if you're worried about pricing, i think prints would be a wonderful idea! you could sell prints of your art for cheaper prices, and then the originals for the ones that feel right to you. and never forget that time you put into paintings is worth a lot, so don't feel bad about charging more for them!

Really like your paintings. Prints would be a great idea so you could sell to more fans who like your work. You could do a raffle for Patreon viewers during a stream for one of the original canvases.

*for your paint palette* something I found helpful was covering it in saran/plastic wrap. easy clean up 😊
@rayisbigbad
@rayisbigbad Жыл бұрын
but isn't that also a waste of plastic? i don't want to be mean, i really am just interested bc it's the first time i'm hearing of this idea, so i would love to learn more about this method
@kirkthebrat
@kirkthebrat Жыл бұрын
@@rayisbigbad no worries! I guess it really depends how big of an area you're covering with it, how often you would be changing it out, etc. We used this method in my high school painting class and I still find it useful now. BUT I also don't paint as often as I assume John does lol

for the paint palette i suggest a piece of glass from a picture frame, they can last for a long time and are super great for cleaning (with a glass scraper) and reusing. for acrylic paint, water on top of dried acrylic helps make it not so brittle and dry for clean up. btw i love your style so much

0:57 when i mix paint i use plastic coverings on stuff. if i have a canvas that still has plastic on it, i'll use that until it's covered on both sides and then i'll throw the covering away. if i have an old ziploc bag i can use for something, i'll stick a canvas or something sturdy in it and zip it up, use both sides, and then throw the ziplock away. i'll do the same with grocery sacks. if i have a sheet of plastic wrap from smthn, i'll tape it to an object that's sturdy (or like a palette). i try not to go out of my way to buy plastic stuff because i want to do my part in avoiding waste, but this is stuff i have laying around anyways so i feel like i might as well make a use out of it. recently another thing i've used for mixing water color paints is a birth control container i have. easy enough to spray down or put in the sink to clean & if it's extremely dirty at the end of the month for some reason, i'll have a replacement ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think an interesting thing to do if you continue to use canvases as palettes is to cut them up after they've dried and glue them onto other paintings to add a 3 dimensional texture to them

If you don't like cleaning your paint mixing surface, use one of those office tear-off calendars. Go from the back to the front if you're worried about ink getting into paint. And if water keeps soaking through one page, just put a piece of thick fabric under it. If you insist on mixing on canvas, tape a piece over a large plastic cutting board, then soak and rinse it before washing it together with laundry.

Idk wtf they're called, but you can get these thin film sticky things that you can put on your pallette, and so when you're done painting, you can rip the sticky film off the pallette and throw it away. Boom, clean pallette no cleaning needed.
