There has not been a video you have done where I have failed to learn new things and see things in a different way including the very area I happen to live in (Indianapolis metro). Excellent narration and video both ground and drone.

Funny: I remember talking about Nicodemus in a Bible study class years back. Nothing beats a good small to medium town.....

One of my late dad's cousins lives in Parsons, KS. I remember going through Kansas with my family 23 years ago on a baseball-themed bus trip, and I couldn't believe how desolate-looking the state was outside of KC and Topeka.

My late grandfather grew up on a farm in Graham County near Bogue. He told me about Nicodemus. He spoke of the people favorably. A railroad line might have increased vitality for a little while, but today there’s a lot of KS towns on the rail lines that are just as desolate. Interstate highways didn’t help. Nevertheless, Nicodemus should be preserved.

I'm surprised you filmed a town, as small as Nicodemus. But this made for an interesting video! I wonder if in the future, you might film more places in Kansas like Salina, Manhattan, Lindsborg, and some others? I bet Hays would make for an interesting video, too. And it's interesting this town was settled by blacks. In Illinois not far from Kankakee, Hopkins Park and Pembroke Township was settled by blacks as a farming area. I remember reading that town was slow to take off, due to the fact electrical lines and plumbing lines were slow to be laid towards this town for many years.

Nicodemus probably has several times 14 people, just from the number of homes that appear to be occupied. New privacy protection techniques using micro area data scrambling employed by the census mean that info towns with less then a few hundred people is unreliable, and is almost meaningless for a town as small as Nicodemus.

LOL Yep Kansas is small. ND is smaller population wise. About 760,000 I lived there for years. More cows or Buffalo than people there. You cow tipper you 🙂This place even looks like eastern ND. Windy, flat, cold and unpopulated. Pretty cool history though. Never heard of it before this video.

Data for towns with less then a few hundred people is now unreliable due to new privacy measures employed for census 2020, and judging just by the number of what appears to be occupied homes, I would say there are probably 50 people or more in Nicodemus.

Actually micro area data scrambling employed for privacy purposes in census 2020 means data for towns under a few hundred people is unreliable. There are probably at least several times more people then 14 in Nicodemus today.

Folks probably don't know that there is an entire nation founded by freed slaves. The country is Liberia of which the Capitol is Monrovia.
@williamperkins9125
@williamperkins9125 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a little more murky than that. It was founded by a society run by white Americans for the purpose of relocating freed slaves out of the United States due to concerns that they would never acclimate to society.
@bobwallace9814
@bobwallace9814 2 жыл бұрын
@@williamperkins9125 That was the prevailing attitude across America at the time. Lincoln's original plan was to relocate all to Central America and even Africa but his friend Frederick Douglass talked him out of it by reassuring that they would assimilate well. But back to Liberia. How far has that country advanced over the last 150 years? Would you take the family for a vacation to Monrovia?

Your Michigan videos usually discuss people leaving areas due to racial differences. This shows a area where the town was populated by African Americans. Nice twist.

I am from KC Metro area. I have driven past. here once but I had to keep going. I might consider going back to look at it. I been to several smaller towns in Western Kansas. However Fort Dodge is ones of the smallest I was inside of. Fort Dodge is a smaller retirement community for soldiers just 10 miles east of Dodge City.
