Honestly, after working in an utterly dysfunctional cafe and kitchen for a year, hearing how meticulously run this laundry is makes me yearn for a job with such competent management. If you notice, nothing she described was difficult. Everything made sense, there was a logical progression of tasks. Sure you need to develop some elbow grease, but learning the basics of stain treatment and remembering to number and date laundry parcels? Only the laziest person would find that undoable. I would give anything for a job like this 😭

Most people back in those days slept quite early though, unlike us in the modern era. Back then, lighting at night meant quite the cost in terms of resources - candles, oil lamps, and gas lamps all costed money, and weren't the best at keeping things well lit anyways. So it was common for people to sleep early after the sun has set and wake up at the crack of dawn.
