can understand instantly what that means.'' _Everyone everywhere (in the Western World at least) can understand instantly what that means. Corduroy jackets and trousers (prep school or otherwise) are not just an English thing you know?! We have all grown up on them, and specially the ones of us growing up in the late 80s and early 90s. Just fyi.

I cannot get enough of these, of this collection of people's lives as seen through their houses and the things they love. House & Garden does this so brilliantly (no one else does it quite so well). I find myself searching for a new one daily (I crave them as one craves comfort food). I'm astonished by how nourishing they are. I suddenly don't feel hopeless. Each time I watch one, I'm overcome with a sense of belonging in the world. THIS world. Meditation doesn't work for me. But THESE do.Thank you.
@margaretmoore39153 жыл бұрын
This was exactly the kind of video I was hoping to find! I love hearing the reasoning behind the design. I also love that Rita explains her philosophical snippets of decorating for comfort, and 'real life' as she goes along. I love how she's collected linens over time, so as not to have things that are too "ordinary". I, too, collect linens and other textiles for possible future uses. At times I think I am a bit nutty for keeping the things that I love, but don't presently have an ideal place for, but she makes me feel justified. And the idea that our grown children need to see the familiar things from their childhood really struck a chord. SO MANY things resonated with me, making this video an absolute treasure!

I love that cocoon feeling she talked about. When I draw all my working curtain panels at nigh in our master bedroom t a hush just falls over the room like the sound on a snowy night. I love it. I am sure fabric on the walls keeps the room in that quiet hush. Whenever I see rooms with no curtains I shudder thinking how cold, black and dark it must look at night. When you walk past a blank window like that a shiver goes through your soul. I can't imagine living without some kind of window treatment I can close. In our current house we have 3 floor to ceiling windows that overlook the mountains, and the prior owner didn't cover them and everyone argued with me about dressing them which I did with both solar shades and fabric panels. The first night the window treatments were installed my husband said he couldn't believe how different the room felt and that I was right.

Her practical approach to seating arrangements and the importance of things feeling "personal" ensures that you will have a cozy, collected, and evolved feeling at home without trying too hard.
